The Best Cake Batter Ice Cream

August 1, 2011 by Julie 99 Comments

Big discovery this evening!

The BEST cake batter ice cream I’ve ever had.

ben and jerry's cake batter 005

To me, nearly every cake batter flavored ice cream or frozen yogurt I’ve previously tried had a certain taste. It’s like all of the ice cream and fro yo people came together and made one pseudo cake batter flavor that they all then reproduced and sold. Sure these “cake batter imposters” are decent, but they never actually reminded me of true cake batter flavor.

Then the reliable Ben & Jerry’s stepped up to the plate and delivered. They delivered BIG.

ben and jerry's cake batter 006

Okay, so I must preface this review by saying I love boxed cake mix. I think the batter from a boxed cake mix tastes like heaven and that’s exactly what this ice cream tastes like. Boxed cake mix and chocolate frosting from a tub.

The good news? It’s all-natural with totally recognizable ingredients. Does this make it healthy? No. Delicious? Yes.

Ryan and I agree that this ice cream flavor is deserving of some serious praise. It still doesn’t top our highly elusive, all-time favorite Ben &Jerry’s flavor, but it is fantastic.

We managed to wait until after dinner to dig into that pint, but I had to blog about it first because I was quite excited. Open-mouthed smile

Dinner

Dinner tonight was another hotel freebie meal.

ben and jerry's cake batter 001

Teriyaki chicken with rice, green beans and mini egg rolls.

ben and jerry's cake batter 003

The egg rolls and teriyaki sauce were good but I just couldn’t choke down the green beans. They were clearly canned and I’m a bit of a green bean snob and need ‘em fresh. The texture of canned green beans give me the heebie jeebies.

Kind of like Ryan from The Bachelorette.

And speaking of The Bachelorette, the finale is on TONIGHT and I am pumped!

I’ve seen Cake Batter (and passed it up) several times – but now I’m thinking passing it up was a HUGE mistake! That looks amazing.

Just wondering why you and Ryan have been eating the hotel food when you are there? Is it mostly just because it’s free? I am just curious because the meals you two usually eat are always delicious looking. The cake batter ice cream sounds amazing, but reading the comments the oatmeal cookie ice cream sounds freaking amazing!

100% b/c it’s free. we’re trying not to spend tons of money b/c moving is expensive and the place we have our eye on costs more in rent than we initially expected to pay.

I love fresh green beans for some reason I’ve always liked canned green beans too. I think it’s because it reminds me of my grandmom. She would always have canned green beans out with dinner when my sister and I would stay over her house. 🙂

Totally agree about Ryan. He has been a creeper since the first episode. Yay JP!

That ice cream looks amazing! When I used to eat ice cream, my favorite ben and jerrys flava was the one with peanut butter cups in it. YUM. But, the best cake batter ice cream I’ve had ever had was at Cold Stone Creamery. It was so good (but really sweet so I had to get the smallest size). 🙂

Omg if you love the cake batter flavor you will die over the Carrot Cake flavor….. Well, if you like carrot cake that is. I don’t normally buy ice cream but I bought this for my husband and temptation got the best of me and I polished it off before he could even get a taste! Same for the Red Velvet kind. This is the reason I don’t normally buy ice cream, since I’m starting to see a pattern here lol.

Ben & Jerry’s = best ice cream EVER!! I’ve been looking for Oatmeal Cookie Chunk all summer… I don’t think they sell it ANYWHERE in my state. Sadly, I’ve had to stop eating whole pints at one time because I think they were possibly contributing to my recent massive acne breakouts. lol But I managed to get through Half-Baked, Milk & Cookies, Boston Cream Pie (blechh), Fair Goodness Cake!, Imagine Whirled Peace (mehhh.) I also have about half a pint of Peanut Brittle sitting in my freezer… that might disappear soon. 🙂
