Face to Face

June 11, 2013 by Julie 135 Comments

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I have the neediest dog in all the land.

photo (2)

Note me. Note my computer. Note my dog.

She always has to be in the middle of the action!

I usually work out of my home office, but for the past few days I’ve felt like changing it up a bit and working from my laptop. This puts me at the mercy of Sadie and her extreme desire for attention.

For example, in the above picture, Sadie was only sweet and docile because I was petting her and talking sweetly to her until I snapped the photo. The minute I started typing up this blog post, Sadie got all huffy and did what we call the “face-to-face” maneuver in our house. It’s pretty self explanatory. Her face has to be on our face. Yes, our faces must be physically touching.

Sadie is not licking us during face-to-face time. She’s just lingering creepily (or sweetly?) as her face rests against our face… following our face with hers, no matter which way we turn.

Sadie absolutely loves to be face-to-face with me, Ryan, our families and a handful of our friends that she knows quite well, but for the longest time I couldn’t figure out why she seemed especially keen on face-to-facing with my sister. Sadie has always been obsessed with Leslie’s face.

A few weeks ago, I put Aquaphor Lip Repair on my lips because they were dry and Sadie’s normal face-to-face tendencies went haywire. She couldn’t get enough of me. She licked my face and when I would turn away, she would turn right along with me. This went on and on.

BINGO!

My sister wears Aquaphor all the time on her lips to keep them soft. Sadie is ridiculously in love with Aquaphor.

dog loves aquaphor

Pet owners, please tell me your pet has an odd affinity toward some kind of lip gloss or lotion that you wear. I fear that Sadie is some kind of a looney. An Aquaphor freak looney.

Lunch

Back to your regularly scheduled programming…

After I was done typing up my morning blog post during my brief break at the gym, I completed a 30 minute workout on the treadmill before it was time to do Day Two of Jess’ Summer Shape Up Program. I completed four rounds of today’s circuit before I had to train a client.

Once my training was done for the day, I ate a quick lunch of tuna salad with a sliced pita, an apple and some almonds at the gym.

IMG_1849 tuna salad lunch

I had about 30 minutes to digest my lunch before it was time for me to teach water fitness. It was hot and sweaty and awesome!

At one point, a bee flew into my ponytail and decided to hang on which completely freaked me out. I shooed it away, but then it came back and wouldn’t let go! I ran over to the lifeguard who helped me get the bee out of my hair as everyone in and around the pool cracked up. It was a sight to see! The bees around our pool are awfully aggressive.

Once I got back home, I took a much-needed shower and fired up the computer to blog and get some work done. And here we are!

Question of the Afternoon

  • Pet owners: Is your pet oddly obsessed with a lotion, chapstick or other product that you occasionally wear?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I absolutely hate bees!! I’ve never been stung (knock on wood) so it makes me even more afraid. My pom isn’t obsessed with any lotions/perfume that I wear. That is probably a good thing, because she is already attached at the hip!

I wear aquaphor occasionally but I don’t think either of my dogs are into it.

That’s too funny about the bee! We had one on our windshield last year that would not let go! My kids were laughing hysterically because it hung on in spite of every stop we made. I had one fly up my nose and sting me a few years ago at the pool. Ouch!

I don’t think Rosie’s obsessed with any product in particular. She seems to think that noses are play things, though, and every time your face is anywhere near hers she will attempt to bite your nose off!

My dog loves to lick my Carmex I wear on my lips sometimes. When he sees me start putting it on, he sits and “begs” for it. He is also very needy and loves to be laying on you…but if you stop petting him, he lets you know by putting his face in your face or nudging your arm until you continue petting him 🙂

My dog is obsessed with the smell of my perfume. Whenever he hears the squirt of the bottle he sticks his nose straight into the air and sniffs as much as he can before sneezing his little head off… it’s pretty cute 🙂

I’m happy to see that my dog isn’t the only dog that does not like his/her owner to work and not give them attention! It is almost impossible for me to work from home because my dog (Kennedy) has to have ALL of my attention, he will put his head on my laptop keyboard or he’ll sit behind me on the couch cushions with his head on mine. It is good to be needed 🙂

I don’t wear lipstick or lip gloss often at home but anytime I do Kennedy loves to sniff my lips. He gets his little face so close to mine just to see what the new stuff is I’m wearing 🙂

My dog is obsessed with Vanilla lotion. This happens to be my favorite but I have to either wear pants immediately after applying (not ideal) or she will lick it off my legs or rub up against them. She’s a black lab so obviously this produces some hairy results and I end up looking like I haven’t shaved in days. Oddly any other scent does not phase her, but I try to tell her I am not food!

My pug loves my Blistex I put on every night before bed. So much that I’ve had to put a dab on my finger and put on his lips to leave me alone. Then he spends the next 20 minutes licking his lips for the barely there Blistex. So funny!

i love how you used your deducive skills to figure out the aquaphor 😉 if i ever take a fitness class, i hope the teacher is as enthusiastic about her teaching as you are! i always wondered if students following their teacher who accidentally did something unplanned (ie swatting a bee away) would actually start swatting imaginary bees away too…

Awww that’s too cute! My dog always used to love my shampoo and anytime I’d have wet hair he’d just rub his nose all over my head. Animals are so funny about certain lotions or scents!

I am not a fan of bees at all! That is the one thing I’m absolutely terrified of haha. It’s a bit ridiculous how much I freak out when one is nearby. My family always makes fun of me for it because I cover my ears and jump around and run away. I cannot imagine having one caught in my ponytail! I’d go crazy!

I have a cat, Theo, who thinks he’s a dog. He’s not obsessed with my lotion or anything, but he loves the smell of my sweaty shoes and socks. I find it totally disgusting that he sniffs my feet and even roll all over my nasty shoes, eventually falling asleep on them. He’s also been known to like me after a sweaty workout. Ew!

Haha! Sadie cracks me up. Our dog Logan has a somewhat similar weird obsession–with licking people’s legs. Especially after we’ve just worked out or something (I think he likes the salt). He’ll just lick and lick and lick, and if we stay in the same place, he’ll literally lay down on the floor and just keep licking. Good thing we love him.

And a bee in your hair! I would’ve freaked out! ahhh

He will hear me open the container in the morning and be right up in my face, grabbing my hand as I’m applying my lotion and makeup to lick it off my face and hand. He’ll even lick the bottles! It makes for quite an interesting makeup application process. The love we have for our pets! 🙂

My dog LOVES the lotion that I use (Clinique and sometimes Neutrogena, she has no preference)! When I open the tube she comes sprinting from across the house and proceeds to lick it off my legs and arms as I am applying it. This can sometimes be adorable, but can also sometimes be dangerous as she weaves in and out of my legs, trying to lick them, as I am walking around.

I have to keep him out of the room when I put it on, otherwise he’ll lick all of it off my hands! It must be because it’s “all natural.” Pointer breeds sure are special doggies!
