Saturday
Our Saturday morning began with a workout! After banana bread protein pancakes for breakfast, Ryan, Chase and I headed off to the gym. I initially planned on taking a yoga class with Ryan but my mind was going a mile a minute and I was craving a solid strength workout, so I opted out of yoga in favor of completing my Everything One Minute Upper Body Workout.
Since Ryan’s yoga class was 75 minutes long, I knew I would have more than enough time to complete my upper body workout, so I kicked things off with 20 minutes of cardio split between the elliptical and the treadmill. After my upper body strength workout, I rounded everything out with a 12-minute Nike Training Club arms and abs workout.
Aside from yoga, I cannot remember the last time I spent a solid hour at the gym for a workout. These days I’m all about 30-45 minute sweat sessions so it was kind of a nice change of pace to take my time during a longer workout. I still definitely prefer short, sweet and intense workouts, but Saturday’s sweat session was a great way to change it up!
When Ryan and I went to pick up Chase from childcare, we did what we always do and tried to sneak a peek at our little guy before he noticed us to see how he was doing. I don’t know why, but I always get a kick out of watching Chase play when Mom and Dad aren’t there which is something I can probably file under Creepy Mom Things I Do, along with 95 other things I do every day.
With the three of us reunited, we drove home and leashed Sadie up for her morning walk. I know we haven’t lived in Charlotte all that long, but this spring is shaping up to be the most beautiful spring I’ve experienced since our move. Temperatures hovered around 80-degrees and the sun was out all weekend long. Loved it!
After a quick walk, we ate lunch before Chase went down for a nap. While Chase slept, Ryan and I went into Easter prep mode, assembling Chase’s Easter basket, filling eggs and all that jazz. I also went into cleaning overdrive and tackled some organizational tasks I had on my to-so list in my home office.
By the time Chase was up, we were ready for our next adventure and picked up smoothies to fuel us through playtime at Discovery Place Kids and an evening Easter church service.
Since we arrived at Discovery Place Kids an hour before the place closed, we seemed to miss the weekend chaos which was a welcomed treat!
Chase had a ball running all over the place until we scooped him up to head off to church for the 5:30 p.m. service.
The music during the Easter service was so beautiful and the worship team did an amazing job! After we left, we swung by the grocery store to pick up a pizza and dessert before making our way home. The rest of our Saturday night was spent on the couch watching episodes of The Big Bang Theory before bed!
Sunday
On Easter (and Christmas!) morning when I was growing up, I remember my mom used to make our family Orange Julius drinks to enjoy with breakfast. Since I know Ryan is a huge fan of the sweet and creamy drink as well, I figured I’d blend up a batch for us to enjoy together as an Easter treat!
I blended 6-ounces of frozen orange juice concentrate with 1 cup of whole milk, a splash of vanilla extract, 1 tablespoon of sugar and two handfuls of ice. Yum!!
Ryan and I thought we lucked out with an unexpectedly low-key morning when Chase was still snoozing at 8:30 a.m. When it was 9:30 a.m. and he still wasn’t up, I started to worry that maybe it wasn’t just a full day of activities yesterday that tuckered our little man out and began to think he might be sick. I went into his nursery and scooped up a burning-hot toddler. Chase’s temperature read 103 and I stripped him out of his pajamas, changed his diaper and brought him downstairs where he refused to eat breakfast and would only sip on his milk.
Motrin seemed to help his fever a bit and his appetite returned enough for him to eat part of a muffin which we considered a small victory. Our Easter basket and egg hunt fun was postponed in favor of cuddles on the couch with our sick little man. Chase’s naps were all over the place on Easter, which meant we spent the day lounging around at home.
Chase had one little burst of energy when he seemed to be doing better in the late afternoon so we took advantage of his smiles and headed out to the backyard for a short and sweet egg hunt, no pants required (one of the perks of being sick).
I hate that we had to cancel our Easter plans with my friend Carrie and her family at the last minute but they were so kind and understanding.
The rest of our Easter looked like more couch cuddles, some swing time in the backyard and plenty of rest for Chase. My fingers are crossed that he will wake up feeling better this morning!
I hope everyone was feeling nice and healthy where you were this weekend and that you all are doing well so far today! Thanks for stopping by the blog and checking in with our little fam!
