Tuesday in September: Picture an Hour

Hey friends! It feels like a hot second since I’ve hopped on here and just shared a day-in-the-life style blog post with you guys. I snapped enough pictures to do just that yesterday so let’s dive into what Tuesday looked like over here with one picture per hour!

Morning

6:15 a.m. Quick clean-up + Laundry

Monday night is a later night in our house due to soccer so I awoke on Tuesday to a bit of a mess. The state of our house was driving me crazy so I neglected my usual work time and spent the first 45 minutes of my day cleaning, unloading the dishwasher and folding and sorting laundry. I swear this time of year the number of piles of laundry are at their peak in our house because we need fall clothes to start the day but by the afternoon it feels like summer. It’s the time of year we’re washing sweatshirts and sweatpants alongside swimsuits.

7:30 a.m. Workout

Once  all the boys were up, dressed and fed, it was time for a workout! Ryder wanted to join me yesterday and ended up hoping on and off the treadmill for 25 minutes while I took myself through a biceps, triceps and back workout. (Chase and Ryder’s school had a teacher work day yesterday so they were home from school all day.) Ryder had the best time on the treadmill I swear the way kids look at movement as something FUN is the best inspiration. I’ve long said that if you’re doing an exercise you hate as your primary workout, switch it up because there are so many different ways to move and challenge your body in ways you actually enjoy. For me, strength training has my heart!

8:30 a.m. Shower + Get Dressed + Dinner Prep

After my workout, it was time for a quick shower and a little dinner prep (marinating some chicken) and then we were off to preschool drop off!

9:15 a.m. Preschool Drop-Off

All three boys joined me for Rhett’s preschool drop-off, fueled by a vanilla matcha protein latte in an open mug. Until I can find my unicorn coffee mug (16+ ounces + ceramic interior — not coated/lined!!!, unbreakable when dropped, a lid you can sip out of or use a straw, a handle + cup-holder friendly), I’ll be free muggin’ it in my car like it’s hot.

10:30 a.m. Trampoline Park + Work Time

It’s wild to me how quick the next phase of motherhood pops up. Yesterday I was able to get two solid hours of work done while the big kids played at our local trampoline park. When you have toddlers and little ones at home, this phase of life feels so incredibly far away most days but it truly does come up much faster than I could’ve imagined. Chase and Ryder were in heaven because I upgraded our normal trampoline park membership passes to give them access to the zipline and ropes course as a treat on their day off. A win for all of us!

Afternoon + Evening

12:50 p.m. Ice Cream Truck Fun at Rhett’s Preschool

The big kids majorly lucked out with their school’s teacher work day coinciding with a visit from the ice cream truck at Rhett’s preschool pick-up! A lot of older kids came since so many were out of school yesterday for teacher work days and Rosh Hashanah (Happy New Year to my Jewish friends celebrating!) and we enjoyed some ice cream and playground time with friends before heading home.

1:45 p.m.

Ryan was home sick yesterday (he’s mostly okay at this point but actually got Covid over the weekend), and once we made it back home, Chase, Ryder and I ate a late lunch (Rhett eats lunch at preschool) and then the boys wanted some free play time at home. I took advantage of having another adult in the house with the boys and got Pepper out on a 2-mile walk which felt like such a treat for me!

2:50 p.m. Karate

Tuesdays are a karate day in our house (even Rhett is signed up now!) so we headed off to the martial arts studio in the middle of the afternoon!

4:30 p.m. Outside Playtime

Yesterday was a gorgeous sunny day so we couldn’t resist spending most of our evening outside once we were back home. We checked on our garden, picked one of the last bell peppers of the season, played baseball in the backyard and enjoyed the warm-but-not-too-hot temperatures.

5:30 p.m. Dinner

Dinner last night looked like marinated chicken cooked in the air fryer (400 degrees for around 14 minutes), roasted rosemary potatoes leftover from the weekend and a simple caesar salad.

6 p.m. More Outside Playtime + Shower Time

After dinner, the boys wanted a little more outside time, so we headed back out before it was time for showers, jammies and the usual bedtime routine. (Our pickleball net was a Christmas gift for the boys last year and gets a TON of use!)

7:30 p.m. Bed Time Stories

A little after 7 p.m., we made our way upstairs for the boys’ bedtime stories. Rhett is all-in on the Mercy Watson series (he thinks they’re hilarious) while Chase and Ryder are still completely enamored with Land of Stories (we’re on book 2)! Ryder is considering dressing up as Froggy from Land of Stories for Halloween. We’ll see if he changes his mind by October 31 because this is the time of year we hear a million different costume ideas before they settle on “the one.”

8:30 p.m. Quick Clean Up + Reading in Bed

Once all the boys were settled in bed, it was time for our usual evening clean up followed by reading time in bed for me and Ryan. I’m a little more than halfway through Great Big Beautiful Life and am enjoying it a lot! It’s been an easy, breezy romance read but with some intrigue sprinkled in the mix, too.

As for today, plans are all over the place. We have school for all the boys, a Blessing of the Backpacks ceremony at the preschool this morning, my first mammogram (!!!) and piano for the big kids so I need to sign off and get this day started. I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!

    Julie, I’m with you on the unicorn coffee mug! May I introduce you to this beauty☺️ It’s glass, not ceramic…but it is oh so good! I use it everyday in and out of the car…no metal taste, durable, dishwasher friendly, hot/cold friendly, sturdy lid, car cup holder friendly, it is truly great!
