Bacon Cheeseburger: Healthified

July 7, 2010 by Julie 29 Comments

As usual, the first half of our evening was spent entertaining the dog.

Smiling Sadie

I spent a good 30 minutes in the backyard playing fetch with Sadie before Ryan got home from work.

Playtime

Once Ryan got home, we leashed Sadie up for a 2.5 mile walk around the neighborhood.

All three of us were super hot on this walk. Holy humidity! Sadie’s tongue practically touched the ground about five minutes into the trek.

Dinner

On the menu tonight was bacon and Asiago cheeseburgers with roasted cauliflower.

Ryan tended to the grill (he’s the meat man, afterall), while I prepped the condiments and veggies.

Ryan made our burgers with lean ground beef and we topped them with MorningStar Farms veggie bacon strips, ketchup, mustard, relish, spinach, grape tomato slices and Connoisseur Asiago cheese spread.

Bacon Cheeseburger: Healthified

Who knew a bacon cheeseburger could actually be healthy?

This meal tasted indulgent, but consisted of fresh veggies, lean meats and whole grains. Score!

I’m off to hang with Ryan and his cousin for a bit and watch So You Think You Can Dance (dance, dance, dance…). 😀

See ya in the mornin’!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I love making healthy versions of burgers! It always feels like a small victory against restaurant chains that have 1500+ calorie burgers on the menu.

Hi! I have been researching a good running companion, I have a few questions for you about Ms. Sadie. Do you crate her? If so how long? Like do you let her out at lunch? Is she hyper in the house? I’m so nervous about getting a big dog with lots of energy. Thanks so much!

we don’t crate her & i used to go home at lunch to let her out until she was around 1 yr. old, which i really think helped w/ potty training. now she’s totally fine on her own while we’re at work, though oftentimes we’ll come home to find all of her toys all over the apt! she’s SUPER hyper in the house. if you’re concerned about a high-energy dog, vizslas are definitely among the craziest – but they’re the BEST!!! 🙂 (this youtube video spells it out pretty well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSm5-e7uga4 )

I didn’t like that bacon when I tried it, but you are making me want to give it a sceond chance.

And FYI, Amy’s All American burger, (vegetarian,) tastes very, very similiar to a regular burger. When I top it with all the fixin’s I can’t tell the difference. In case you want to try it, I have only been able to find it at Whole Foods. You probably have different grocery stores though so maybe one of them would carry it.

ahh – thanks. We are always looking for new dog toys! We use tennis balls for fetch, but our dogs pop them really quickly if we let them chew.
