Cooked Gnocchi > Raw Gnocchi

April 20, 2011 by Julie 63 Comments

Hey there, gnocchi!

I nabbed this pack of Gia Russa whole wheat gnocchi made with sweet potato at the grocery store on Sunday and was so excited to try it that I cut open the pack on Sunday night to try a raw one.

Bad idea.

Raw gnocchi is freakin’ nasty!

Fortunately cooked gnocchi is delicious… though this particular pack had kind of a weird aftertaste.

I cooked the whole wheat gnocchi while roasting cauliflower and broccoli to served with the dumplings.

Once everything was ready, I topped it all off with marinara sauce and a generous sprinkle of parmesan cheese.

I loved the doughy texture of the gnocchi but am not sure I’d buy this brand again because of the odd aftertaste.

Almost Easter

Before signing off for the night, can I get three cheers for only two days remaining in the work week? I am so looking forward to Easter and seeing my family and Ryan’s family. I feel like it has been forever since we’ve seen everyone!

We’re spending Easter at Ryan’s mom’s house and are planning on helping his mom prepare a delicious brunch. In case you are looking for a fun Easter dish to make this weekend, I highly recommend baking a bunny cake!

Not only are they delicious, but they’re festive and adorable!

Here are two options that my mom, sister and I made last year…

Option One:

bunny-cake-026

Option Two:

bunny1

And now I want cake. Hmph.

Only a couple more days until I welcome sweets back into my life! This whole yogurt for dessert thing is getting o-l-d.

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I’m obsessed with sweet potatoes AND gnocchi (i’m half italian, after all!) but i HATED that gnocchi! I bought it a few weeks ago and threw over half of it away. 🙁 Maybe I got a bad batch. LOL

Agree, raw gnocchi is super gross. Had gnocchi for the first time in Italy. My friend had ordered it because it’s her fave but when my tortellini came out with meat in it she traded with me because she’s awesome. I’ve been meaning to make some homemade gnocchi for a while now. Im working on being less intimidated by making my own food.

What sweet treat would you say you are looking forward to the most when you break lent? If I had the will power you do (I certainly do not) the first thing I would have is a brownie with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sprinkles on top 😀 (my favorite dessert!)

My fiance’ wants to “pre-game” for Easter morning by eating sweets at 12:01 the night before! =)

Congrats on sticking with it, I know it was tough for me to give up sugar but got progressively less tempting as time went on. I’m hoping I can pratice more moderation after this experience!
