Today kicks off day two of the conference and I’ll also be speaking on a panel today, so I’m feeling a little nervous! Hopefully some of the jitters will go away soon, but I know I’ll be able to breathe a little easier once I’m in the clear and will just have sessions and workouts to enjoy.
But now it’s time for your usual Things I’m Loving Friday post! Below you will find a list of things I’m loving this week. As always, I’d love to hear about things that are making you smile in the comments section of this post. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Things I’m Loving Friday
This was an impulse buy at TJMaxx over the weekend (I know I’m not the only one who cannot resist their gourmet treats section!) and it totally blew me away. I thought it would be a nice little treat but I had a hard time not polishing off the entire bag in one sitting. It was sweet, buttery and oh-so-good!
When I travel on blog-related trips, I often use my phone to try to stay on top of my emails so I don’t end up totally drowning in my inbox when I finally sit down at the computer. As I’m sure you all know, using data on a phone is the fastest way to drain the battery, so in preparation for IDEA, I bought the Merkury Innovations charger for $12 on super sale through HauteLook to help give my phone a little juice when the battery gets low. So far it’s working well! I just plug my phone into the charger (it also works to charge anything you can plug into a USB cord) and watch the battery level come back to life!
In two weeks I will be helping judge this event one evening and I cannot wait! Fire in the City is a competition dining series where local chefs sign on to create three dishes using mystery ingredients that are revealed on the day of the competition. (Kind of like the TV show Chopped!) Guests and guest judges will vote on the dishes and select a winner who will progress to the next round. Fire in the City takes place over several weeks and the winner will receive a grand prize of $2,000! I’m looking forward to a fun date night with Ryan and some delicious food prepared by some of the top chefs in Charlotte.
- Using BirchBox Samples While Traveling
Ever since I started subscribing to BirchBox last year, I’ve accumulated a small sampling of perfect travel-size beauty products. While I use some at home, I’ve saved a bunch to use when I travel because they’re the perfect size! Hotel beauty products often seem rather watered down to me, so I love having some high-quality beauty products on hand. During my trip to Anaheim this week, I’ve been using Fleurs de Tempes volumizing shampoo and Klorane dry shampoo(<—my new favorite!!) from past boxes and loving both!
- Remembering Robin Williams
When I found out that Robin Williams passed away on Monday, I felt a lump in my throat I couldn’t ignore. His passing affected me in a way I never realized a celebrity death could. I’ve been a fan of Robin Williams since his days as the Genie in Aladdin and his wonderfully entertaining role as the lead in Mrs. Doubtfire. And then there was Good Will Hunting, Patch Adams and Hook. Dead Poet’s Society. More favorites. But it was his standup that truly wowed me. Ryan and I had the pleasure of seeing him perform live and walked away in awe of his talent. He could take a single thought and run with it and his standup DVDs are go-tos in our house whenever we need a laugh. The ability to make millions smile and laugh is such a gift and Robin’s warm demeanor made him seem approachable, gentle and genuine.
I’ve found myself reading Robin Williams’ quotes and tributes from those who loved him over the past few days and here are some I found rather poignant: Zelda Williams (Robin’s daughter), Mike Rowe, Norm Macdonald. I love this quote from Mike Rowe that I think captures the way many people feel who didn’t really know Robin at all but loved him for his talent and his incredible ability to entertain and make us laugh: “When I heard about Robin yesterday, my first feeling was shock. Then, a kind of sadness, too shallow to call grief, but to too real to ignore.”
