Home Office

September 19, 2011 by Julie 177 Comments

Here it is!

washer and dryer 016

My home office!

My office definitely doesn’t have a “designer’s touch” because, let’s face it, I’m no interior designer by any stretch of the imagination, but I am really happy with my new work space.

It’s simple, bright, efficient and it makes me smile.

home office 006

It’s the only room in the house that I felt like I could make as girly and “cluttered” as I wanted to because it’s a space that’s basically all mine since I am the only one who uses it day in and day out for hours on end.

washer and dryer 012

home office 010

Some of my favorite things include…

home office 001

The antique bucket pictured above that came from my grandma’s house, sitting on a yellow dining tray that was a wedding gift from one of my best friends and bridesmaids, Leah. (You may see a recap of her wedding here.)

And this birdcage that served as a card collector on our wedding day!

home office 002

I also love this neat race medal display that I got as a Christmas gift last year.

home office 008

Oh and my desktop background is pretty darn cute, too. Smile

home office 007

The yellow cart to the right of my desk was one of my first DIY home décor projects when I graduated from college. I bought the wooden cart from a garage sale and spray painted it yellow.

home office 013

All of the office furniture is from IKEA, except for my chair, the yellow cart and mini yellow table by the window.

I am using a quilt made of old sorority t-shirts as a chair cushion. The quilt is very similar to the one we gave my friend Leah at her bachelorette party.

Another fun DIY project in my home office is the framed fabric by the bookcase, which I plan to used as a dry erase board with a list of my daily to-dos.

DIY dry erase 003

One guess where I got that idea. Yup, Pinterest. That site is a goldmine, I’m telling you.

The fabric in the frame is actually leftover damask fabric from our wedding escort boards.

Again, it’s definitely not the home office of a design professional by any means, but I know I love seeing the homes of other bloggers and figured you guys might enjoy a sneak peak into my workspace.

The next big project is finishing off our living room!

The yellow accents give is such a great, happy feel. Love it!

I also love how there’s a sentimental touch to many of the things that you have in there. It’s easy to design an office, but it’s always difficult to make it feel like a part of you. Looks like you captured you in your decorating items. Great job!

I love your screen saver! It jumped out at me right away in that first pic! Right now I have an ultrasound pic of our baby girl as my desktop background. No matter how stressful work can get, right when I look at her in the pic I know what’s really important and nothing can get me down! She makes me smile from ear to ear!

The yellow is great! I love it in an office because it makes me more awake, since yellow is such a bright color. The walls in my office are white..and boring..and make me want to fall asleep all day- ha!

I love the space. I moved a year ago and my office is still just a jumble of boxes. My desk is from ikea too… I’ve had it since 5th grade! It’s survived three moves… Whoever said ikea furniture doesn’t last? My desktop background is me and my brother. I am attempting with little success to play his baritone saxophone.

At work, my background is the Old Well at UNC (my alma mater!) and, at home, chances are…. it’s a jellyfish.

Most of the time, I prefer the Jellyfish as the background, generally. A bit obsessed. Love the brightness of the room, I’m actually getting ready to tackle making my former love nest into a space better suited for just MOI since the beau’s getting his education on in Philly. I may or may not have hired a stylish friend to help me gussy things up promising payment in food and beers. Maybe I should start pinning….

I have the apartment to myself now, since my fiance and me started the long long distance thing, so I’ll probably make it as girly as possible, to make me feel happy even when he’s not around.
