48 Hours to Plan a Honeymoon

November 3, 2010 by Julie 176 Comments

Last week all I could think about was our wedding. This week, all I can think about is our currently non-existent honeymoon. Ryan and I have faith that we’ll come up with something magical within the next day or two!

Today I will be researching:

  • Cruises
  • Charleston, South Carolina
  • North Carolina mountain getaways
  • Puerto Rico
  • New York
  • Italy (???)

As always, I’m definitely open to suggestions! I’ve already checked out a bunch of the hotels you guys told me about in the comments section of my post last night and a bunch of them look amazing!

We are planning to postpone our St. Lucia trip until next year. We were really looking forward to visiting the island and still hope to make it out there within a year… Perhaps for our one-year anniversary? 😀

Until then it’s crunch time to find a replacement honeymoon in 48 hours. Ready? Go!

Breakfast

It’s been a while since I’ve busted out cold oatmeal for breakfast! Last night I enjoyed a small bowl of oats after dinner as my evening snack and saved the remaining oatmeal for my morning meal.

I paired the leftover cold oatmeal with a cup of Greek yogurt and a sliced Gala apple.

Oats, Apples & Yogurt - Oh My!

The thick yogurt paired perfectly with the pillowy texture of the cold oatmeal and the sweet crunch of the autumn apple.

An Apple a Day...

...Keeps the Doctor Away

This breakfast was pretty darn filling!

It was great post-workout fuel after an awesome BodyPump class this morning.

Question of the Morning

If you had to plan a honeymoon in 48 hours, where is the first place you would look to visit?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I think I would research some places in Canada first. There’s a ton of great resorts and since it’s not too, too far away I know it’s a little more affordable. Although it would be awesome to plan a trip to Greece or Italy — I’m such a planner that I would have seriouse anxiety going on a massive trip like that without it being planned out.

Maybe it’ll be super romantic that way though?? Good Luck!!!

What about Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket? You’ll still get the island feel, there won’t be threat of hurricane’s, and you’ll probably be able to get great deals since they’re just past their peak season. I have always wanted to go to one of those islands in the fall; it must be SO relaxing. And they have GREAT restaurants! A flight from Orlando to Boston isn’t too pricey, and then you could get a rental car to Cape Cod and hop on the ferry.

48 hours! that will make it exciting! I might lean towards a cruise or something fairly domestic to keep it simple. Italy would be amazing, but it could be really stressful to pull that together in 2 days.
My husband and I actually got married in Italy this past May and it was great. If you are looking for something with culture, great food and really awesome beaches you might want to look into the Amalfi Coast. We stayed in Positano and I would reccomend our hotel 100%. The rates were pretty good considering all rooms have a balcony with an ocean view! Staff was amazing and the town was so picture perfect.

We stayed at the Epic hotel in Miami, it was wonderful…. but I guess you are from Florida, so that wouldn’t be so exciting! Another nice Floridian spot is Cheeca Lodge- way down south. Check out La Jolla, CA the weather is perfect there.

While I love NYC, I wouldn’t recommend to travel there this weekend. I noticed it was mentioned before that the marathon is this weekend and majority of hotels are booked (and have been for months). The wineries on Long Island are nice, but I am not sure it is still the season. If you were to travel to NYC I would wait a few weeks til they started getting into Holiday Gear. It is a sight to see.

Since you had your heart set on an Island Vacation – did you research Aruba? It is below the hurricane belt (even though it is almost out of the stormy season) It is one place I really want to travel and haven’t gotten the chance too, but I have heard amazing reviews of it. I would also look into possible Mexico – Riveria Maya or Playa del Carmen. They have great resorts and if you inform them of your honeymoon disaster, I am sure they would be very welcoming to help you out.

I hope it all works out for you both.

See if you have any family who has vacation homes or condos in locations you haven’t been for a while. I have an aunt with a house on Lake Michigan that they only use the month of July, so I get it whenever I want the rest of the year. You never know who may have something open and awesome. In the long run, you just need a place to sleep and hang out, since you are just going to spend all your time enjoying each other.

I’m partial to puerto rico since that’s where I’m from and I would die to stay at the new “w” but I would just stick w the island theme even if it wasn’t pr. Obviously there was a vision that you guys had for your honeymoon of warm caribbean beaches in the middle of fall and going to an island will make for a smoother transitions all the outfits the mood everything you had planned can stay the same and I guess for me it would be a lot less stressful to stay at least within the same “island” theme in the midst of a sudden change 🙂

    Aspen, Colorado.

Or somewhere with mountains, cabins, hiking, good food.

You and your hubby can rent a little cabin with nothing but a cozy atmosphere, fire place, board games, food and little hikes!

I just got back from Charleston and it was great! If you are looking for something in North Carolina Mountains I recommend staying at the High Hampton Inn in Cashiers. A very rustic, upscale resort close to Asheville. I also have used Jetsetter.com to look for deals.

Getting away to a cabin/lodge in the mountains would be a nice getaway last minute!

Next year we are having our wedding in August and since we live in Canada where the winters are insanely cold… we are going to wait to take our actual honeymoon until February/March and go to Antigua! After our wedding though, we’re going to have a little honeymoon and go to the mountains or stay a week at my parents cabin (on a lake 🙂 ).

It’s always nice to getaway and Tyler (my guy) and I always have a rule that no cell phones are allowed, we just focus on eachother when we go away!

Good luck & I know youll find something amazing!

We just returned a week ago from our honeymoon. Part of it was in Italy. We had an amazing time and I just saw Delta has cheap airfare to Rome and Venice. The weather was perfect when we were there.Venice is a little cold in the evenings right now but Rome is low 70s during the day and low 50s at night.

First off, congratulations to you and Ryan! It sounds like it was a wonderful wedding! 🙂

Planning last minute is tough! I LOVE LOVE LOVE italy…I lived there and would highly recommend it. I would not, however, go on two days notice. It’s a vacation that deserves to be planned well so you really get to experience all the things it has to offer.

Personally, on short notice, I’d probably choose Napa. I’d also highly recommend Boston/New England. It’s not a tropical island here at all, but the fall is gorgeous. The city is small and manageable, and places like Maine and the Cape are only a short drive away. We went to Maine on our honeymoon and absolutely loved it. Like I said, it’s not a tropical island, but it would be a nice get away from Florida! (and I can recommend great places to stay and visit!)

Best of luck with the planning!

If you’re seriously considering Italy, we went to Rome for our honeymoon, and it was amazing. We stayed at a 5 star modern hotel, but because it’s not directly in the middle of the city, we were able to find a great deal. It was probably about a 15 minute walk to the center. Check it out: http://www.stgeorgehotel.it/. Let me know if you have any Rome questions, and good luck!

Ittaly is great—love it there as well. Although, it seems hard to plan a trip in two days to Italy.

I’d prob go to Colorado in the mountains. Stay in a cozy little ski town, get a room with a fireplace and cozy up together.

If you go with italy – i would suggest not going to rome, its a great city, but it always ends up being a very stressfull city to get around and a heavily educational trip. A much better place to bring kids to years later!

venice and florence, or even greece are beautiful though

I’m from Charleston too! Amanda @ My Switch to Scrubs and I are friends and we recommend that you do nottttttt stay on Folly beach. It’s sorta cute, but not for a honeymoon. Downtown Charleston has a lot of gorgeous inns, tons of great restaurants, and beautiful historical sights. Plus, we’re right over the bridge in Mt P if you need ideas/get bored, hahaha. Yeah right. Last January my boyfriend and I went to Charleston for a quick getaway and we both fell in love with the city! It was our first time there and we stayed at the French Quarter Inn (http://www.fqicharleston.com/) which we absolutely loved! They have a number of complimentary amenities including champagne at check in, a wine and cheese reception each evening, and cookies and milk at night. We only stayed for 4 days but were able to pack in a trip to Folly Beach, a run over the Ravenel bridge, a trip to Sullivan’s island, and a fun pub tour– not to mention some of the most amazing meals at the local restaurants! It really depends on what you both are looking for but I thought I would share as we had a fantastic and very memorable trip!

I just sent you an email about a travel site that might help you plan a last-minute honeymoon.

Also, I went to Paris & Italy for my honeymoon, and I LOVED both! I’m not sure how long you’d be going, but there is a TON to do in Paris… you could spend weeks there and not get to everything in the city!

I also LOOOOOVED Italy. We went to Venice, the Almafi coast, and Rome. The Almafi Coast was my favorite. We stayed in Sorrento (loved it!), but next time I would stay on the Isle of Capri… it’s such a romantic and beautiful part of Italy

If you decide to go to Italy or Paris, let me know and I’ll shoot you an email with my thoughts of what to do in those cities!!!!

BEST OF LUCK… and remember… it doesn’t matter where you go. All that matters is that you and Ryan are married, and you are going to celebrate your marriage as husband and wife. The location doesn’t really matter. And although I’m sure it is upsetting, you guys will look back on this and laugh, so try not to let it get to you too much!!!!!!!!!!

I think a cruise would be a great option since you guys probably wouldn’t need plane tickets!! But NYC is also an amazing option…there’s so much to do, so much to eat, and this time of year here is great because it’s not super gross and hot, but not freezing either. Good luck with your search!!
