The Melting Pot Fondue Date Night

Ryan and I went out on a fondue date last night!

Melting Pot Ocala

Our first date night of 2013 took us to The Melting Pot in downtown Ocala.

Downtown Ocala is still decorated for the holidays, so we had fun walking around the square before dinner and taking in the holiday sights before they’re put away until next year.

Once we meandered over to the restaurant, we were immediately greeted by the hostess and escorted to a cozy booth.

Melting Pot

Tipsy Turtle + Blackberry Bourbon Bramble

Ryan and I planned our date night after I received a press release from The Melting Pot inviting me to try some of the dishes on the restaurant’s new Skinny Dipping menu. The Skinny Dipping menu features three courses – a salad, fondue entrée and dark chocolate fondue dessert – for less than 700 calories. I selected a salad and entrée off the Skinny Dipping menu last night and loved both of my choices! (I veered off the Skinny Dipping menu for the cheese and chocolate fondue courses.)

Our meal began with the cheese fondue!

Melting Pot Bacon and Brie Fondue

Ryan and I selected the special of the day which included a big pot of brie and bacon cheese fondue, served with bread, tart apple slices and fresh vegetables for dipping.

Melting Pot Cheese Fondue

Oh cheese fondue, you are so fabulous!

Our waitress suggested placing a piece of bread and an apple slice on our fondue forks at the same time before dipping it into the cheese and the flavor combination was fantastic!

Salads were delivered to our table shortly after we finished the cheese course.

Melting Pot Spinach Salad

I ordered the spinach salad topped with baby Portobello mushrooms, red onion, chopped bacon, Roma tomatoes and a warm burgundy shallot vinaigrette. Though this salad came off the Skinny Dipping menu, it didn’t taste lightened up at all! The toppings were quite generous and the dressing was delicious.

When it came time to order our entrees, I decided to go for a combination of shrimp and teriyaki-marinated sirloin.

At first I thought the portion looked rather small, but as I started eating, I filled up fast. (I think I had a head start on filling my belly with the cheese course!)

Every entrée comes with fresh vegetables to cook in your fondue pot and I couldn’t get enough of the mushrooms! They were the best, especially when dipped in the various sauces.

Ryan and I both agreed that the five dipping sauces that came with our entrees added so much to our meal. My favorite two sauces were the teriyaki and the mild, yogurt-based curry sauce.

And then it was time for dessert! The shining star of any fondue experience!

It didn’t take much convincing from our waitress for us to order the crème brûlée white chocolate fondue for dessert.

Caramel shavings were sprinkled atop creamy white chocolate and set afire before we cracked the caramel coating with our fondue forks and dipping items.

I am normally not a huge white chocolate fan, but the caramel component of this fondue took it to another level. Ryan and I used our spoons to get every last bit of chocolate out of our fondue pot. Incredible!

And now here’s the really fun part!

One of YOU will win a $100 gift card to The Melting Pot to enjoy your own fantastic fondue experience! (To find a location near you, you can visit The Melting Pot’s Locations page.)

To enter this giveaway, please tell me what course you would look forward to enjoying the most if you won the gift card. Cheese? Chocolate? Entrée?

I will randomly select a winner on Tuesday.

Good luck!!!

  1. Kelly R says

I think while I would enjoy the chocolate course, the cheese course would be my favorite. I have never been to a Melting Pot, but have always wanted to go.

  2. Trina says

Wow! My husband and I have always wanted to go here! I would look forward to the shrimp and all those wonderful sauces! The cheese looks awesome too!

  3. Aimee M says

The cheese, of course!!!!!!!! I LOVE melting pot! We try to go twice a year–whenever they come out with a new Big Night Out menu.

  4. says

i totally agree with you about the portion sizes! but i think the best part about the melting pot is the interactive nature of it makes you sloooow down while you eat, so your brain can tell your stomach you’re actually full! i bet that’s the portion size we’d really be satisfied with if we just slowed down with our eating! such an interesting concept.

i could lie and say i’d be most excited about the first course or entree, but let’s be honest – chocolate fondue (specifically DARK!) is the best thing going. and i love their dipping items like the marshmallows and bananas 🙂 my mouth is watering!

  5. Kendra says

I’m ALL about the chocolate. I can’t stop drooling over the picture, and it’s only 8:30 in the morning – yikes! It all looks delicious though!!

  6. Michele says

honestly? the entree! normally I’d say dessert, hands down, but I think I OD’d on desserts over the holidays. sweet tooth = gone!

  7. Leah says

I would look forward to just the entire experience in general! My husband and I have talked about going to the melting pot for a while now and this might be enough to get him to make the 2.5 hour drive to the restaurant.

  8. Jeannie says

The cheese course of course! I love Brie and the Brie apple bread combo looks delish! I have never been to the melting pot but always wanted to go. Looks like so much fun!

  9. says

OMG YES! I haven’t been to the Melting Pot since I was TWELVE and I’ve always wanted to go back! I think I’d most look forward to… hmmm the cheese. Yep, the cheese. I was debating with the chocolate, but I don’t eat cheese often and definitely eat chocolate often…

  10. Jackie says

Love the new menu they are rolling out. I would LOVE to try any course, but especially the dessert/chocolate fondue. I have always wanted to go to the melting pot!

  11. says

Ohhh The Melting Pot is my boyfriend’s favorite place to go! He took me there when we first started dating and we fell in love. We don’t get to go that often because of money but it would be perfect this week-it’s his birthday Thursday! Our favorite course is definitely the cheese.

  12. Vicky S says

Chocolate fondue is the ultimate!!! Such a special treat! I can’t agree more about the mushrooms- they are so sneaky delicious! Looks like you guys had a great time 🙂

  13. Kathy Browning says

While I am obsessed with the California salad there and ultimately would enjoy every course, the chocolate fondue is hands down my favorite!!! I absolutely LOVE the s’mores and the flaming turtle options and can never seem to get enough!

  14. Elizabeth Soltesz says

I would love love love the choclate course! My boyfreind and I went there our first date almost 5 years ago and we would love to go back!

  15. Brittany says

I would definitely love the chocolate part! Yum! It’s nice to splurge a bit here and there 🙂 That’s so nice you were able to spend more time on your date night! I feel like a lot of the time, we spend rushing from one activity to the next (or at least I do), so to pause and actually enjoy both the food and time spent with the people you love is really a treat most people don’t allow themselves. Something to work on for this year’s New Years resolution!!

  16. Amanda says

When my husband and I first started dating we went to the Melting Pot and enjoyed every amazing course!!! It was so exciting to see what came out next! It was a fantastic experience! Unfortunately we haven’t been back since. 🙁 I of course love anything chocolate, but I also would like to try the new skinny dipping options as well! My husband however is a huge cheese guy and I have a feeling he could eat the whole pot full himself…. And I may have to help out some. 😉 I can’t wait to go back soon!

  17. Bridget says

I love that you and Ryan do date nights! I would definitely look forward to the cheese course the most and that Brie with bacon sounds amazing- sounds right up my husband’s alley! 🙂

  18. Christina Webb says

The Melting Pot is one of my favorite restaurants! I go for the cheese, although the chocolate is a close 2nd. The salads are pretty good too 🙂

  19. Leah says

I LOVE the melting pot!! My favorite part is actually the vegetable part as you mentioned. I love eating the mushrooms, brocolli and potatoes with the yummy sauces!

  20. Cait says

I LOVE the Melting Pot! It’s a Valentine’s Day date tradition =) While the entrees are delicious, the cheese and chocolate are my favorite parts of the meal!

  21. Nicole Jenkins says

I have always wanted to try The Melting Pot! I have a major sweet tooth so I would probably look forward to the dessert the most, but the cheese fondue looks delicious too!! I would love to win this giveaway!

  22. says

I was just talking to my husband about going to The Melting Pot for our 6 months of marriage date night! I am most anxious about the dessert because of my sweet tooth but the cheese looks as equally delicious!

  23. says

I’ve been to the melting pot once before but I’m a fan of fondue (the cheese, that is). But the chocolate fondue was by far one of the best desserts I’ve had. We got the s’mores cookies and cream one and I literally fell in love with it. I probably would have licked the pan if it weren’t hot 😉

  24. Carley says

I’m a sucker for salty foods! The cheese fondue would definitely be mine and my hubby’s favorite! (However, those mushrooms you spoke of sound amazing! I’ve been adding mushrooms to everything recently!)

  25. Karin says

The cheese course! My husband and I are trying to get in one last date night before our son is born (in 3 weeks! gulp) and this sounds like a great meal =).

  26. Kaylee says

Ohh I’m a chocoholic, so definitely the dessert!!! My boyfriend and I have never had a fondue date night so this would be really special for his upcoming birthday.

  27. Allison says

The brie cheese and bacon course with apple slices sounds amazing. I’d love to take my mom on a mother-daughter “date-night” to the Melting Pot to thank her for all she does for me!

  28. Kristen says

Having been to the melting pot a few times it is hard to decide the best part of it. Besides being fantastic food it is simply a fantastic experience. You can never go wrong with chocolate tho 😉

  29. Bailey Rodgers says

I would definitely enjoy the cheese course the best, especially the apples and cheese! Seems like a weird combo but I love it!

  30. says

I LOVE The Melting Pot! My husband and I went there in October for our anniversary. I always leave a little too stuffed for my liking, but it’s so worth it. 😉 It’s a tough call between the cheese and the chocolate for my favorite, but I’d probably go with the chocolate!

  31. Marci says

Well the caesar salad might be my favorite part of Melting Pot (roasted pine nuts, yum)…. But fondue wise i certainly look most forward to the desserts 🙂

  32. says

Oh that all looks so good. There is a melting pot not far from us but we have never been. Of course the dessert looks delicious but I am loving spinach salads right now and yours sounds great. I think I would have to try the skinny dipping menu also.

  33. Andrea Saeger says

CHEESE! My husband and I love the Melting Pot! It’s one of our special occasion restaurants that we only frequent 1-2 per year. I thunk it’s awesome they have a skinny menu now. Can’t wait to try it!

  34. Christine says

I have never been to The Melting Pot, but the cheese and chocolate options look amazing! I would love to take my husband there for an anniversary dinner since he loves cheese and has always wanted to go!

  35. Christi Cantrell says

I would enjoy all 3 courses! Every course that you had last night was right up my alley. I have also never been to the melting pot but would love to go.

  36. Kari says

Honestly all of it look delish!! But I would have to say my favorite part of the meal would be the dessert-the fruit looked amazing and fresh. So dipping all those little pieces of heaven into that gorgeous white chocolate would be a great way to end the meal!

  37. says

Can I just say that I would look forward to all of the courses? Because I think I would…But maybe the cheese if someone was twisting my arm. I’ve never been and we have one really close to us. This post made me so hungry!

  38. Kaitlin says

chocolate ALL the way! i don’t just have a sweet tooth–all my teeth are sweet; i have a full set. i could easily bypass everything else and go straight for the chocolate! haha

  39. Amanda says

Yummy! I’ve never been to The Melting Pot, but many of my friends have eaten there! I’d love to try it one day. And, of course, dessert would be the highlight! 🙂

  40. says

I’m so jealous that it’s still warm enough to go out without a jacket! I live in MI and it is a brisk 28 this morning! Brrrr. And I would want to do the chocolate, I’m definitely a chocoholic 😉

  41. Linda says

So hard to choose between the cheese and chocolate!!! Even though it goes against my nature, I would have to say cheese though. I love dipping the apples and in ‘real life’ I never think to put cheese and apples together.

  42. says

It must be so nice to live somewhere where you do not have to bundle up in a heavy coat in jealous!!

I have never been to a fondue restaurant, but am now dying to try one. I think that I would look forward to the cheese portion the most!! 🙂

  43. Kaylyn says

Holy smokes!! Every photo you took looks fabulous!!! I have never had cheese fondue before… (I know, I know.. living under a rock). 🙂 I definitely need to get my buns over there to try it out! YUM!

  44. Alexandra says

I love the melting pot and its definitely one of those great date night places! I know the dinner portion is fantastic, but let’s be honest nothing beats a big bowl of melted chocolate and yummy treats to dip into it!

  45. Madison says

I’m pregnant so anything off the menu would be fantastic but the cheese fondue and the creme brûlée at the end had my mouth watering !!!!

  46. Vanessa says

I’ve always wanted to go to the melting pot! I can’t decide which corse I would be most excited to try, because all look and sound so good!! But since I love my sweets probably the chocolate! yum!

  47. Kristina says

I’ve been dying to go here for a long time and now reading your review I still think the chocolate will be my favorite part! I would totally skip right to the dessert course if I could!

  48. says

I was just telling my boyfriend as soon as he’s done with Air Force training and we have a chance for date night I want to go to the Melting Pot! I’ve never been and it looks so fun! I would go for that exact cheese fondue you and Ryan got!

  49. Patty says

Definitely the chocolate!! Love the melting pot but it’s generally out of my budget so this would be a real treat. Happy new year!!

  50. Kristin says

I would love to try the cheese! I’ve never been to the Melting Pot, and it all sounds so delicious! I’d love a date night here with my husband!

  51. abby r says

i would look forward to all three courses! i have been wanting to try to melting pot for awhile now but have never gotten the chance. if i had to pick, i would probably be most partial to the dessert course.

  52. Leigh says

Definitely the cheese! I tried to go vegan once, but then had a date at the melting pot, so that vegan thing didn’t last very long…

  53. Lindsay says

I’ve never been to the Melting Pot but I’ve always heard great things. I’d look forward to the chocolate fondue the best – but that may be because I just ate a savory egg breakfast 🙂

  54. Jennifer E. says

Yuuuummmm! I’ve never been there and all the courses look amazing! I’d love to try all those sauces with the shrimp, and the cheese and apples look so yummy, too!

  55. says

they all look amazing! but I most look forward to the entree course … so many different combinations! but the cheese, chocolate, and even salad courses would get their due attention!

  56. Magda Cychowski says

I recently just began eating meat again after being vegetarian for 5 years. The teriyaki sirloin sounds incredible!

  57. Kaylee says

Chocolate! My sweet tooth never fails me 🙂 I think this would be a perfect date night opportunity for mine and my boyfriend’s two year anniversary coming up next month!

  58. Ashley K says

I would most enjoy the entree!! The shrimp looks delicious and I didnt even know they did entrees with all the veggies and everything. This would be amazing!!

  59. Katie says

I love the dessert part! But we definitely need to do that as a first course because I am usually so full by the end and can have only a couple of bites.

  60. Julie says

The Melting Pot is a great date night idea as I did the same last year! Trying to decide between cheese, chocolate and a main course is tough! I would probably go for the chocolate because that’s always the best part of any meal!

  61. Sarah says

Wow! Everything looks delicious. I would be looking forward to it all. But I think the beginning and end with the cheese and dessert would win me over.

  62. Chrissy says

My husband and I love our cheesy date nights…so the cheese of course! We have even skipped the main course and just ordered two pots of cheese…embarrassing I know!

  63. laura says

that’s pretty cool they have a lightened up menu now! that always turned me off of the melting pot because it seemed like a huge calorie bomb dinner. I OF COURSE would look forward to dessert the most 🙂 that’s cool you were asked to promote the skinny menu, but they were okay with you subbing out for the “real” stuff besides your salad! smart lady! looks like a fun date! what is it about dipping your food that makes it more fun?! haha!

  64. Kayla says

The chocolate is the winner for me! I’ll eat almost anything covered in chocolate 🙂 the skinny dipping menu sounds awesome and I’d love to try it. Great date night!

  65. Lauren says

I have always wanted to try the Melting Pot, it looks so good! I would say the cheese course would be my favorite too try as I can’t say no to dipping anything in yummy gooey cheese:)

  66. Amy says

I have never been to the Melting Pot before so it all looks wonderful! It is definitely a toss up for me between the cheese and the dessert! Your salad does look amazing though!!

  67. says

Def. cheese! I have a bad obsession with anything cheese. When I lived near my family, we used to go to the melting pot for my birthday every year. We have gotten out of doing it now that we have moved away but it is one of those places I still always think about for special, special occasions.

  68. Debi says

EVERYTHING- I LOVE the melting pot!!! But i would especially love having a date night with my husband- those NEVER happen with 4 small children!!

  71. Brittany says

Melting Pot is so delicious. I have tried many times to make my own chocolate fondue, but nothing compares to theirs! Every time I go, I look forward to the dessert portion of the meal the most.

  72. says

I love the melting pot. Their salads are THE BEST! But I look forward to the entree the most because of the mushroom which I get all to myself because my husband hates them

  73. Jessi says

I recently started reading your blog and I am hooked!

I love the Melting Pot and am so excited that they have a skinny menu! Although I can’t leave a meal without indulging in a little chocolate, the cheese fondue is amazingggg at the Melting Pot and I would definitely look forward to eating a pot of it!!

  75. Julie Spence says

The CHEESE! Sounds so yummy. The only cheese fondue i’ve ever had was my grandmas and that was pretty darn fantastic so I’m sure I would love this. We just moved into a new state and I was happy to see we have a melting pot downtown. I would be the same way with the mushrooms, I just love them. : )

  76. Amie says

Oh goodness sounds yummy! My hubby has been trying to get me to go to the melting pot for months now and I keep having to turn him down. I’ve been battling anorexia & finally in recovery, so the thought of all that cheesy, chocolaty, dessert filled goodness has honestly terrified me. But now with the skinny dipping menu (YAY) and a new positive mindset I just mayyyyy be able to finally take him up on a fondue date! So I’d have to say I look most forward to treating myself to the dark chocolate, sounds amazing! Hope I get to go soon & finally see why people love this place so much 🙂

  77. says

I’ve always wanted to try The Melting Pot – I’ve heard such great things about it!
Based on your pictures, I think the entree portion of the meal looks awesome! Yum!

  83. says

I wold definitely be most excited for the cheese!!! I have at home fondue nights all the time, but it would be awesome to actually be able to try out the Melting Pot. Plus, the combination you talked about of bread and an apple slice dipped in cheese sounded mouthwatering 🙂

The cheese…. I want all the cheese!!! It’s by far my favorite part of the fondue experience. The chocolate comes in a close second though 😉

  90. Shauna Lawlis says

  91. says

I love love love the cheese course, I probably could do all three courses with just cheese! Thats really awesome they are doing a new skinny menu! I’d love to try that out.

  92. says

What a fun date night! The courses all make my mouth water, and I’m usually a girl who loves her desserts (who doesn’t have a sweet tooth though?) But lately, I’ve been on a veggie kick and eating tons of grilled broccoli, roasted brussels, sauteed mushrooms. I’d love to try the fondue veggies just to add some variety and mix things up!

  93. Kelly says

I love the melting pot and I’m glad to hear they have a Skinny Dippings menu! Despite that, I still look forward to the chocolate dipping the most 😉

  94. Nicole says

  99. Christine Middleton says

I have only had fondue once but through you link found that there is a melting pot in Canada and in our neighbouring city!!! From your pictures it would be such as toss up as to what looks the best but I would have to say the cheese fondue or the Entree 😀

  100. Lily says

I’ve never been to the melting pot, though there is one in the next town over from me! I think I would best enjoy the chocolate, but I am very intrigued by the cheese!!!

  101. Kelly says

I’m going to the melting Pot for their Ladies Night Out event with friends on Tuesday. This would come in handy! My favorite part is the chocolate fondue. I could skip everthing else and go right for the chocolate 🙂

  102. Leslie says

This is so awesome!! My husband and I have always wanted to try The Melting Pot, but we’ve never wanted to shell out that much moolah for it. A gift card would definitely get us in the door! And as much as we love sweets, the cheesy fondue would totally be what we would look forward to the most! Thank you so much for offering this giveaway!!!!!

  103. says

Sounds weird but ad-mist all the yummy fondues- I could totally just eat the cheese and chocolate fondue- I love their Caesar salads! They have pine nuts in them and just take the plain ol’ Caesar salad to the next level!

  108. Arielle M says

Ohmygosh. I love the melting pot! My boyfriend and I went their for our 2 year anniversary last year and it was amazing!! (And quite expensive) they even brought us to a 2 person booth with a curtain to close. Woah. We had a four course meal. The salad, cheese, entree, and dessert. The turtle chocolate fondue they light on fire!!! The fondue makes all the foods to dip so much better!!!!!

  109. says

i LOVE cheese so the cheese course is my favorite! i have also had their tipsy turtles – fabulous drink. my girlfriends and i are actually going to the melting pot this thursday to celebrate my birthday!

  110. Bayley Crane says

Wow – your Melting Pot experience looks awesome! Though I’ve never been, my fiancé has been a few times. We recently registered for our wedding and while at Macy’s bought a fondue kit on a whim. We’ve only been brave enough to try the cheese recipes, but thus far, they have been delicious!! I’d love to try the actual restaurant!

  119. Kimberly H. says

My husband and I just recently got married (December 31 wahoo!) and due to his job we have yet to celebrate! This would be the perfect way! We went to the melting pot on our anniversary last year and had no idea they had a white chocolate and caramel fondue! I’m a sucker for anything white chocolate so that’s the thing I am most looking forward to. My husband would love the salad!

I’ve never had fondue before but I have always wanted to try it. I think I would enjoy the chocolate the best… my sweet tooth always wins 🙂

I’ve been to Melting Pot twice and absolutely love the dessert course! I could go there JUST for that lol. Although, the cheese course is a VERY close second!! Glad you guys enjoyed your Melting Pot experience!

Ohh I would have to say the cheese in honor of my high school days when I would spend my bumping Saturdays getting giddy off cheese fondue

I have never been to The Melting Pot, but would look forward to dessert….no question! I saw on the menu that their “original” dessert fondue is chocolate and peanut butter!! YUM

I would love to go to the Melting Pot with my mom and try it with her! I’ve never had fondue and think it would be a great meal and experience to share with some an amazing woman!

I grew up around fondue. It was always a special family meal or group dinner. But we only did the cheese & oil fondues at my house. I would LOVE to try a yummy chocolate fondue!!! (:

I think the dessert fondue would be absolutely delicious! I’ve never actually had fondue but your pictures have me dying to try it!! Thanks Julie!

All of the courses sound amazing but Brie is one of my most favorite appetizers, so I would have to say I would be most excited for the cheese course!

  131. Kristen says

I would LOVE Brie and bacon cheese fondue! That sounds heavenly. We have never been to the melting pot and would love to try it!

You can’t possibly expect me to pick just ONE can you?! 🙂 Im sure they are all amazing…but for me its a tie… I couldn’t possibly favor one over the other—so I would have to say the cheese and the chocolate! Perfect combo if you ask me!! Salty and savory in the beginning…and something sweet to top it off! I have been wanting to try Melting Pot but have never been…this would be a perfect way to try it!

I have never been to the Melting Pot but have always wanted to try it. The chocolate would be my favorite because there is just something about the warm, melty, richness that would be unbeatable!

It’s hard to pass up delicious looking steak and shrimp but I think for my first time at the melting pot I’d definitely have to say cheese, please!

  135. Tara says

I love the melting pot! Such a hard decision. I love cheese, but I have a huge sweet tooth! I think I will definitely go with the cheese! YUM!

I think I’d enjoy the cheese fondue the most! I can never get the cheese to melt properly and stay melted when I try to make fondue at home!
