Summer 2011 Workout Playlist
After yesterday’s workout to some fantastic Michael Jackson songs, I remembered just how much music can invigorate a workout. It was high time for me to update my iPod with some new motivational music.
Since many of you weighed in with song suggestions on the PBF Facebook page and Twitter, I thought you might be interested in my latest playlist to get some ideas for a workout playlist of your own.
As always, this playlist has a lot of throwback ‘90s music (my fav!).
Enjoy!
- Snap – Rhythm is a Dancer
- TLC – No Scrubs
- Ram Jam – Black Betty
- Destiny’s Child – No, No, No
- Glee Cast – Teenage Dream
- Michael Jackson – PYT (Pretty Young Thing)
- Pitbull – Give Me Everything (My favorite radio song of this summer!)
- Lauryn Hill – Doo-Wop (That Thing)
- Jagged Edge – Let’s Get Married (Remix)
- Real McCoy – Another Night, Another Dream
- Bell Biv DeVoe – Poison
- Swizz Beats – Everyday (Coolin’)
- Mariah Carey – Honey
- Rob Base & DJ Easy Rock-It – It Takes Two
- DJ Kool – Let me Clear My Throat
Now don’t you just wanna dance!?
Past playlists that have popped up on PBF include:
- Half Marathon Playlist
- Rockin’ Playlist
- Disney Playlist
- ’90s Playlist
- Run, Run, Run Playlist
- Spring 2011 Playlist
Workout
You better believe my new playlist gave me renewed energy as I tackled this morning’s workout. I began my workout with 20 minutes on the elliptical before hopping off to conquer a total-body weights workout that looked like this:
| Exercise | Weights | Reps | Sets |
| Leg press | 130 lbs. | 15 | 3 |
| Incline bicep curls | 15 lbs. | 15 | 3 |
| Side shoulder raises | 10 lbs. | 20 | 3 |
| Tricep dips | Bodyweight | 15 | 3 |
| Deadlifts | 25 lbs. | 15 | 3 |
| Leg extensions | 40 lbs. | 15 | 3 |
| Chest press | 15 lbs. | 15 | 3 |
| Bicep rows | 15 lbs. | 15 | 3 |
| Hamstring ball curls | Bodyweight | 20 | 3 |
| Various crunches | Bodyweight | 30 | 3 |
I was actually pretty proud of myself for doing a chest exercise on my own. I typically skip chest and back exercises when I do my own strength training (thank goodness BodyPump doesn’t neglect them!), but since I know I will likely be joining a gym in Ocala that doesn’t have BodyPump, I’m trying to incorporate those moves back into my own routine.
Breakfast
After my workout and Sadie’s morning walk, breakfast time arrived!
My morning meal included two toasted waffles, muenster cheese and veggie bacon.
I ended up eating it like a waffle sandwich and it was crunchy, cheesy, salty and delicious.
A solid amount of peanut butter fingers were also enjoyed as the waffles toasted because I am apparently too impatient to wait the 90 seconds it takes to toast a waffle to eat something.
Gotta get to work!
Today is Ryan’s last day of work at his current company and he will likely be home in the early afternoon. We’re hoping to see a late afternoon/early evening showing of the latest Harry Potter movie, so I’m hoping I can fly through some of the more mundane things on my to-do list today knowing that there’s such a fun activity awaiting me later today!

I want that playlist in my ears RIGHT now. Hah. Oh and Ryan’s face in that picture is totally priceless, hahaha made my morning brighter
Enjoy your day and wafflewich!

Girl you can lift so much more than that for chest press and deadlifts! Lifting heavy is good. Didn’t you learn that too on O2?

of course.
it’s actually my wrists that prevent me from doing more than that on deadlifts. my legs are fine, but my wrists feel weak. and 15 lbs. actually felt right for chest press for me.

ooooh haha – yes, dumbbell weights. total weight for deadlifts = 50 lbs. chest press = 30 lbs.

Thanks!

oh i feel ya! i’ve definitely ate enough pb fingers to qualify as a meal many times. this has actually been a struggle for me b/c i’ll just keep going! i’ve found that concentrating on the fact that i’m eating pb finger after pb finger really helps. and sometimes i’ll set a limit – like “have three AMAZING pb fingers, and then move on.” it’s hard, but having an ending in mind before you uncap the jar helps… sometimes.

Hey Julie! Quick question for ya (and I’m sure you’ve covered this before, but I have no idea where). Do you take a rest day each week from working out? Or do you typically work out 7 days a week? Just curious. I usually take 1 rest day, because I don’t want to overdo it… but I am wondering if it’s ok to still do some ‘light’ cardio. I know you aren’t a ‘fitness expert’ or anything. Just curious your perspective!

oh i definitely take a rest day… or two! (under my work it out page, you can see my daily workout log, just in case you’re curious – last week i took three rest days!). and you’re right, i’m not a fitness expert, but i will often make my rest days “active rest” days and still take sadie on a long walk or something b/c i like to move!
