Caught Up in You

“I’m so caught up in you, little girl
And I never did suspect a thing
So caught up in you, little girl
That I never want to get myself free
And baby it’s true
You’re the one
Who caught me baby, you taught me
How good it could be”

I love that song by 38 Special. I heard it in the gym first thing this morning and it set my day off on the right foot! There’s something about amazing ’80s music that just does it for me. :D

Sometimes I think I belong in the ’80s…

'80s Night!

Workout

With “Caught Up in You” jammin’ in my head, I danced my way into BodyPump this morning for a total-body strength training workout.

I felt like my mind was racing a mile a minute throughout the class. I found myself thinking about everything but BodyPump. By the time we were laying on our mats to do some ab work, signaling the end of the class, I was shocked at how fast the class flew by!

Post Pump, I leashed up Sadie for a 40-minute walk around the lake near my apartment. I don’t want to jinx it, but the weather in Florida lately has been wonderful! It’s remained in the ’80s and hasn’t creeped into the hotter-than-heck ’90s for a few days. Woop, woop!

Breakfast

I prepped my breakfast last night which made it super easy this morning!

Last night I cooked up a small batch of pearled barley and let the whole grain cool down overnight in the fridge.

This morning it was ready to be used in a barley breakfast bowl.

Peach + Barley Yogurt Bowl

To make my barley breakfast bowl, I combined a cup of Greek yogurt with the cold cooked barley and topped it off with peach slices and nutmeg.

Oh Yum

I love the nuttiness and chewy texture barley brings to the table.

Gnarly Barley

As I typed up this post, I looked back through some of my old posts about barley and stumbled upon this one that I posted during my first month of blogging. Holy crap-tastic pictures. Thank goodness I invested in a better camera.

Along with my barley breakfast bowl, I also enjoyed a tumbler full of Barnie’s French vanilla coffee that I snagged for the freezie at my gym.

I practically burned off my tongue after the first sip.

The Heat is On

I like really HOT coffee, so I took my time sippin’ it rather than gulping it to prevent the loss of additional taste buds. I’m so scrappy. ;)

Questions of the Morning

For everyone:

  • What is one of your all-time favorite ’80s songs?

For the bloggers:

  • Do you see a big difference in your blogging now than you did when you first started blogging? What has changed the most?

Oh my goodness I loved Debbie Gibson in the ’80s. She was the epitome of cool.

As for blogging, I think the biggest difference is that now I have readers who I write for vs. writing into the great wide open. Writing a blog when you don’t know if anyone will read it is slightly awkward.

I’ve only been blogging 2 months so … ask me again in a year ;)

Favorite 80′s song: Oh girl .. so many! But I have to admit that I love to sing “Karma Chameleon” in the showe ;)

I think it’s WEIRD barley in the morning, since for me it’s a SOUP staple hehe, I guess I need to try it :)

I really still need to try that barley bowl..I seriously keep thinking about it, but each time I DO in fact remember I don’t have barley in the house. I do have quinoa…maybe I could try that instead..? hmm might be interesting :)
You’re too funny w/ that picture- love it!
I REALLY want a new camera..I’m crossing my fingers for one @ Christmas..I keep dropping hints to the other half :)

I’m jealous of your cooler temps – we’re on day 61 of reaching a high 90 or above. It’s out of control here in NC!!!!!

And I always drink my coffee way too fast because it’s warm – not hot.

I’m jealous of the weather you are having, we have a heat advisory in NC. The heat has been out of control, but I’m traveling to NY tomorrow for 5 days. I hear the temps are 50′s at night, I’m worried I will freeze lol.

My 80′s music is AC/DC. I love rockin out to them :)

And as for blogging, I’ve been posting more regularily and taking pictures more. I do need a new camera though.

I’ve been blogging for almost 2 years now, and I think I just feel less attached to posting something specific – I just love to talk about everything, especially good food and recipes + friends/fam :)

I almost ALWAYS burn my face off with coffee, I just want it so bad I get impatient ;) haha. Your breakfast bowl looks delish, as usual! Enjoy your day!

I went through a real 80′s phase in high school for a bit. Guns n’ Roses were my fav. But I would never outrule Tiffany- “I Think We’re Alone Now” is up there on my list. And so is “Video Killed The Radio Star”. This list could probably go on for a while… ;)

I definitely agree with Tracey re: blogging to the great wide open vs. blogging to readers. My blog is more personal “this is my life/these are my boys/law school (ok, now being a lawyer) sucks/these are my body issues” than fitness oriented so i’ve always been kind of weird about to whom I give the URL (heck, i’d love to talk about my fitness stuff, my body issues, and trying to stay healthy while having dietary restrictions and sports/genetic health issues but it’s not what my friends want to read). While they never comment, I know my friends “stalk” my blog because they reference things I wrote…

I’ve had my blog for 5 years, and the biggest difference i’ve seen is that I was a lot more honest and open 5 years ago. Sad but true. But I love that I can look back at where I was and see how I got from Point A to Point B. And while my blog isn’t really healthy living-oriented (though I’d love to make it be a little more so), I love all of yours and you inspire the holy heck out of me! (And give me ideas).

Woah, sorry to be so long winded…. keep being fabulous and keeping up the good fight, all of you :)

HALL AND OATES: DREAMS COME TRUE! I’m convinced it’s impossible to be sad when listening to that song!

I don’t have a personal blog, but have been helping with a blog for a charity run that I’m doing that runs across Florida. Even in just a few weeks I’ve learned sooo much! I cannot imagine what could be learned in a year or so!

I’d have to say that my favs 80′s song would have to be Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now”. That song was practically the anthem for myself and all the girls who lived on my floor in residence our first year of university. So fun!
My blogging actually just changed up a bit in the last week or so. I had always blogged about random things at random times until a few months ago when I completely lost steam. I have since turned a new leaf and am attempting my own healthy living/foodie blog. Although my schedule make it hard to blog and post pics about every meal, I’ve been having fun talking about my suppers so far! :)

I have never actually tried barley before. This post makes me want to! And I loooove fresh peaches.

I JUST started my food blog and my pictures are only okay. I definitely need to invest in a better camera (when money is better). For now, it will do. Your pictures are awesome. What kind of camera do you have?

Dang your nice weather. It’s been 100+ for two weeks in a row here. It sucks.

I think I have expanded what I write about over the past 6 months. I’m more honest and maybe tell TOO much about myself. I have also found myself talking about money and financial things because it interests me and I get tired JUST talking about food.

So you mean to tell me the Indiana is hotter than FL right now? Crazy. We’re roasting here. : ( The heat index has been 110 the past few days and it’s not supposed to get better any time soon. I hate it! I get so sweaty walking to work everyday. Yuck! And running? Not so fun. Enjoy the “cool” weather while you have it! And I just started blogging so I don’t have any opinion on that question yet! :)

    “Paradise City”- Guns N Roses

Oh good gracious Axl Rose can get me moving any day. Did I mention I named my dog Axell Rose?

Before I named Axell, I searched the Internet high and low for a different spelling of “Axl” so that I could justify naming my female dog the same name as a male rocker. I don’t remember where I ended up finding it, but somewhere in the world “Axell” was considered a female’s name. Wow. (:

FAV 80′s song?! There are so many to choose from but I’m gunna go with “I Think We’re Alone Now” by Tiffany. I can remember singing this at the top of my lungs at summer camp. Can I go back there?? lol

I still pretty fresh at blogging, so i can’t really answer this one! ;0)

I purchased a small amount of barley the other day, because those barley breakfast bowls have been calling to me! i think it will be a good “after track workout” breakfast for manana!

I’ve been blogging for 13 months now and I saw a huge difference in my blogging skills. I use to write paragraphs to where now I try to not write as much and get to the point. My pictures changed too. I found you need natural light minus the flash to get better looking photos! I asked my favorite bloggers for advice and they were so helpful. My next step would be for a DLSR camera… but I have to wait for one of those bad boys!!

The temps in DC (where I am) are way hotter than FL – crazy, right? And, oh, the humidity. My hair is in a losing battle against the forces of nature. :(

My all-time favorite 80s song is Come On Eileen. What a fun, fun song plus there are some great memories attached to it.

I’ve only been blogging for about two months now but I do see a difference in my posts. Now I include more about my daily life (not just eats) and I have included a few recipes. Also my picture have DEFINITELY improved. I’m a bit ashamed of my early food photos, haha.

All time fav 80′s song is “Everybody wants to rule the world” by Tears for Fears LOL! It’s on my favourite 80′s movie “Real Genius” So funny! Came out in like 1985 I believe with Val Kilmer in it, he’s so young it’s weird! lol Its so frustrating when I try to take pictures, I have pretty high quality camera and I can never seem to take very good pictures lol I think I really need to sit down and read how each function works and what not, I’m more of a point and click kind of picture person lol Your breakfast looks delicious!

I’m 7 years older than my next oldest sibling, and I’ve made several 80s/early 90s mix CDs for my sisters when they said they hadn’t heard of so many great songs! :)
