Calm Before the Storm

August 22, 2013 by Julie 64 Comments

The calm before the storm.

I just love it.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved the rain. Maybe it’s because I’m an April baby? Rain soothes me and relaxes me and makes me want to curl up under the covers with a good book.

Today’s storm rolled in as I was teaching water fitness. We lucked out and made it through the entire class without hearing any thunder or seeing any lightning, but about five minutes after the class concluded, the dark clouds opened up and it started pouring. It rains pretty much ever single day in the summer in Florida, but the storms usually only last an hour or two. Today’s storm seems to be holding on for a little longer than usual which has Sadie in a tizzy.

My poor little scaredy dog.

Work today went well and I spent an hour or so with my boss learning how to teach spinning. I may be picking up some spin classes in the future and would like to take a full-day certification course, but going over the basics today was helpful.

Lunch

At lunchtime today, I quickly ran to Subway and ordered a chopped club salad that I ate with a bag of harvest cheddar Sun Chips.

photo (50)

I’ve always preferred sweet over salty and have never been a huge chip person (unless you put salsa or guacamole in front of me), but cheddar Sun Chips are a weakness of mine! My friend Kristen used to pack them in her lunch in elementary school and I remember trading her something from my lunch so I could have her chips on several occasions. They take me back!

Time to do a load of laundry. It’s Friiiday tomorrow!

Question of the Afternoon

  • When it comes to snacks, do you prefer sweet or salty foods?

I’m a sweets girl all the way!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I haven’t been eating many chips lately but cheddar Sunchips sound deeeelish right now! I go back and forth between sweet and salty. After I eat something salty/savory, I usually like to follow it up with something sweet.

YES! I totally agree with you on the chips thing. I’m not typically a chips person, but those Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips get me every doggone time! 😉

Very exciting that you could be teaching spin! I’d love to teach a spin class someday.

    Harvest Cheddar are the best!

Salty most of the time, but sour-sweet (like sour candies) is a great treat too!

80% of the time, I’m a sweet girl, but sometimes you just gotta have that salt! Have you tried cheddar popchips, cheddar Special K chips, or “cheesy” kale chips? All good alternatives that will satisfy the cheesy, salty craving when you just can’t shake it!

Oooh tough choice!!! It totally depends on my mood I’d say. BUT, one of my favorite ways to kill two birds with one stone are pretzel rolos 🙂 Just on a cookie sheet lay out a bunch of mini pretzals or pretzal squares, then melt a rolo on top of each in the oven for like 5 minutes, then put a pecan on top right of the chocolate right when they come out of the oven. HEAVEN, and you’ve taken care of your salty AND sweet craving 🙂

I have never liked rolos, but I tried this snack one day without knowing the chocolate part was rolos, and OH MY GOD! Delicious! I’ve never made them, but you make it sound so easy that I might have to!

I definitely usually prefer sweet foods as well! In particular, I prefer sweet breakfasts. I rarely have things like eggs or sausage for breakfast–I save those for lunch 🙂
What I find funny about Florida rain is when you’re driving on the highway, there can be torrents for a couple minutes, and then absolutely no rain the next few minutes. And the cycle repeats over and over, haha.
