Ryan and I made it safely to Ocala this morning.
Hello palm trees!
We ended up spending the night at my parents’ place in Jacksonville to break up the eight-hour drive and were grateful for a comfy bed and yummy snacks upon our arrival.
My mom and dad have graciously volunteered to watch Sadie while we deal with moving which will be so, so nice. Ryan and I always joke that Sadie has to meet someone three times before she falls head over heels in love with them, so a bunch of new people in “her house” wandering in and out would seriously stress her out. She’ll be quite happy playing on the beach and soaking up some quality time with my parents. I’m pretty sure she body slammed them 10 times last night when she saw them after several months away!
Since I am currently blogging from the parking lot of a Burger King (heeey free wifi!) and need to get back to the house to help with the move, I’m just popping in this morning to share a giveaway I think my fellow smoothie and juice lovers will enjoy.
Tina, the blogger behind Carrots ‘n’ Cake, recently released her second book, PTV: The Part-Time Vegetarian Smoothies and Juices.
Tina’s blog was actually the first blog I read and the way I first discovered the crazy world of blogging. Fast forward a few years and I started my own blog and have had the pleasure of hanging out with Tina many times. I now feel fortunate to consider her a good friend!
(Someone please get me a hairbrush, STAT.)
I know how hard she worked on this book – creating and taste-testing 140+ smoothie and juice recipes in less than two months is no joke – and was thrilled when a copy showed up on my doorstep early last week. I’ve had the chance to try a handful of her smoothies (Ryan has made a few, too!) and every single one has tasted delicious.
As you guys know, I make smoothies all the time and before flipping through Tina’s book, I felt like I had made tons of different flavor combinations. Well, Tina put me to shame and introduced me to smoothies using ingredients I never would have thought to include in one of my favorite breakfast staples, such as frozen butternut squash, jalapeños and sweet potatoes.
The smoothie you guys may have seen on the blog yesterday was actually made by following Tina’s recipe for her Creamy Avocado Smoothie, which she said I could share with you today!
Creamy Avocado Smoothie

- 1/2 cup frozen chopped spinach
- 1/2 avocado, peeled and pitted
- 1 1/4 cups vanilla almond milk

Here is your chance to win a copy of Tina’s book!
Simply comment on this post telling me about some of your favorite ingredients to use in smoothies or juices you make at home. (I’m all about frozen bananas and fresh spinach!)
I’ll randomly select a winner tomorrow.
Good luck!
I’m basic and love bananas in all my smoothies.
I ALWAYS throw fresh spinach in my smoothies! Right now I am loving the almond/coconut milk blend in my morning smoothies, delish!
Chocolate and Peanut Butter smoothies all the way!
I love smoothies, and I love packing them with strawberries, bananas and spinach. The handful of times I’ve used frozen bananas it always tastes really bland – so I’d love to learn some tricks and new recipes:) I’d also love to purchase a decent blender, I dream of a Vitamix – I only have a magic bullet, and it’s not that great.
Coconut milk has become my go-to substitute for milk/almond milk in smoothies. yum!
I haven’t delved into smoothies too much. This book would be a great introduction! I like to make what I consider a dessert smoothie: 1 frozen banana, 1/2 cup vanilla greek yogurt, 2 T PB2, 1 T cocoa powder, ice and enough almond milk to get everything moving… so delicious!!
I love the combo of spinach/kale, almond milk, peanut butter, and frozen berries!
I love using anything fresh and in season, especially raspberries and peaches right now! And the classic peanut butter, banana, and spinach is a staple in my smoothie repertoire!
Love using either pineapple or mango along with spinach and banana for my green smoothies!
This summer my go to smoothie has been a blend of strawberry, banana, blueberry, acai, honey, almond milk, and protein. So good 🙂
I love adding frozen sweet cherries and whole flax seed! I love the crunch it gives smoothies!
If I’m making a smoothie for myself, I will usually add a banana. My husband is not a fan of that amazing fruit though and I swear he can always detect the taste, so we usually come to an agreement on raspberries 😉
avocado!! makes everything creamy and thick. love it
Frozen banana, almond milk and nut butter are my go-to smoothie ingredients, but I’ve just starting adding dates for extra sweetness! Thanks for doing the giveaway! 🙂
I love berries, bananas and peanut butter and spinach! Yum!
Frozen banana and mango are two of my favorites!
Definately a banana and peanut butter kinda girl 😉
Hands down my favorite ingredient for smoothies is frozen bananas! They add such great flavor and texture. I just got a new Ninja Blender so I would love this book : ) Thanks for the invite!
Berries , almond milk , spinach, chia seeds
I love frozen mango!
Right now I’m loving frozen banana / pineapple / spinach / lemon / coconut water smoothies.
Congrats on the house and good luck with your move!
Thanks so much for hosting this giveaway! My favorites for smoothies are spinach, protein powder (I’m using Vega lately), cherries, and mango. (I prefer to use seedless fruits for my smoothies–for some reason I really dislike all the tiny seeds in from raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, etc. in my smoothie.) Good luck with moving! Hope it goes well!
I always have to have frozen berries/fruit, a banana, almond milk, and usually some kind of green (kale, spinach, chard) plus flax meal and chia seeds! I also like to add other things in that I happen to have on hand, apples, cucumber, grapes, etc. Sometimes I have fun seeing how many fruits and veggies I can add until the blender is full!
I love adding a little bit of vanilla or coconut extract!
I LOVE frozen bananas, peanut butter and greek yogurt in my smoothies!
I love spinach, frozen bananas, almond milk and protein powder 🙂
cookies and cream protein powder + spinach + banana + random fruits. so good!
I can’t have a smoothie without spinach and bananas! I also love peanut butter or coconut for an added flavor boost!
Frozen bananas!
I tend to make the same kind over and over: fresh spinach, frozen banana, almond milk, cacao powder and chia! 🙂 A new recipe book would be nice!
I’m not creative at all with my smoothies, but I love raspberries, bananas and peanut butter!
Putting almond milk in smoothies instead of juice was one of the most genius discoveries I stumbled upon a couple years ago.
Always frozen banana! Plus normally spinach, yoghurt and peanut butter 🙂
I love strawberries, peaches, and bananas!!!
Almost rotten bananas, frozen mangos, Greek yogurt, kale. Yum!
Frozen bananas and chocolate peanut butter!
Pineapple!!! I need to get better at hiding veggies in there…
My smoothie staples are bananas and fresh spinach, but when I want an added protein boost I throw in some chickpeas!
I love adding frozen bananas and frozen berries to smoothies!
