BarkBox Giveaway

June 24, 2014 by Julie 1,105 Comments

I know a bunch of you out there are just as dog-obsessed as I am and this is just one of the many reasons I think you guys are the jam. Dogs are the BEST and I never could have imagined just how much joy and laughter Sadie would bring into my life everyday when Ryan and I first picked up our timid little puppy. (Timid? Oh how times have changed.)

When BarkBox reached out to me to see if my crazy dog would want to try out one of their boxes, I thought it would be a neat way to indulge Sadie a bit with some new treats and toys. Sadie is the kind of dog that basically pees herself over a brand new stick, so I could only imagine how thrilled she would be if she got a package in the mail filled with new treats and toys just for her.

Happy Sadie

So what is BarkBox?

BarkBox is a monthly box filled with treats, toys and goodies for your dog that is delivered right to your door. Each box contains four to six full-size products, with goodies ranging from creative toys and gadgets to all-natural, healthy treats and more.

BarkBox

Any edible products found in a BarkBox do not include formaldehyde and are made with minimal processing, no glycerin whenever possible, organic ingredients whenever possible and are gluten, soy, corn and filler-free whenever possible. Subscribers can also opt for an allergy-friendly BarkBox for dogs that may be sensitive to beef, chicken, turkey, gluten, wheat, soy and corn. (Users will just need to email support@barkbox.com once they’ve purchased their subscription to get added to the allergy box list.)

The toys and treats are almost always sourced from small local vendors that are not easily found in major pet stores and plans tailored to your dog’s size start as low as $18/month.

BarkBox Sizes

Sadie’s first BarkBox included the following goodies:

BarkBox

  1. Barkworthies Junior Bully Sticks
  2. Harry Barket Tug n’ Toss Toy
  3. Complete Natural Nutrition Cheese Please Snacks
  4. Baker’s Best Salmon Maple Glaze Treats

Her favorite treat was definitely the Cheese Please snacks!

BarkBox Cheese Please

She gave me the pitiful puppy eyes the minute she caught a whiff after I opened the bag!

Begging Dog

The sole ingredient in the treat is cheese, so I knew Sadie would flip for the cheesy little discs when I opened the package. (She’s a cheese lover just like her mama.)

She also had a blast playing with the Tug n’ Toss toy and threw it all around our apartment trying to entice us into a game of tug of war. (It totally worked because we are suckers.)

BarkBox Toy

The treat I wasn’t sure Sadie would like in the box was the Baker’s Best salmon maple teats because at first glance they looked like biscuits. Sadie doesn’t like biscuits and typically gravitates toward meat and cheese-based treats, so I didn’t think the salmon treats would go over well, but she flipped for them!!

Salmond Treats

She couldn’t get enough!

Now it’s time for a giveaway!

One PBF reader will win a free six-month subscription to BarkBox!

To enter this giveaway, please leave a comment below answering one (or both) of the following questions:

  • What was the first trick you taught your dog?
  • What is one trick your dog could never quite master?

I will randomly select a giveaway winner on Friday morning. Please note that this giveaway is open to readers in the US and Canada only. You must have a US or Canada shipping address to receive a BarkBox. If you would like to try BarkBox for your pup, BarkBox is also offering 10 percent off to all PBF readers if you click this link. Good luck!!!

Our dog’s first “big” trick was the “bang bang” trick. We would act like we’re shooting her and she would fall to the floor on her side.

The trick that she never quite mastered was “roll over” – she just tends to lay on her side and go around in circles.

Whether she does a trick right or wrong, we still love her to death:)

I have a 15 wk old Great Dane puppy and his first trick was “paw”! We think he picked up quicker than “sit” because his paws are absolutely humongous.

Chewie, my pug, learned to sit, and while he does know how to lie down, he refuses to do it unless he feels like it. He’s stubborn so we quickly gave up on teaching him tricks.

The first trick I taught our rescued horrible hound that I’m not sure he knew before was to “touch” – I hold out a hand, say “touch,” and he has to come over and touch his nose to my palm. The one trick that Abe hasn’t ever gotten is rolling over. After weeks of work, he’ll roll over onto his back so I can scratch his belly, but he won’t roll all the way over to his other side. He used to absolutely hate being on his back at all, so at least it’s progress!

Alfie has always been a fast learner, so I taught him “sit” the very first day we brought him home at 12 weeks (we were his THIRD home!). He’s always had a bit of a bossy attidute, and perhaps that’s why he’s been shuffeled around?

He’s going on 5 years old in October (omg getting grey hairs already. Little old man!), but we have kept him in obedience school for 3 out of the 5 years, and he has never mastered “stand”. Not that it truly matters, because he’s got all the other ones down pat. That is, until he sees someone other than Scott & I. Then he loses his sh&t and freaks out at the other person lol 🙁

I have two babies, that I taught to sit, of course they caught on to that. And I think that’s all they listen too. Stay and Speak, never work. But they are the best.

I can’t exactly answer the question directly because I haven’t taught my dog any tricks in the two years I have had her, lol. She will give up on just about any training session because she would rather have you pet her. I, admittedly, am a sucker for that nose and those eyes, so I give in too. Lucky for me, when I adopted her, she already knew the basics: sit, stay, come, etc. I have kind of taught her to lay down, but that one is day-to-day. I hope that doesn’t disqualify me from the bark box! 🙂

In other news, that Sadie’s puppy eyes are the cutest thing I’ve seen all day (well, next to my Libby’s puppy eyes, of course).

The first trick I taught my Boston terrier Chloe was sit (pretty standard).

We tried to teach her the “teddy bear”, where they kind of squat on their hindquarters with their body erect, but she never could balance.

We rescued our dog from the pound when she was 2 and I was so lucky that she came “pre-trained”. She can shake, sit, high five, the works. HOWEVER we never mastered roll over. She completes me though and I got her in a point in my life where I had just lost my best friend to a motorcycle accident, and she just filled that hole in my heart. I can not imagine my life with out her!

We just picked up our sweet girl two weeks ago. Her first trick is to “find her baby” – a stuffed animal that she is attached to. We are trying to teach fetch with it. She can’t get “sit”, since she was hit by a car before we adopted her she has a lot of hip issues and it takes her a great deal of effort to sit. I wish she could sit because it would be easier to get her harness on and off when we come in for walks. But she will lay down with no problem!

When I adopted Cinnamon, he already knew sit, stay and lie down. So I was pretty lucky! He is smart though so I wanted to teach him more…the first trick I actually taught him was rollover. Now when he wants a treat, he does his whole repoitre thinking “one of these tricks is bound to get me that treat!” 🙂

My pups, Suzanne and Anderson, are 2.5 years old. I got them when they were 8 weeks old. The learned “sit” and “let’s go out” fairly quickly, but to this day we cannot master a “shake”. They just get too excited and can’t control themselves.
They are spoiled rotten, and I love them to pieces. My babies….

This is the best giveaway! I’ve SO been wanting to subscribe for a long time!

The first “trick” I taught Rusty was to heel and walk nicely on a leash. He was a rescue that had no prior training and pulled like a freaking sled dog! I used the clicker training method and brought little pieces of hot dog (his favorite). He is an all star walker now!

The trick he has trouble with is high five, especially when he is really excited. He’ll throw one paw at me and then the other paw over and over until I stop him and calm him down. He looks like a little party animal! It’s actually pretty cute 🙂

Ohh Man!! This giveaway is RIGHT up my alley! I’ve been trying to convince my husband to splurge on a BarkBox Since I first heard of them

Our dog Hank is a Boxer/American bulldog-80 solid pounds of pure love. We first taught him how to ‘shake a paw’ which then turned into ‘high five!’ (say it in the Borat voice and it is even funnier)

He is the WORST (due to his breed) at FETCH!!!! He literally steals the ball and then decides to lie down and chew on it until it is destroyed…..

Great giveaway!!! And finally one I can enter (yaaah Canada!)
