Thursday Morning Catch Up

June 25, 2015 by Julie 70 Comments

Good morning! How are you guys today? Juggling work, blog stuff, my in-laws’ visit and preparations for my grandmother’s funeral have left me feeling a little frazzled. I meant to share a nursery tour with you guys this week, but haven’t had the chance to sit down at the computer and type out the details in the way that I want to, so it will be coming your way next week when things settle down a bit. I apologize for the delay!

What else has been going on this week? Oh! We had our hospital tour on Tuesday night!

Hospital Tour

Novant Health Maternity

Ryan and I joined a handful of couples for a 60-minute tour of the hospital where we’re planning to have our baby. It was great to learn a little bit more about what to expect, especially since I didn’t know even the most basic things like where we should go when I’m in labor… The emergency room? The main lobby? The woman who led our tour was great about answering questions and Ryan and I left feeling a bit more prepared.

I’m not going to lie, as Ryan and I entered one of the rooms used to deliver babies, I turned to him and said, “Well, this is terrifying.” You guys know by now that medical things freak me out and just being in the hospital environment always makes me a little nervous. I’m trusting everyone who has told me that something magical comes over a woman when it’s time to deliver a baby… Give me alllll the magic! Haha!

When we got home, Ryan snapped a quick 33-week bump pic in my pajama bottoms, naturally. (If you think I don’t immediately put on my pjs the second I arrive home you are seriously mistaken…)

Lunch at Kindred

Aside from Tuesday night’s hospital tour, there have been a few more high points in the week amidst the busyness and continued grief surrounding my grandma’s passing that bubbles up unexpectedly. (Ryan and I leave for Gettysburg for the weekend early tomorrow morning to celebrate Mimi’s life and attend her funeral.)

Yesterday afternoon, I was able to enjoy a little break in the middle of the day. I broke away from work around noon and joined Ryan and his family for a delicious lunch at Kindred.

Kindred made an appearance as a great place to go for dinner on my Davidson Dining Guide, but I had never been there for lunch and was excited to check out their lunchtime menu. Since Ryan raved about Kindred’s burger (he’s been there for lunch a few times with coworkers), I knew the cheeseburger was the way to go and ordered it with a buttermilk kale salad on the side.

It was a great little break in the day!

Evening Boat Time

Since last night was Ryan’s family’s final night in North Carolina (they leave late this evening to head back to Florida), we wanted to take them out on the boat one last time. We picked up subs from Publix for dinner and puttered around the lake until close to 9 p.m.

Captain Sadie led the way, of course.

Ryan helped a little by driving the boat…

Since my body cannot seem to stop sweating these days, I naturally found myself swimming in the lake before too long. I cannot say how incredible floating in the water feels to me right now. It takes all the pressure off my body and I’m pretty sure I would bring my laptop in the lake and blog from a raft right now if I could.

Sadie’s battle with my baby bump continued once I got out of the water.

Look at that ridiculous face!

Once we made it back home, I got to work in the kitchen. My grandma was known in our family for her incredible sugar cookies and I am making 100+ of her cookies for the fellowship that will follow Mimi’s funeral on Saturday. (I actually shared the recipe on the blog in the past, which you may find here: Mimi’s Sugar Cookies.)

Sugar Cookie Dough

I prepared three large batches of cookie dough to refrigerate overnight and will bake them later this evening so they’ll hopefully still taste fresh around lunchtime on Saturday.

And now I have to head off to work! I hope you guys have a wonderful Thursday!
