Ryan and I made it safely to Ocala this morning.
Hello palm trees!
We ended up spending the night at my parents’ place in Jacksonville to break up the eight-hour drive and were grateful for a comfy bed and yummy snacks upon our arrival.
My mom and dad have graciously volunteered to watch Sadie while we deal with moving which will be so, so nice. Ryan and I always joke that Sadie has to meet someone three times before she falls head over heels in love with them, so a bunch of new people in “her house” wandering in and out would seriously stress her out. She’ll be quite happy playing on the beach and soaking up some quality time with my parents. I’m pretty sure she body slammed them 10 times last night when she saw them after several months away!
Since I am currently blogging from the parking lot of a Burger King (heeey free wifi!) and need to get back to the house to help with the move, I’m just popping in this morning to share a giveaway I think my fellow smoothie and juice lovers will enjoy.
Tina, the blogger behind Carrots ‘n’ Cake, recently released her second book, PTV: The Part-Time Vegetarian Smoothies and Juices.
Tina’s blog was actually the first blog I read and the way I first discovered the crazy world of blogging. Fast forward a few years and I started my own blog and have had the pleasure of hanging out with Tina many times. I now feel fortunate to consider her a good friend!
(Someone please get me a hairbrush, STAT.)
I know how hard she worked on this book – creating and taste-testing 140+ smoothie and juice recipes in less than two months is no joke – and was thrilled when a copy showed up on my doorstep early last week. I’ve had the chance to try a handful of her smoothies (Ryan has made a few, too!) and every single one has tasted delicious.
As you guys know, I make smoothies all the time and before flipping through Tina’s book, I felt like I had made tons of different flavor combinations. Well, Tina put me to shame and introduced me to smoothies using ingredients I never would have thought to include in one of my favorite breakfast staples, such as frozen butternut squash, jalapeños and sweet potatoes.
The smoothie you guys may have seen on the blog yesterday was actually made by following Tina’s recipe for her Creamy Avocado Smoothie, which she said I could share with you today!
Creamy Avocado Smoothie

- 1/2 avocado, peeled and pitted
- 1 1/4 cups vanilla almond milk

Spinach, bananas, almond milk & cinnamon always make for a delicious smoothie 🙂
I am all about the bananas and frozen fruits… the colder the better 🙂 I also love to throw a little yogurt in for creaminess!
I love chia seeds in my green smoothies. They make my smoothies extra thick (how I prefer them). Frozen banana and a good protein powder never hurts! Glad to hear y’all made it home safe! Best of luck with your move!
Just like you, I’m a frozen banana and spinach in my smoothie kind of girl. Just about any kind of frozen fruit keeps me happy. Now I’m craving a peach smoothie!
I love almond butter in my smoothies, so yummy!
Frozen bananas, berries, flax or hemp seeds- I accidentally put too many chia seeds in a smoothie earlier this week and it turned more pudding-like than smoothie-like so I ate it with a spoon!
Love using frozen bananas and a little PB2.

I love yogurt, spinach and some combo of fruit.
My favorite smoothie is an oldie-but-a-goodie go-to post-workout treat: Frozen banana, frozen strawberries, chocolate milk, chocolate protein powder and either chia or flax seed tossed in! The frozen banana is key for creaminess!
definitely frozen fruit. sometime my choc protein powder with milk, peanut butter, and frozen bananas to make me think it’s a chocolate peanut butter shake!
Peanut butter must be involved!
With this hot end to summer I’ve been making smoothies everyday! I’m super keen on putting in kale and frozen orange slices!
peanut butter is a MUST for me in all of my smoothies!

I love adding avocados for a creamy effect!
I’m always afraid to experiment with smoothies b/c I am afraid I’ll use something that will throw the entire taste of it off and then I’ll have nothing.
I love frozen bananas and pb!
I’m with you on bananas and spinach! Love the natural sweetness from bananas and I’m all about adding some greens where I can from the spinach!
I always use fruit in my smoothies, because they are so sweet and delicious. In order to sneak some veggies in there, I use spinach – because you can’t taste it, and it keeps you full longer!
I love using any combo of veggies in my smoothie. Whether it’s spinach, kale, avocado…I just love how you can’t even taste it but you know you are getting a healthy serving of veggies 🙂
Basil tastes pretty darn great in a smoothie. I had some fresh basil from a friend’s garden and had a craving for sweets last night (after making your chopped Asian salad!). Frozen strawberries, blueberries, banana, yogurt and a few leaves of basil. Try it sometime. I think you will enjoy it.
Bananas, almond milk and spinach are great bases! Banana plus anything is delicious, spinach is easily hidden by the taste of other flavors, and almond milk is a necessity. Almond Butter can typically be found in my smoothies as well 🙂
I love adding dates to my smoothies! They offer the perfect touch of natural sweetness.
frozen banana, frozen blueberries, spinach, avocado, almond butter, almond milk…plus protein powder if I did a hard workout before! Smoothies are my favorite!
Frozen bananas and almond milk!
Frozen bananas are my standby, but I used beets for the first time every a couple weeks ago. I love the color (my smoothie was BRIGHT pink), the flavor and the health benefits.
Bananas and PB!!
Love smoothies with fresh spinach, orange, frozen berries, avocado and unsweetened vanilla soy milk.
I drink Joe Cross’s Mean Green Juice almost every morning — kale, cucumber, celery, green apple, lemon and ginger. My favorite “indulgent” juice is orange, carrot and sweet potato.
The base of my smoothies always include bananas, almond milk and spinach!
This recipe book sounds so cool! I love throwing in some greek yogurt, blueberries, spinach!
