Artisanal Dish

February 5, 2012 by Julie 50 Comments

Last night Ryan and I enjoyed a fun date night together!

Ryan wanted to take me to the Artisanal Dish, a gourmet European-inspired café/ grocery store hybrid, after he heard that they serve high-quality, organic fare.

The Artisanal Dish is like a scaled down Whole Foods with fancy prepared foods, a comfy café and less of a supermarket feel.

(The above picture is taken from their website because I didn’t want to disturb the diners last night since it’s a small establishment.)

Their menu changes daily depending on what fresh food they have available at the time. I was pumped to see seared scallops available and ordered them atop a green salad.

I ordered the salad with the balsamic dressing which came on the side. I immediately dumped all of it on my salad after taking a taste and falling in love.

On the side I also ate a wedge of their famous homemade macaroni and cheese which is basically a pie of gourmet cheese with some noodles thrown in for good measure.

Unreal, right? As a serious cheese lover, I was in heaven!

Ryan got a salad and a sloppy joe sandwich made with their humanely raised Wagyu beef that was also incredible.

While waiting for our meals to come out, we browsed around the wine and beverage section where I was immediately drawn to herbal-infused sparking water.

I got a bottle of Ayala’s ginger lemon peel sparkling water while Ryan opted for the cinnamon orange peel flavor.

Hands down the best sparking water I’ve ever tried.

Why does it have to be $2 a bottle?

I swear if that stuff came out of the tap, I would have no problems drinking tons of water every day.

After our dinner date, we came home, changed into our pajamas and watched A Few Good Men. Ryan DVRed the movie a couple of weeks ago and neither of us had ever seen it so we were excited to watch.

“You want the truth!? You can’t handle the truth!”

We both liked it a lot.

Demi Moore’s hair in that movie reminded me a bit of Hey Arnold’s (aka “football head”) hair. It was stylin’!

And speaking of football, I hope you’re enjoying Super Bowl Sunday!

Sometimes I want to go back and watch all of the older movies I’ve never seen. But I tried to watch a few and I just cringe inside when I see really old technology and the general old look to them. I swear CGI and new stuff has totally warped my eyes!

I sooo wish we had one of those types of restaurants here in Rochester, NY!! We had something similar at one of our local grocery stores, Wegmans, but they closed it because prices were too high so they weren’t making enough money to keep it running but they put in a lower priced, high end “fast food”ish type place. Wegmans is no Whole Foods but they have Nature’s Market which is kind of a health store within a store. They carry all kinds of organic, soy, gluten free and other “-free” foods that you find at Whole Foods stores. I know Wegmans now has stores all over the east coast and are adding more and more every year. It truly is a one stop shopping experience!

P.S. When will you be announcing Feb book club selection??

That sparking water looks awesome! And so does the rest of your meals (mac and cheese slice, um I could probably eat that every day).

Also I’ve never really seen a few good men either, but I’m in law school and they play clips of it in class all the time. Totally random but whenever I think of that movie or my cousin vinney I think of law school. The only two movies they every play clips of in class.

I hope you, Ryan and Sadie have an awesome Sunday!!

He’s at the point where he can quote the whole thing 🙂 Glad you are having fun up there! Maybe I’ll see you and Les next weekend at the half marathon.
