48 Hours to Plan a Honeymoon

November 3, 2010 by Julie 176 Comments

Last week all I could think about was our wedding. This week, all I can think about is our currently non-existent honeymoon. Ryan and I have faith that we’ll come up with something magical within the next day or two!

Today I will be researching:

  • Cruises
  • Charleston, South Carolina
  • North Carolina mountain getaways
  • Puerto Rico
  • New York
  • Italy (???)

As always, I’m definitely open to suggestions! I’ve already checked out a bunch of the hotels you guys told me about in the comments section of my post last night and a bunch of them look amazing!

We are planning to postpone our St. Lucia trip until next year. We were really looking forward to visiting the island and still hope to make it out there within a year… Perhaps for our one-year anniversary? 😀

Until then it’s crunch time to find a replacement honeymoon in 48 hours. Ready? Go!

Breakfast

It’s been a while since I’ve busted out cold oatmeal for breakfast! Last night I enjoyed a small bowl of oats after dinner as my evening snack and saved the remaining oatmeal for my morning meal.

I paired the leftover cold oatmeal with a cup of Greek yogurt and a sliced Gala apple.

Oats, Apples & Yogurt - Oh My!

The thick yogurt paired perfectly with the pillowy texture of the cold oatmeal and the sweet crunch of the autumn apple.

An Apple a Day...

...Keeps the Doctor Away

This breakfast was pretty darn filling!

It was great post-workout fuel after an awesome BodyPump class this morning.

Question of the Morning

If you had to plan a honeymoon in 48 hours, where is the first place you would look to visit?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I went to Charleston this summer and loved it. I also hear Savannah is lovely so maybe you guys could do a combo of the two?

If I had to plan a honeymoon in 48 hours, I’d check out San Fransisco or Venice Italy (if you want something a little further). Always wanted to go to San Fran. I went to Venice in college and it is to this date the most amazing place I have been. Super romantic, tons of great food, and just out of this world.

    Good luck!!!

Well, it depends on how much money you want to spend, but if you’re OK with going all-out, I’d say Paris, Venice, or Prague. All are the most romantic cities I’ve ever been to, and Prague in particular surprised me with how gorgeous it is.

Oh dear. My vote is for either of the Carolinas (though I am a bit biased). Also, look into the Outer Banks of NC. It’s a really lovely place (that will undoubtedly have lower rates since it’s the off-season), with plenty to explore. A very relaxing, romantic place.
I wish you tons of luck.

Good luck!!! I’m sure whatever you decide you will have a fabulous time because you are MARRIED! 🙂 Europe is always a good choice. California wineries could also be a lot of fun. I once did a road trip from orlando to savannah, charleston, and asheville (NC). It was an awesome time and a fun way to see a little bit of everything. Whatever you do just enjoy and try not to stress. 🙂

Mexico is super cheap and very beautiful!!! Also, San Francisco would be a better honeymoon spot than NY because it is much more charming and romantic, and you could spend part of it up in GORGEOUS Napa staying in a cute B&B, walking around vineyards, and drinking wine and going to the spa all day long!!!

if I had to plan a vacation in 48hrs I would look at:

Cruises, b/c it invovles 0 planning and maybe you will happen upon one leaving a nearby port SOON!

    Mexico – all inclusive

    Dominican Republic – all inclusive

    Bermuda

or someplace local in the USofA

I wouldnt be trying to plan a European vacation in 48hrs, but that’s just me…..

I highly recommend Charleston, SC. I had that as territory when I was in retail construction and even flew my hubby in for weekend. We stayed at the Residence Inn as I got a great rate and had everything I needed to spend days at time there. Church street in is supposed to be amazing. The carriage ride with mules and the unbelievable historical date the guides know(and locals) is unheard of.

second on list for me is Bowing Rock, NC-it is up in hills and just gorgeous. Great resorts up there, too. Blue Ridge Mts…oooo

Whatever you do will be great! ENJOY!!!

    Breakfast looks yummy!

If I only had 48 hours to plan a honeymoon I’d go to Las Vegas! The rates are cheap right now and there is so much to do. Gamble, see the shows, walk the strip, go to the spa, romantic dinners, shopping etc. The Bellagio is BEAUTIFUL. I know it is not a beach or something tropical, but Las Vegas is kind of fun for a Honeymoon, especially if you’ve never been there before.

At this point, I think your best bet is anywhere you can RELAX and get to relatively easily after all this madness. Cruises are always fun and pretty easy to figure out since its basically all inclusive. I love Charleston too!

Congratulations on your wedding! How about Mexico? The Mayan Rivera is beautiful and hurricane Thomas has been no where near it. I’m actually heading there this weekend. The temperature report looks just perfect for poolside all inclusive drinks and lounging on the beach with a romantic beachside dinner. Looking forward to hearing what you choose!

Personally, I am a beach girl so my first thought is Hawaii. That would be an expensive trip with only 48 hours to plan but what about something on the west coast so it is a bit more of a get-away

    Hey Julie,

I live in NYC at the moment, and while it’s beautiful in the fall, I have to admit that it’s been pretty cold the past couple of weeks. If that doesn’t turn you off, you can always find something to do here, though I can’t imagine it would be the most relaxing honeymoon (although the marathon is this Sunday!).

Being from NC myself, I really recommend going for either Asheville, NC (go to the Biltmore Inn and stay at The Grove Park Inn… beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!). NC mountains are GORGEOUS this time of year.

If you want to go for the beachy vibe, I vote Charleston all the way! There’s so much history and culture, great food, and nice people there!

Good luck with your planning, and congratulations on the wedding!

My husband & I went to Antigua sandals and it was amazing. I’d highly recommend it. The all inclusive aspect is AMAZING!! We are in SFL so it was a quick flight. However, Atlantis in the Bahamas is gorgeous too. With such little time to plan, I’d look into all inclusives. All you do is eat, drink, lay around and enjoy one another 🙂

Hey Julie! First of all, I really enjoy reading your blog!! I’m happy your wedding was such a success and I don’t normally comment on these things but i have quite a bit of insight for you:

First, I studied abroad in Italy in the spring (I’m at Auburn now), in Rome, and I have a bit of advice: If you’re wanting to go to Rome, a Bed and Breakfast is a really good choice. When my mom came to see me, we found her a room in Trastevere (right over the Tiber from all the big stuff) at the San Francesco. Venere.com is an amazing site to find last minute deals. And in the off season, these places usually have trouble filling up, so you can find some great stuff. If you’re still thinking Italy, I think you and Ryan would LOVE Cinque Terre. It’s Italian for “Five Lands” and you stay in any one of the five towns and you can hike between them. It’s not terribly strenuous but really fun and SO gorgeous. Some of the accommodations there are less fancy, but I found from study abroad that staying someplace with less frills allows you to really see more of the place you’re visiting. One more thing about Italy, if you’re interested in Tuscany, when my boyfriend came to visit me, I took him on a birthday trip to a vineyard called Castello di Selvole. They have tons of adorable rooms and it’s such a nice getaway. I have pictures of all of these places if you’re interested. You can e-mail me!

Also, I’m from South Carolina originally, and Charleston is SUCH a cute place, but it’s getting a little cold there. So, if you’re wanting beach, it might be chilly. That said, it’s amazing there and there is SO much to do. Since I’m from upstate Carolina, I’ve also spent a lot of time in Asheville/Black Mountain area. The Grove Park Inn is a really nice place to stay in Asheville. Plus the town itself has DELICIOUS restaurants and a really neat art scene. It’s small, though, but the hotel is reallllly nice. If you’re there, make sure you see the Biltmore house!

Still, I think you can definitely find amazing places all over Italy for good prices. If you end up there, I have a zillion restaurant suggestions for you!

Hope this helps. Good luck girl. 🙂

    Hilary

    Hi Julie,
I’ve been lurking for a bit and felt the need to step out of the woodwork and comment.

So sorry about your honeymoon. You know what they say about the best laid plans.

I didn’t take the time read all the other comments so this may be a moot point. My choices for a last minute vacation would be eastern europe, specifically Croatia. Maybe South America, Belize is beautiful. Or as a Canadian, what about a resort in the rockies. I spent some time at one a couple of years (the name of which eludes me so sorry) but it was a four day blissful break. I rode horses, hiked, ate delicious food, read and partaked in some of the wonderful spa services available.

    Best of luck.

Me and my husband just got back from a vacation in California. If you want to relax and get out of dodge for a while I recommend Santa Barbara, Big Sur. Also Savannah, GA is a fun town with a lot or a little to do, depending on what you’re in the mood for. Lots of places you can walk to, great food and a relaxing southern town. This happened to us when we planned our honey moon, when the whole swine flu thing broke out. Luckily I had a bit more time to change from Mexico to the Dominican Republic. Good luck!

Italy without a doubt – that’s where we’re heading in late winter. … If you ever get to Florence, you HAVE to stay in Soggiorno Battistero (http://www.soggiornobattistero.it/) right next to the Duomo and run by the most wonderful couple. GOOD LUCK – it’ll all work out.

Depending on your budget, Italy last minute could be tough. Although I’d definitely recommend it as a place to go! I loved it and convinced my fiancee to make it part of our honeymoon (we’re doing a European cruise). Places in/near the U.S. are probably easier to get last minute though. California can be a lot of fun especially if you do wine country (or so I hear). New York is fantastic. Lots of great shows. Awesome food. I have family there so I could give recommendations. It’s also pretty easy to get last minute trips to Mexico. Whatever you choose, good luck!

Definitely go with a cruise! They are so much fun and all the planning is done for you. There are activities every day and all night long. Plus you will get to see a few different destinations each time your ship docks. Your meals and activites are right there at your fingertips and you won’t have to do research on best restaurants and activities or worry about doing something that is a flop! Best of luck!!!

Honestly, I would go somewhere that you wouldn’t normally get a chance to go to. I would for sure look at going over seas. We are going to India for our honeymoon b/c we know that kids are right around the corner. We won’t be able to go somewhere extreme like India until our kids are grown and we are retired. Do something adventurous!

Stay at one of the beautiful hotels on the Upper West Side and you’ll be surrounded by clubs, bars, and restaurants galore! I know places with to-die-for food so if you decide on NYC then I’ll give you some recommendations!

Definitely somewhere within the US…I would NOT want to plan an international vacation in 2 days! Maybe California. I had friends who couldn’t go on their honeymoon to Jamaica because the groom’s passport didn’t come in time. They went to the Smokey Mtns and stayed in a cabin. If you’ve never been there, they have a few of the adventuresome things you and Ryan were wanting to do. My sister and I went ziplining there (it was a blast!) and they have rafting and all sorts of other stuff too.
