Jacksonville Beach BBQ

Jacksonville Beach is such a fun place!

It’s amazing how much cooler it feels in the state of Florida just two hours north of Ocala when the sea breeze is kickin’. I love it!

Our Saturday morning in Jacksonville started with a long walk on the beach. Many beaches in Florida don’t allow dogs, so it was a treat to be able to let Sadie run around and chase birds and sea foam without it being an issue. She had an absolute blast!

Breakfast

After our beach walk, it was time for breakfast! Ryan and I picked up Starbucks to bring to my sister, Leslie, and her boyfriend, Ross.

Iced caramel macchiatos are so delicious!

Can you tell the cold drinks were giving me goosebumps?

IMG_0305-001

Ryan and I both got the spinach, feta and egg white wrap to eat and it tasted a lot cheesier than wraps I’ve had in the past from Starbucks. I was a fan!

Leslie then had to head off to a baby shower, so Ryan, Ross and I went to the grocery store to pick up some last minute items for the barbeque that was on the books for the afternoon.

Jacksonville Beach BBQ

While Ryan and Ross made salsa and guacamole, I was in charge of baking brownies using Baker’s One Bowl Brownies recipe. It’s Ross’ family’s favorite and he said his grandmother perfected it over the years, so I followed his alterations and the brownies turned out great!

The first row didn’t even make it to the barbeque. Smile

Once people started arriving, it was time to make some drinks!

(My sister, me and my friends Minda and Laurel)

I stuck to margaritas for the day.

Margaritas with chips and guacamole is where it’s at!

We spent several hours hanging out, drinking and eating an inordinate amount of chips and dip.

A little after 5 p.m., we decided to take our little party to the beach and walked a few blocks out to the sandy shore with Sadie and Ross’ lab Kona in tow.

The guys played football and messed with the dogs while the girls chatted away.

(Thanks to Minda’s Instagram account for these pictures! I am the worst at taking pictures when I’m out and about with friends.)

Red solo cup. I fill you up! Smile

Eventually our grumbling stomachs told us it was time to head back and fire up the grill.

Ryan and Ross made burgers and hot dogs for everyone and I had a burger topped with ketchup and guacamole.

And then it was time for dessert!

haagen dazs creme brulee

I took the pints of Haagen-Dazs ice cream that I brought from Ocala out of the freezer and dished out bowls of the ice cream with the homemade brownies I made earlier that day.

A winning combination!

Someone was more than happy to help clean out the pints…

It was such a fun day with wonderful people!

Barbeques are the best.

I LOVE Baker’s One Bowl Brownies! I add a little bit of coffee to mine.

  35. Jenny says:

Did you stay at a hotel or rent a house? My boyfriend’s brother is getting married there in September and I would love any suggestions on places to stay or restaurants that you might be able to provide. Thanks!

    • we didn’t stay at a hotel this time, but when we went before, we stayed at a hotel in ponte vedra (i cannot remember the name :/) and i would definitely recommend looking in that area. it’s gorgeous!

    • Amanda says:

      Jenny,

Look into One Ocean. It’s a hotel in Atlantic Beach (across the street from Ocean 60). The hotel is one of the few beachfront hotels in the area, because it is located in Beaches Town Center you can walk to a bunch of great restaurants and bars. If you wind up in that area check out Mezza Luna, M Shack, and Lemon Bar.

  36. Lea says:

The Baker’s One Bowl Brownies are the best brownies ever! It’s one of the best and easiest recipes I’ve found for brownies. It’s also dangerous because I can dominate half a pan by myself.

  37. Megan says:

Looks like you guys had a great time! I would love to find a beach here in TX that allows dogs. I’m sure that was a great way to wear Sadie out!

  38. Samantha says:

“Red solo cup. I fill you up!”

Oh mannn, I heard that song for the first time the other day. It made me both crack up and shake my head in horror.

    Looks like a fun day!

  39. Looks like such a fun evening with friends! I’ve always wanted to live by the beach. It would be amazing to take your dog for walks there and to just hang out with friends. So great!

  40. What a fun weekend! I love dog beaches :) We used to take our dog to one in NJ when we lived in Philly, but the best one so far were the ones in San Diego. So many dogs out playing and jumping to get frisbees in the water! I’m hoping there will be some dog friendly beaches in Hawaii too, when we move :)

  41. I love the picture of you and ryan together! So cute!

  42. Suzanne says:

What changes were made to the brownie recipe?

  43. Whenever you can see the white crusty otherwise film deposits stuck to your teas pot
otherwise your own coffee maker you will
wish to repeat the approach the few times to ensure that these kinds of deposits are really thoroughly removed.
If you make the pot of coffee at 10 am and also exclusive
consume the cup or perhaps two, all the rest of the pot will remain seated
recently there ready and waiting for you hours subsequently, simply because warm (provided not very because delicious) since
it had been at just 10.
