Blazing Sun and a Dead iPod

September 1, 2011 by Julie 76 Comments

I opted out of a 5 a.m. workout this morning because I wanted to run outside and I don’t feel comfortable running around our new hometown before sunrise just yet. Once I know the lay of the land a little better this may change, but I’m all about safety first and figured a run once the sun was up was a smarter idea.

Unfortunately waiting for the sun to rise also meant more intense heat. Since I ate breakfast around 7:30 a.m., I wanted to give myself a few hours to digest so I wouldn’t cramp up on my run and didn’t head out until 10 a.m.

My plan to run five miles with Sadie quickly changed when I realized there was no shade on my running path and my iPod died one mile in.

Blazing sun + No distracting music = Subpar run

Sadie and I ran 3.5 miles before walking to complete slightly more than 4 miles.

When we arrived home, I gulped tons of water.

Phew.

Lunch

Lunch was a remix of yesterday’s dinner.

I used my semi-homemade marinara meat sauce to make a wrap which I served with carrot slices and Babybel cheese.

I know this may sound odd, but I love cold spaghetti sauce. I guess that’s probably not too surprising since I’m also a huge fan of cold oatmeal.

September

After I published my morning blog post, I realized it was September 1. I love the start of a new month because it seems like there is always something to look forward every month.

This month I am excited to…

  • Head to Orlando for a special birthday celebration
  • Start officially training for the Savannah Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon
  • Decorate our new house and buy a flippin’ couch!

Question of the Afternoon

  • What are you most looking forward to in September?

I still don’t feel comfortable running around my neighborhood before daylight. I’m near a downtown area and at 5, there are still people out from the night before. Not my idea of a fun time! In fact, I rarely run near my place at all which is a bummer.

Sudden absence of music totally kills my motivation too! Dead headphones are usually the offender during my workouts though. I don’t know how, but i keep breaking the right ear bud on every pair I buy.

In September I’m looking forward to good hiking weather, bringing oatmeal back and starting to search for my new apartment with my boyfriend. We’re moving in together November 1 🙂

Dead iPods are the worst! It can ruin the best of workouts.

September means starting school again! I’m super excited to follow my dreams and start culinary school. And I don’t care that I may be the oldest freshman. It also means investigating my new home. I haven’t even lived here a week, so I know there’s a lot more to this state to see.

I am excited to celebrate my 6 year anniversary with my honey and have all of his surprises revealed to me 🙂

I tried a run outside the other, same thing happened. It is just too darn hot for runs outside in FL. I can’t wait for Fall to actually arrive!

Oh, I am also excited for fall baking recipes. I LOVE fall!
