Gratzzi

July 22, 2012 by Julie 26 Comments

Hello and happy Sunday! I hope your weekend is winding down in a fun and relaxing way.

Our Saturday night was filled with food and family.

My parents, sister, sister’s boyfriend, Ryan and I drove to downtown St. Pete for a nice Italian dinner at Gratzzi.

Our meal started with freshly baked bread, olive oil and parmesan cheese.

grazzi 060

Soak it up!

Everyone’s entrees came with a house salad that was fantastic.

grazzi 061

The dressing, tomatoes and olives were very flavorful!

For my main meal I chose the Zuppa de Pesce which was linguini topped with mussels, clams, scallops, calamari, scungilli, fish and marinara sauce.

grazzi 063

My dish was positively packed with seafood which made me very happy!

In case you’re in the dark about scungilli as I was, they are large marine snails that our waiter said resemble conch. The scungilli was chewy and reminded me a lot of calamari.

The pasta itself was very good and I left the restaurant feeling stuffed!

Before calling it a night, we all decided to spend some time at the outside bar at the Vinoy chatting over some drinks.

Another fun Saturday night in St. Pete!

I don’t even know what else is on the menu but I am almost certain that dish would have been my pick too- nothing beats seafood pasta :)!

That seafood looks amazing! I love living in Chicago, but I hate that seafood costs a fortune. Oh what I wouldn’t give to have good seafood here!!

The weird stuff about this post is that my name is Grati, but pronounced like Gratzzi as this restaurant:))) It was funny to see my name as the title of your post today;))

You’re so lucky to have so much fresh seafood! I miss that from when I went to school in Charleston!

Your dinner looks great. I’m wondering what other “grown up kids” do regarding the bill when they go out to dinner in a big group with their parents.

When you go out to dinner with your husband, sister, her boyfriend, and your parents, do your parents always take care of the bill or does Ryan or your sister’s boyfriend every pitch in?

I guess I’m just curious what’s proper etiquette! Thanks!

I was LITERALLY wondering the same thing about who gets the bill (just because you all eat out together so often) but I wasn’t sure if that was rude or not to ask!

Pretty much the best way to eat pasta – topped with copious amounts of seafood.

I’ve never tried scungilli – but if it tastes like calamari I’d be all over it. 🙂

I have to know how you handle the Florida humidity?!
I live in Az and it’s the start of monsoon season so the rain has caused it to be slightly muggy out. This morning at church I was soo sweaty and gross. I was worried my hair would go flat and my makeup would run off! Yet if it was 112 out but dry I’d be A-OK! Haha so the reason why I ask is because my husband is joining the Air Force and we were thinking about putting Florida down as one of the places we’d like to live. However after this morning I’m not sure if I could handle the humidity!!
    I would love your thoughts!
    Thank you 🙂

I’m not a seafood fan, so I’d stick the the bread bowl;)
I’m weird and really like tomato sauce the best, and when I was younger I’d just ask for a bowl of the sauce, no pasts or anything just sauce…with a side of bread.

mmm…I love seafood – though this past month living in Paris (as a pescetarian) has definitely tested my seafood limits.

Did you like the chewy shell things? Do you like escargot? I have such a texture fixation I feel like that would bug me, but maybe the taste is so good it wouldn’t matter. Sure looks good! If nothing else, you can’t go wrong with bread and olive oil, haha.

You look so cute! Your sister too! You guys are always so well-dressed. Super jealous.

I am going to have to trust you on how good the seafood pasta was because I don’t think I would be brave enough to stick it in my mouth, lol! Does it not have a really fishy taste? I like salmon, shrimp, crab, ect but I just cannot get on board with stuff like clams and mussels.

You and your sister looked super cute, as always!!

I love Gratzzis! They have a superb salmon salad. And what do you think of the new Vinoy lounge area outside? The fire pits are so awesome in the winter. Looking forward to some cooler weather!
