Goodbye Gelati

March 3, 2011 by Julie 70 Comments

Today’s after-work plans took me to Maitland, a town north of Orlando, to meet up with two fellow bloggers for gelati from one of my favorite dessert hot spots in the area, Jeremiah’s!

jeremiahs 039

I met up with Katy and Meghann to say goodbye to Meghann before she hightails it out of Orlando and moves to Tampa this weekend. Boo!

jeremiahs 040

It’s hard to believe it has been almost a year since I first met Meghann. Time flies!

I really enjoyed chatting away with Katy and Meghann while wolfing down our deliciously thick and cool desserts.

I ordered a combination of creamy coconut Italian ice with chocolate soft serve and practically licked my cup clean.

jeremiahs 038

Truth be told, I picked up a medium cookies ‘n’ cream gelati (like the one from this weekend) to bring home for Ryan and ate the whole top off of his while I was driving back to our apartment.

I’m a bottomless pit when it comes to soft serve and am convinced I could beat Adam from Man v. Food in an ice cream-eating challenge.

20331

Bring it oooon, Adam.

Speaking of Man v. Food, if Adam were to ever visit Orlando, I would tell him to hit up the following places:

  • Four Rivers Smokehouse for BBQ pulled pork sandwiches
  • Houston’s for a French dip sandwich and a hot fudge sundae
  • The Dessert Lady for a sampler tray of sweet treats

And on that note, it’s time for a late dinner. I’m thinkin’ a pb and j with a crumbled AllieBar sounds good right about now!

Question of the Evening

Where would you tell Adam from Man v. Food to go in your hometown and what would you tell him to order?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

You will probably think I’m a total nerd- but I looked at your link of when you first met Meghann- & it happened to be May 27th, 2010- I was like whoa! Because you said it was almost a year since you first met Meghann…which made my wedding date (May 27th, 2011) seem even closer! Just thought it was kind of cool 🙂

Oh good gracious, I’m originally from Cincinnati, Ohio… so I’d send him to Skyline Chili first.

They seriously have some type of special recipe formula that wreaks havoc on anyone digestive system who is *not* originally from Cinci and used to the stuff….(case in point: my poor boyfriend…) Anywho, I’d tell him to order the 3-way, 4-way, or 5-way with EXTRA extra cheese. (Haaa that sounds kind of dirty… let me explain… a 3-way is the special chili, spaghetti and cheese, a 4-way is the special chili sauce, spaghetti noodles, cheese, and either beans or onions…. and a 5-way is special chili sauce, spaghetti noodles, cheese, beans AND onions.)

Sidenote: Make sure there’s a bathroom close by with lots of toilet paper for non-Cincinnati-natives.

And for dessert… I’d tell him to hop on over to Greaters ice-cream and order three scoops of BlackRaspberry Chip.

Mixing the two is a recipe for disaster…!

I love that question…I recently started watching Man Vs. Food, it is insane how much food he can eat! But I have faith in you Julie, I think you’d school him in an ice cream challenge.

I’m from Red Deer, Alberta, Canada…a town of about 95 000 people. Red Deer has more restaurants per capita than anywhere else in Canada and yet I had a really hard time thinking of somewhere epic to go out. There are tons of great places, but nothing really unique or funky.

I moved to Calgary in the fall for school and I immediately thought of somewhere that Adam should go if he comes here. It’s called Tubby Dog…and it’s this tiny little place downtown that serves hot dogs (obviously), chili, fries, onion rings. I think he would order the Sumo Dog because it has wasabi, pickled ginger and and seaweed. It’s insanely spicy, they don’t skimp on the wasabi. There’s another hot dog that I think suits you perfectly Julie! It’s the PBJ – peanut butter, jelly, and cap n crunch cereal. It sounds weird, but it’s amazing!

I’d tell him to do a Ben & Jerry’s challenge, maybe with Vermont maple syrup drizzled on top. They actually have a “Vermonster” challenge at Ben & Jerry’s made of 40 scoops of ice cream + toppings – I did it with like 8 friends, and it was SO much ice cream.

When Man v. Food came to Cleveland he went to Melt Bar & Grilled. It’s a gourmet grilled cheese and sandwich place. So much cheese. They have the following challenge “Our monster grilled cheese featuring 13 different cheeses, 3 slices of grilled bread and a pile of hand-cut fries & slaw. Over 5lbs of food!!” It is a great place to go and is alway hopping, buuuuut Cleveland is known for corned beef and pirogies. There is a family joint that makes the biggest corned beef sandwiches – I can get three meals out of a HALF order of the sandwich.

I worked at an ice cream place for five years and the question I got asked more than any other was “do you ever get sick of the ice cream?” Umm… no! Never!

To tell you the truth I don’t know of many places I’d tell him to eat in NY! I’m sure there are tons, though. On senior week a few years ago a bunch of my guy friends took the challenge of eating 24″ pizzas in an hour. It was not a pretty ending.

If he ever came to Victoria, British Columbia I would tell him to go to Prima Strata Pizzeria. BEST thin crust wood oven fired pizza in the world. Other than that, John’s Place for good old fashioned diner grub, Pagliacci’s for amazing pasta with the freshest seafood, and Baan Thai…best thai food I’ve ever had! If any of you come here you for sure need to try those places!

But if he ever visits Indiana again. He would for sure have to hit up Dairy Dream in Albany Indiana and try their Superman Icecream (RED, BLUE, and Yellow hand serve)

But what they are famous for is their Cookie Monster Blitz (aka Blizzard) Bits of Chocolate chip cookie dough & crushed Oreo cookies atop our famous Peanut Butter topping…they throw it all in in HUGE chucks

Appetizer choices would either be the Bermuda Triangles or the Mexican Pizza Dip. Entree would be Low Country Shrimp & Grits or Daufuskie Island Shrimp Curry and for dessert, I would probably go with the Chocolate Chip Cookie pie… its worth passing up everything else in the meal just to devour!!

Not sure where I would’ve sent him – I do love the Pancake Pantry and am not sure why it gets so much local hate. I think because it’s a tourist trap? So what? They serve excellent sweet potato pancakes – therefore the Pantry can do no wrong.
