Downtown Antics

January 23, 2011 by Julie 71 Comments

Apparently yesterday slipped away from me!

It quickly went from this…

downtown 002To this…downtown 020Perhaps I should explain?

After a fun afternoon of shopping with my girlfriends, I came home, grabbed a late lunch and headed back out to run some errands with Ryan.

We were on a mission to pick up a whole bunch of obnoxiously pink and girly bachelorette party gear for a bachelor party cruise Ryan will be attending next weekend.

You may remember how Ryan’s bachelor party began… Well, he has similar plans for his best friend Dru.

Another ‘80s night (in place of the cruise’s traditional formal night) will take place on board the ship, causing Ryan to nab this hip lil’’ pair of glasses.downtown 001After we hit up four different stores and had all the pink beads and “girl’s night out” shot glasses we needed, we headed home to relax a bit and eat some food before meeting our friends Daniel, Merri and Lindsay for dinner.

Dinner + Drinks Downtown

Once 8 o’clock came around, we headed out to Heat, a new restaurant-turned-club, that opened last week in downtown Orlando.

Ryan and I arrived first and ordered some drinks while waiting for our friends to arrive. downtown 004Vodka water lime fo’ me! When it comes to drinkin’, I’m a vodka girl through and through.

Soon our friends arrived and we ordered a bunch of the tapas dishes. downtown 005downtown 007I enjoyed parts of a seared tuna salad, BBQ pork and short ribs dish. The short ribs were my favorite of the three, though every single dish was a bit spicy for my liking. I was glad we ate some food before we went!

After dinner, we decided to do an impromptu bar crawl and went hoppin’ from bar to bar, ordering some drinks, dancing and having a good time!downtown 012downtown 013Strawberry vodka + soda water + orange and lime slices = Win!downtown 014downtown 018Why do I feel the need to make obnoxious faces when I have a few cocktails? I have a feeling Janae would appreciate this little habit… Winking smile downtown 009downtown 015After bar hoppin’,the night wasn’t over…

As Ryan and I were heading home, I got the idea to pay a late-night visit to IHOP!

We channeled our inner college kids and hit up the pancake joint for some grub.downtown 021We shared an ice cream sundae (which I dominated), two apple cinnamon pancakes and a plate of scrambled eggs with sausage and bacon. downtown 023We were shocked at how slammed IHOP was around 2 a.m. considering we don’t live in a college town. Apparently people other than college kids hit up this place after midnight regularly. Who knew?

All in all, last night was a blast!

Now I’m off to get some food in mah belly. It’s breakfast time!

Hi Julie! I’ve been an avid reader of your blog for quite a while now, having been introduced to it by my sister. After reading today’s entry however, I felt compelled to comment. The IHOP idea with Ryan was adorable! I love how the simplest of things such as grabbing some late night treats can be the most memorable and even exciting. Also, the fact that you and Ryan read together nearly brought tears to my eyes. Reading is of vast importance to me, and I think it is probably one of the greatest ways of bonding with someone. Thanks for posting these and for allowing me to cherish and focus on the smaller things in life.

Love your top. I need to find something similar. I’m going to the Grace Potter show in a few weeks and she is always wearing a short dress covered sequins and heels at her shows and I want to sort of wear the same thing :o) Did you wear jeans with your top? After wearing such a cute top and everyone noticing it do you ever get weird about wearing it again? I get werid about that espcially if picutres end up on FB…I feel like I can’t wear it again.

i did wear it w/ jeans and black high-heeled booties. it was actually my first time wearing that top, but it was definitely more outside-the-box type clothing item, so i think i would feel funny wearing it again around the same people w/in a month or so, but after that, it will be introduced back into the rotation. 🙂

    Hi!

The cocktail you ordered was with water or club soda? (vodka and lime) I dont like to drink anything carbonated so I am forced to drink liquor with juice when I go out which gets to be filling and calorie heavy! Im always lookign for good ideas for mixers that arent soda so any suggestions you have would be great!!

    Thanks!

my first drink was just vodka with water and a squeeze of lime… the second drink pictured was strawberry vodka & club soda. if you don’t like carbonation, definitely try flavored vodkas with water. i love ’em!

Vodka and sparkling water or vodka and tonic – I love them both equally. I used to use diet coke as a mixer and I’d swear it made my hangovers worse. All that sweetness and bubbles. Yeuurgh!

    P.S. Your top is gorge.
