They always seem to say something that resonates with me at the end of the class when I’m chillin’ in savasana.
I headed over to yoga after warming up my legs a bit on the elliptical. I slipped off my shoes and got into the groove of the class very quickly. My body really needed the stretch from today’s class.
Before the class was dismissed, our yoga instructor imparted these wise words on our group:
“Everyday is a new opportunity to make new decisions.”
I think this statement is a powerful one and can give people renewed hope at the beginning of each day.
Maybe you said something hurtful to someone you cared about yesterday. Well, today you get a chance to rectify that situation and be kind and caring.
Maybe you ate 17 cookies yesterday (Hey, I’ve done it). Well, today you can hop back on the healthy living train.
Sometimes it’s easy for us to get caught up in bad decisions or unhealthy choices we make. Rather than beat yourself up over it, take the opportunity to change the situation at hand beginning with each new sunrise.
Go in peace, my friends. 😉
Breakfast
Okay, don’t go just yet!
We still have breakfast to cover!
Today’s meal was a pumpkiny mixture of protein goodness.
Hmm… What to call it?
Pumpkin Protein Cheesecake Bowl!
To make this pumpkin cheesecakey thang, I combined the following using my fantastic new immersion blender (Thanks Aunt Barbara & Uncle Randall!):
- 1/2 c. 1% Friendship no salt added cottage cheese (regular cottage cheese will work too)
- 1/2 c. canned pumpkin
- 2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
- 1 scoop All the Whey cup cake batter protein powder (you can use vanilla protein powder or omit this altogether)
- Splash of milk
- Dash of nutmeg
This mix was deeeelish and protein packed (more than 36 grams!).
This one will be made again soon, I assure you!
I also enjoyed a tumbler full of Barnie’s pumpkin spice coffee from my gym.
Guess what? I matched my tumbler yet again.
This is getting a little ridiculous.
And with that, it’s time to work!
Don’t forget to make this day a day full of new, positive decisions! 😀
Question of the Morning
What is one positive thing about your day today?
I’ll go first: I enjoyed a walk with a super-energetic dog who shows me everyday how happy we should feel to just be alive.
Nic says
I made some rock star biscotti. However, I’m always a little nervous to bring food to work because not everyone’s pallet is the same. But my co-workers tried them and loved them! It always makes me smile to make other people smile! Have a great day!!
Jordan P says
At 2:10pm I will print the boarding pass that will fly me home to my family tomorrow!

Amanda says
My mom is coming to visit which I’m really excited about
Rachel @ The Avid Appetite says
I have to admit, I have not been having a good day. In addition to the terrible weather and delayed trains, I literally put on two different pairs of boots this morning and didn’t realize until I got to my train (how is this possible, you ask? I don’t really have an answer to that…). Anyhow, I’m super thankful for my amazing husband who is sweet, thoughtful, caring and willing to traipse to the train in the rain with one of his wife’s boots under his arm!

I’m making a new recipe! 🙂

I have been trying to lose weight since July, and told myself I would get below 140 before our 1 year anniversary trip to Costa Rica at the beginning of Sept. I gave myself an extra incentive that if I got below 140 and stayed there for a week (I need it to STICK), I could get a massage. I didn’t make it below 140 for our trip, but today I weighed and was 139! I try not to focus on weight, but I actually have felt healthier and slimmer lately and the scale proved it. Hopefully this time next week I’ll be getting a massage! (PS: have been eating your greek yogurt breakfast bowls with peaches and a small amount of cereal and find they keep me much more full than my normal bowl of cereal. So thanks!!)
peanutbutterfingers says
congrats!!!
Katie says
How funny! I ate three large plates of my boyfriends spaghetti bake for dinner last night and wasn’t even full afterwards! Before, I’d have felt guilty, but not last night! So today I started my morning with a refreshing green monster! And I also wore my new turquoise sweater that I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on. 🙂

I usually sleep in on Thursdays, anticipating that I’ll do an extra workout on the weekend, but that never happens so I end up getting in only 4 workouts a week.
Today I decided to haul my butt out of bed get it to spin class. I really enjoyed it and I feel great!
Now I can workout 5 days a week and take the entire weekend off if I want to (or do something more relaxing or fun on one of the days).
Lynn says
Woo Hoo! I’m loving the cottage cheese and pumpkin recipe, thanks for sharing…lol, I have a whole can of pumpkin to finish off.
One positive thing about my d is that my workout is completed for the day!
Melissa Miller says
Thanks for sharing the wisdom, the awesome recipe and your adorable matchy-matchyness.
Never apologize for it…..cheap thrills right?
I always get a secret thrill when I match things so I live vicariously through you sometimes. (0:
I wonder how much protein you get in a day? You seem like the picture of health and I am trying to figure out what I should aim for

i’ve heard anything from 1 gram per lb. of bodyweight to 0.8 grams per pound. i think it varies from person to person. i don’t monitor it closely, but i do try to have protein in every meal. i think i’m much closer to the 0.8 grams/lb. of body weight.

After a four day vacation, I got out of bed right when my alarm went off and did a 1.5 mile run. I’m keeping on track with my Couch to 5K program, and that feels wonderful!

1 positive thing about my day so far today?
Well there’s this little 5 y/o named Jack who had cancer. My fiance and I ran a 10K in May in his honour – the race raised over $1,000,000 all for a camp especially for kids with cancer (the camp is free to the families and also runs in the childrens hospital in Toronto).
Today we got great news. Jack has just been given the clear and he is now cancer free! 🙂 great news!

I’ll turn something negative into something positive. I have a test in my Chemistry class today. Instead of looking at it as a bad thing, I’ll say that I’m lucky to have the chance to go to university and have the chance to get a good education.

A friend got a new job, so I spent the morning baking her granola, granola bars, and my own version of scotcharoos (I used a layer of rice krispie treats, layer of heath bar milk chocolate toffee and a layer of peanut butter). I sampled 2 mini bites and moved on to eat a healthy lunch of tuna =)
