Furry Navigator

January 28, 2011 by Julie 41 Comments

After work today I loaded up my car and hit the road for St. Pete. drive home 004I threw my weekend duffel bag, Sadie’s food, two bags of random items/clothes for Good Will and two warm jackets in the backseat.

In the passenger’s seat sat my furry navigator. drive home 003drive home 001drive home 002Thank goodness I already knew my way, because whenever I’d ask Sadie where I should turn, she would just wag her tail and try to climb in my lap.

Some navigator, huh?

Sadie is actually my exact opposite when it comes to being the passenger on long car rides. Riding in a car for more than 40 minutes puts me in an almost hypnotic state and I pass out and can sleep without a problem.

Sadie, on the other hand, thinks it is her job to stare down every single car that drives by.

Luckily traffic wasn’t too bad and we made it to my parents’ house in less than two hours.

My family and I spent the evening catching up around the dinner table.

Homemade lasagna was served.drive home 008

I didn’t want to keep whipping out my camera, but I honestly think I had four times that serving size… maybe five? I’m a sucker for cheese and noodles as it is, but when it’s my mom’s homemade lasagna, I can’t resist.

Dessert was a large bowl of peppermint ice cream.

Home = Comfort food to the max!

I think Sadie was feeling awfully comfortable at my parent’s’ house, too.drive home 011She loved cuddlin’ up to Mr. Bob! (My dad is “Mr. Bob” to Sadie because he’s not quite ready to be “Grandpa” just yet. Winking smile You should know that my mom happily refers to herself as Sadie’s “grandmama.” I love it.)

And now it’s time to get some rest. It feels so, so good to be home. (I haven’t been home since Christmas!) I miss my family so much and can never stay away too long!

Goodnight!

It’s amazing how Sadie isn’t at the wheel in the car 😀 I always thought driving with animals is an impossible mission.
Enjoy the time with your parents!

Aw I love going home to visit my parents, and it looks like you do too! 🙂

Oh and my Dad just got remarried, and my stepmom has grandbabies already and he almost had a heart attack when he was first called “Grandpa Harry”! He’s okay with it now, as long as the grandchild in question does not belong to me (yet)!

Lasagna is the ultimate comfort food. Enjoy time with your family! As much as I love living in California, I miss my parents back in Nebraska. I’m jealous of people who live close to their relatives!

    Hey Julie!

Sadie looks so adorable propped on Mr. Bob’s lap! Haha.

I think it would be really great for you to do a post on living far from your family (why you decided to move, the pros/cons, etc.). What do you think?

    Love,
    Heather

can you expand on this idea a bit? i’m not sure exactly what you’re looking for. i moved to FL with my family right after i graduated high school (of course i wanted to, but also, if i didn’t. at 18 i also would’ve been homeless!).

Awww Mr. Bob. My brother and his wife have the dinkiest little dog known to man (it weighs 5 pounds fully grown) and you should see my dad sitting on the floor cuddling with it. He loves being a dog grandpa.

Your comment about your dad being Mr. Bob reminds me of my grandfather who was also named Bob. I don’t think he cared what he was called, but my brother (the first grandchild in the family) started calling him “Daddy Bob” because everyone either called him Daddy (my mom and our aunts/uncles) or Bob (everyone else). It stuck and his friends even started calling him Daddy Bob! Just an idea… maybe your dad will like it better than a granddad-type title.

Aww…I’m glad your family is close and that you can visit them fairly often. My mom always makes her famous lasagna when my sister and I are home. She made up the recipe all by herself and it’s pretty unconventional, but it’s so delicious. YUM! Have fun with the fam!!

I used to hate going home (I was the “too cool for home” college student my first 2 years of college), but now I love it. I think that now that I’m 2 years into college, it doesn’t bother me anymore. 😀

I love doggy passengers! Reddick is the best and does the same exact thing. The other day he stared down a cop…who didn’t really look too pleased that my dog was in the front seat without his seatbelt, but I mean, come on, he couldn’t be mad for that long. Reddick’s face will warm anyone’s heart. haha
