Baby Gators

May 18, 2012 by Julie 57 Comments

Tonight Ryan, Sadie and I are heading to Jacksonville (<— super old post!) to spend the weekend with friends. I’m really looking forward to a fun barbeque tomorrow and time at the beach!

We’ll be making the two-hour drive to Jacksonville once my sister arrives in town and Ryan gets off work. Gotta love carpooling!

Since Sadie likely won’t get her evening walk, I decided to make her morning walk a little longer than usual and took her on an hour-long trek after breakfast.

Hikes in Ocala are never dull. Look at the little guys we saw today!

Baby alligators!

We almost didn’t see the three baby gators, but I decided to walk to the end of the one side of a long dock that I normally skip and I’m glad I did! No mama gator was in sight and we went along our merry way unscathed.

When I returned home, it was back to work before taking a break around noon to make myself a smoothie.

Lunch

Ryan and I didn’t stock up on a ton of food for this week since we knew we weren’t going to be here this weekend, so there wasn’t much to work with when lunchtime rolled around.

I ended up making a filling smoothie because we did have food in the freezer!

smoothie

Into the blender went:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter (<— best part!)
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 large handful fresh spinach

I also polished off the remaining watermelon we had in the fridge.

Back to work before packing up and heading out!

Any fun plans this weekend? Feel free to share!

And remember, no plans are often the best plans.

Just ask Sadie.

I don’t think I’d ever become accustomed to seeing alligators outside of a zoo! Sounds like a fun weekend ahead. Mine involves a lunch date and catch-up session with one of my besties, a long run (hopefully, if my ankle cooperates) and lots of relaxing, Sadie-style. 😉

Wow I couldn’t imagine getting to see critters like that out on walks. All we get here are bunnies, raccoons and cyotes lol
I’m spending my long weekend planting away in my garden. Up here in Ontario we’re pretty safe from overnight frost so I always use this May long weekend to get the gardens all planted.
    Enjoy your weekend!

I’m heading to Athens tonight for a concert with my boyman and then tomorrow we’ll be back here for a brunch date with his mom and a double date later to a soccer game with two of our best friends! Sunday I have no plans and hope to emulate Sadie in that picture for most of the day 😉

Speaking of gators…I’m visiting my dad who lives in TX near an old cypress swamp/lake (Caddo). He wants to take us gator watching tomorrow night w a friend of his who does so professionally.

I learned two things: 1) my dad is crazy and 2) his friends are equally so.
