Cry Babies

March 26, 2010 by Julie 20 Comments

Lunch today was tasty!

Friday's Lunch

I incorporated leftovers from last night’s meatloaf dinner into a tasty meatloaf sandwich with roasted red pepper hummus and a side of green beans.

Meatloaf Sandwich + Hummus

I’ve never had a meatloaf sandwich before and it didn’t disappoint!

A Bunch of Cry Babies

Today’s challenge at work: Submit a song to be played throughout the office that makes everyone cry. If you succeed, you win a free lunch.

Sad Bunny

What a nice way to keep the atmosphere light and happy on a Friday, huh?

I submitted “Everybody Hurts” by REM.

The two songs that hit me the hardest were “Secret Garden” by Bruce Springsteen (aka the song from Jerry Maguire) and the acoustic version of “Hanging by a Moment” by Lifehouse. (If you’ve never heard the acoustic version of this song, you have to listen to it!!!)

Other cry-worthy submissions included:

  • “I Want To Know What Love Is” by Foreigner
  • “Colorblind” by the Counting Crows
  • “Tears in Heaven” Eric Clapton
  • “I Will Remember You” Sarah McLachlan
  • “My Immortal” Evanescence

What song makes you cry?

I think the songs that make me tear up have to come on the radio at that perfectly vulnerable moment. Then it feels like the song is meant for you and the waterworks start flowin’.

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

After my last breakup the whole Taylor Swift cd made me cry. I had to change my workout playlist so I wouldn’t burst into tears at the gym.

Two songs that really get me are oldies but goodies: In My Life, by the Beatles, and Old Friends/Book Ends by Simon and Garfunkle– oh man, that second one gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.

The best part about meatloaf is definitely the leftovers 🙂

I agree, when certain songs hit you at certain times – that’s the hardest. I’ll Be by Edwin McCain makes me cry like nothing else because it was my ex and I’s song.

Mine is sorta random, but it’s Daddy’s Hands. It’s an old country sondg and I’m such a daddy’s girl, it makes me cry.

Everything by Lifehouse brings me to tears, as does To Where You Are by Josh Groban. I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith also brings on the waterworks, just because it was me and my ex’s song and I’m sad not about the breakup, but how upset I was following it.

I’ve never had a meatloaf sandwich, but that is a fantastic idea to put hummus on it too! I’ll have to do that next time! 🙂

haha, I’ve got to listen to the acoustic “hanging by the moment”–

but the unusual song that sends the waterworks is the original “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz, before he re-made it. Because it reminds me of this boy I liked, and when he left to Washington, this song played in my car 🙁

I don’t know if anyone will know this song but its “Weak in the knees” by Serena Ryder.
Any fun plans for the weekend?

Oh mannnnnn “I Will Remember You” gets me every time! It reminds me of high school graduation. And another commenter mentioned “Daddy’s Hands,” which is super sad because it was played at one of my friend’s father’s funerals. I teared up just thinking about it! I guess you can say that songs that I associate with sad/monumental events are the ones that elicit the most emotion.

P.S. LOVE that sad bunny! 😀

Meatloaf sandwich? You go, girl! 😀

Office contests sound like a great way to spice up the day! Although, sad song day sounds more like a Monday contest than a Friday contest. I love that list! One song that always makes me cry (out of happiness) is “Goodnight My Angel” by Elton John. Always makes me think of a parent singing to their child – so sweet.

I agree with everyone here- REM definitely! Fade to Black by Metallica (depressing), Everytime by Britney Spears, Let me fall and Remember when it rained by Josh Groban-I listened to that on repeat amongst the hardest lowest times in my life. I saw him in concert 3x and I have to cut off all emotion otherwise I’d fall apart. I love HOME (Buble)! Weak in the knees (serena ryder) is a great song, but I don’t find it depressing/sad. Lots of Beatles songs (let it be, in my life etc)! I know there was one song from the movie SET IT OFF that I found sad as well and 2Pac’s life goes on (but that is just personal connotations to the songs). Definitely Everybody Hurts and Remember When It Rained. The Prayer (Andrea Bocelli) is beautiful!
