Completely Enthralled

December 20, 2011 by Julie 63 Comments

Wanna know how you know when you’re completely enthralled with a book?

When you have to get out of the house and leave the book behind to resist the temptation to drop everything and read.

Take me to Starbucks and get me away from The Violets of March!

The book was calling to me to abandon my projects and simply read the day away, so I called Ryan after lunch and convinced him to meet me at Starbucks for a quick midday date and brought my laptop to get to work after we enjoyed our festive beverages.

Peppermint mocha for me, chai crème Frappuccino for Ryan!

Doesn’t he look all Christmasy in his red polo?

Lunch

Before our date, I made myself a cheesy quesadilla with onion and kidney beans.

bean and cheese quesadilla

I’m trying to use up everything in the fridge before we head to our parents’ houses for Christmas and this quesadilla incorporated some cheese and onions on the verge of death. Expect some random meals in the near future, my friends.

Question of the Afternoon

  • What was the last book that completely captivated you?

The last book that completely sucked me in was Divergent. If you liked The Hunger Games, you need to read Divergent!

P.S. The Fashion page was updated today.

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Currently I’m enthralled with Sybil Exposed – nonfiction about the famous multiple personality case. The last one was Mindy Kaling’s book – so hilarious!

I LOVE Violets of March! I read it in two days. I couldn’t put it down. I’ve shared it with my friends. Another really good book is Exposure by Theresa Fowler. It’s loosely based on the Fowler’s real life experience. I didn’t care for the ending but loved the book!

I love the read, so I’m always getting caught up in a book – the most recent one was Jo Nesbo’s first book (I can’t remember the name). I read it in one sitting!

When I read Escape (a memoir from Carolyn Jessop about leaving the FLDS community), I was so enthralled that I took a half-day from work to come home and finish it!

I just finished “A Season in Hell” – about two Canadian diplomats kidnapped by Al Qaeda in Niger in 2008. Couldn’t put it down! The book came out a couple months ago and it is amazing how many details the author – Robert Fowler – could recall. Anyone interested in international politics should read this.
Also recently finished “Best Laid Plans” which was extremely witty and smartly written. If you’re a (Canadian) politics junkie and want to be entertained by a fictional account of a federal election, this book is for you! And there is a hovercraft in it. Hovercraft = awesome.
Off to get Violets of March from the library – will be my Christmas holiday reading!

    2. The last books that I read that kept me from being productive were the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin (1st book is Game of Thrones). They are soooo good, you will not be able to get things done because you will need to know what is happening in The Realm.

“The Leftovers” by Tom Perrotta… it focuses on one town as they deal with The Rapture (yes, as predicted in the Bible!) I read it for my book club — it was so good! This is the same guy who wrote “Little Children” and “Election” and he sticks to his theme of twisted suburbia with a dark sense of humor. I definitely recommend it!

Unforunately, I really didn’t enjoy Violets of March – which is funny because everyone in the blog world seems to LOVE it. Sometimes I think whether you like a book or not depends on where you are, if you have time to get really into it, if there’s stress in your life, etc. OK enough rambling!
