Currently: February 2026

February 23, 2026 by Julie Leave a Comment

Hey friends! How are you? How was your weekend? We filled the past few days with lots of time outside — biking on a local greenway to a creek with friends on Saturday and taking the boys and dogs to our favorite local state park for 4 miles of trails and exploring on Sunday! It was exactly what we were craving following such a busy, travel-filled weekend.

Lake Norman state park hike with kids

I’m sitting down at my tablet-turned-laptop set up (still crossing my fingers my real laptop is recovered) and feeling a little chatty this morning, so let’s dive into a “Currently” style blog post since they’re always a fun way to share a hodgepodge of thoughts and updates in a semi-organized way.

Currently: February 2026

  • Currently Listening To

During My Workouts: ATC Around the World (La La La La La) Radio on Pandora. What a bop of a station. It’s so, so energizing to me! Runner up: ‘90s pop. Also a jam!

While I Work: Lately I’ve been oscillating between Bob Seger, Billy Joel, Hamilton, Nathan Evans and ABBA radio stations on Pandora.

With the Kids: Kids Place LIVE. The boys love the Absolutely Mindy morning show on Kids Place LIVE on Sirius XM and we listen to this most mornings on the way to school. She always has fun stories and topics that inspire silly and interesting car conversations.

On Dog Walks/During Chores: Audiobooks! I joke that I can clean the whole house from top to bottom if I have a good audiobook going.

While Making Dinner: SILENCE. This is typically the time of day overstimulation kicks in and silence is golden. Runner up: Michael Buble radio on Pandora if I’m not totally done with all sounds at this point.

Land of stories | Currently: February 2026

By Myself: Three Days in June by Anne Tyler. If you’ve read my book reviews in the past, you know I have a soft spot for socially awkward, quirky main characters (Molly the Maid, Joe Nuthin’, Eleanor Oliphant) and now you can add Gail from Three Days in June to this list. I just started reading this book and already find myself drawn to Gail as she navigates the three days before, during and after daughter’s wedding.

With the Big Kids: Land of Stories (Book 5). I think I’m almost as into this series as Chase and Ryder! It is immensely imaginative, full of adventure, funny and a true joy to read. I’ve heard rumors these books are being made into movies and I’m triple crossing my fingers they do them justice à la the Harry Potter movies.

With Rhett: Rhett absolutely loves Mo Willems’ Elephant & Piggie series so my parents surprised him with a collection of Pigeon books by the same author for Christmas. He loves them and we’ve been reading them on repeat for the past 2 months.

Dog chews for vizsla

All the dog chews and dog entertainment toys! Comet is teething like crazy right now and with three kids in the mix who definitely do not want to be his personal chew toys, we are doing our best to stop him in the act and redirect his chewy habits onto something more appropriate than our hands and fingers. We’ve had the best luck with Dentley’s Prime Slices as they seem to take him the longest to get through, CollaChews and Nature Gnaws Turkey Tendons (both Pepper and Comet flip for these).

Dog treat puzzle | Currently: February 2026

As for dog toys, this dog puzzle treat toy has been a gem! At first Comet had no idea what to do with it, but after one go-around he has it figured out and works hard at opening all the slots to release the treats we hide inside. (Hot tip: Our vet recommended Goldfish and Cheerios as a low-cost easy dog treat.)

  • Currently Watching

As a family: The Winter Olympics! We’ve loved watching a bunch of the events with the boys, especially the highlights from the gold medal women’s and men’s hockey games. Woop!

On my own: A few of my girlfriends highly recommended Palm Royale (AppleTV) to me during our Northern Michigan wedding travels and, after losing my laptop and forgoing any work time on our subsequent plane rides to Vegas and back, I started streaming it from my phone. I wasn’t immediately hooked and I’m still not a super-fan. But it’s entertaining enough and I absolutely love the colorful late 1960s fashion in the show. It’s absolutely gorgeous and half the reason I keep watching.

  • Currently Drinking

All the things! I love a fun beverage and drink a few different beverages daily.

Purity coffee

ALL DAY

Electrolytes: About a year ago, my friend Leah brought a box of LMNT electrolytes on a girls’ trip and I was amazed at how the salty electrolytes made me feel following a day of travel and indulgence. I feel the positive impact of LMNT electrolytes more physically than other electrolytes out there (I also love Ultima and Burn Boot Camp’s electrolytes). And find myself reaching for them above all others. I like the citrus salt, watermelon salt and grapefruit salt flavors best.

MORNING

Whole Milk Latte (with Collagen and Creatine) + Colostrum: I’ve been using Purity coffee for my lattes for years. I have Purity Balance blend on subscribe and save and love that it has 1/3 the caffeine of regular coffee and the quality is incredibly high, both from a flavor and a health perspective. I add collagen and creatine to my coffee, mix it with a handheld frother and then mix it again with hot whole milk I froth up in my SMEG retro frother (the best because it makes hot and cold foam and can also just warm your milk).

When I tell you I go to bed looking forward to this cup of coffee every morning, I mean it. And now that I learned I should not be stirring my ARMRA colostrum into my morning coffee, I just dry scoop it directly into my mouth as I’m making my coffee every morning and it works like a charm. (Code PBFINGERS saves 15% if colostrum is on your radar.)

Matcha Latte: This is my mid-morning drink of choice. I heat up almond milk and then use my handheld frother to mix it with this vanilla matcha protein powder. If you hate matcha, you won’t like this protein powder. But if you’ve always been intrigued my matcha and like earthy/not-too-sweet flavors, it might be worth a try. I LOVE that it’s only sweetened with dates and that the powder has a decent amount of fiber in it, too, as that’s a rarity for protein powders.

AFTERNOON

I flip flop between these two for my afternoon beverage of choice.

Kombucha: My sister got me hooked on afternoon kombucha when she mentioned her attempts at swapping sweet treats in the afternoons with a glass of kombucha. As someone who reaches for something sugary every single afternoon, I figured it was worth a shot. It doesn’t completely replace my craving for something sweet, but it does seem to help a bit with satisfying my desire for a change of flavor after lunch. I buy the big bottles and pour myself a small glass or pour it in a to-go mug and bring it with me for the boys’ afternoon activity circuit.

Yogi Egyptian Licorice Mint Tea: My absolute favorite tea for years and years. (If you’ve ever had the Aveda tea, it’s very similar.) This is one of those teas that smells almost as good as it tastes. It has a unique flavor with the light, refreshing pop of mint and I love it so much. I use my Fellow electric kettle and pour the hot water over a bag of this tea that I take with me on the go.

  • Currently Eating

High protein oat bran

For Breakfast: High protein oat bran. I cannot stop with this one. I’ve always been someone who likes larger portions of food. This meal is voluminous, satisfying and packed with protein (27 grams) and fiber. I like it best topped with sprouted pumpkin seeds, blueberries and cinnamon.

For Snacks: Basil seed pudding (I make it like my blueberry chia pudding but with basil seeds because they thicken faster and have more fiber), ALOHA Bars for on-the-go snacking (I’m still loving the white chocolate peppermint bars I hoarded over the holiday season + oatmeal chocolate chip) and I’ve also been on good old fashioned apple slices with peanut butter and mini chocolate chips kick.

For Lunch: Most of the time I eat leftovers for lunch, but I also love using pre-chopped bagged salads as a base for my lunches and then I doctor them up with various toppings (leftover protein from dinner, nuts, avocado, etc.).

For Dinner: You may see a glimpse of our recent dinners here! I hope to have another one to share with ya next week.

  • Currently Planning

Our big summer family vacation! Now that our youngest child is 5, more extensive travel feels do-able and we’re leaning in! (I realize you can do bigger travel with little ones but it just wasn’t all that appealing to us with naps and toddler fussiness to navigate.) We had the absolute BEST time on our Alaska family vacation last summer. And wanted to do something special with our crew again this year. We did a lot of research and landed on the Azores!

We’ll be taking the boys to São Miguel, an island in the Azores located off Portugal, in early June and cannot wait to fill our days with whale watching (fingers crossed we see the blue whale migration!), visits to hot springs, fishing, hiking and island exploration. If you’ve been to the Azores, I’d be thrilled to read any recommendations you might have for our family!

  • Currently Playing

Card games for kids | Currently: February 2026

Count your chickens board game

All the games! This next phase of parenting/life with slightly older kids is so fun! We are now able to play games that are fun for the whole family (RIP Candy Land). It’s been such a great way to unwind and spend quality time together at the end of the day.

Current favorite card games (biggest hits with Chase and Ryder): Sleeping Queens, Rat-a-Tat Cat, Skip-Bo

Current favorite board games (these are the ones Rhett loves most): Count Your Chickens, Dragon Adventure ( big a hit with all 3 boys!)
