Mmmm, Mmmm Good

Well, I now know why she calls it “Mmmm Sauce.”

Mmm Sauce

After reading rave reviews about Mama Pea’s Mmmm Sauce for more than a year now, I finally gave it a go this afternoon.

It was freakin’ awesome. Really, really awesome. (I actually forgot to add the lemon juice and still thought it was great!)

The base of the sauce is raw almonds, chickpeas and oil, but the nutritional yeast and spices (hooray for curry!) really take it to the next level. If you love curry and are in the market for a creamy sauce to put on basically anything savory, you must give it a whirl! (<—Pun intended since you make it in the food processor. Yes, I do reach really far for a punny joke!)

The sauce only calls for 1/4 cup of chickpeas, so after I opened a can and used what I needed for the sauce, I poured the remaining chickpeas into a bowl and topped them with a boatload of mmmm sauce for lunch.

I also had an English muffin on the side and topped one half with peanut butter and unsweetened shredded coconut and the other half with honey and coconut.

And now I’m getting ready to finish up for the day and head out to happy hour with some friends tonight!

Do the Friday dance!

P.S. I’m in the market for a quality, cute windbreaker for an upcoming trip but, as Michelle says, a cute windbreaker is a bit of an oxymoron. If you have any recommendations, please let me know! I’m on the lookout!

  4. I have no advice on the windbreaker thing … I’m with you, it’s hard to find one that is actually cute!

  5. That was a perfect pun! :)

Peas and Thank You is vegan food blog. Have you ever considered going vegan? You should watch the movie “Forks Over Knives” It is very powerful. Lean meat is not only unhealthy & poison to your body making an acidic environment and leaching calcium out of your bones causing brittle bones but also immoral and detrimental to the environment.

as far as windbreakers go, I truly love the brand Outdoor Research. I have a puffer vest and down jacket from there- they are really phenomenal! And a lifetime guarantee! Which I’ve used before- you literally just take pictures, email them, and they give you the shipping address and then you get your new/ fixed item back in like 2 weeks! http://www.outdoorresearch.com/en/womens/jackets/womens-palisade-jacket.html

That sauce really is life changing. I haven’t made it in so long though. Need to get on it. :)

  10. It reminds me sort of hummus with the chick pea base and oil! We always have that on hand

  11. Lianna says:

I got a volcom brand windbreaker around Christmas time that I LOVE. It’s black, more fitted through the waist/midsection, and has hot coral lining in the hood (hoods are essential for the rainy weather in BC)! It’s not too thick, so acts a bit like a shell- wear more underneath and the warmer you are. :)

I make the MMM Sauce all the time! Try it with the lemon so so good! I eat it with a bowl of brown rice, beans, avacado and cilantro. You can also throw in black olives and cheese. If you are ever in the Northwest get a Yumm Bowl from Cafe Yumm. (Same sauce!)

  18. OOoooo I need to make this Mmmm sauce! Over some whole-wheat pasta? Mmm!!

I have this jacket in black and wear it all the time with any kind of outfit. I bought it one size up so I can layer underneath, plus I have long arms. It’s lightweight so it travels easily, has a belt you can cinch to define your waist, and the hood is clutch. I think it looks better in person than the photos show, and I never actually zip it up as far as they show in the picture (looks kinda weird) unless it’s downpouring. AND Nordstrom has free shipping and free returns, definitely a plus.

I’ve been reading your blog for a long time – first time I’ve responded!! Hello! *waves* :) I beyond love it – you can’t even imagine how many people you pick up/lift up. Thanks, mi lady! (Bringin’ back salutations from 1699! Woot!) Your frequent posting makes me happy and gives me something to look forward to. :)

You asked about a cute windbreaker, and I have multiple suggestions! Just a year ago I was on an exhaustive hunt for an adorable windbreaker for a trip to NYC. And when I say exhaustive, I mean I read the entire Internet. Besides the adorable windbreaker mentioned by Nicole G. in the comments (from Jcrew), THIS windbreaker/jacket (linked below this paragraph) from H&M is super adorable, and 1/3 the price. ($49.95!) I own it, I love it, I have been complimented on it a bazillion times. It’s an Anorak style jacket (which I always want to pronounce “Adirondacks” in my head, like the chairs/part of New York state), however, it’s way better than your average Anorak jacket. Why: the typical Anorak drawstring (which CAN give a flattering, nipped-in-at-the-waist look) is dropped down lower than most, thereby elongating your torso, and preventing that weird “thick” look that SOME Anorak jackets give when they tie too close to the bust line. (You know, that babydoll-gone-wrong look.) Plus it looks very flattering left open or closed. Plus, because of where it falls on your hips (the length), it’s very slimming (not that you need to worry about that at all, but I do, and others who might read this comment may want that too – if you’re looking for the most flattering, slimming length, this is it!) ALSO because of the length, it’s very comfortable in the elements (keeps your bum warm, if you want that. But thin enough not to make you HOT.) Without further adieu, I give you option number one: the H&M jacket (comes in navy too):

I ALSO purchased this fantastic North Face windbreaker – originally saw it at Macy’s, ended up buying it on Zappos! While it does not have a drawstring waist, it’s length and cut is more feminine, and not straight up and down. (I.e. you don’t look like a box, you look like a GIRL.) I bought it because it’s RAIN PROOF, and therefore utilitarian, but also very flattering. Plus it has a hood that you can fold down and tuck in easily. I wore this in NYC on brisk, wet days, it was very easy to layer! By far my favorite, most flattering utilitarian jacket. You can’t ask for more! Plus it comes in bazillions of colors. Check out the model in the yellow jacket to see how great it looks from the side! (I purchased a navy jacket, to be more neutral/universally appealing.) Enjoy!
