Home Office

September 19, 2011 by Julie 177 Comments

Here it is!

washer and dryer 016

My home office!

My office definitely doesn’t have a “designer’s touch” because, let’s face it, I’m no interior designer by any stretch of the imagination, but I am really happy with my new work space.

It’s simple, bright, efficient and it makes me smile.

home office 006

It’s the only room in the house that I felt like I could make as girly and “cluttered” as I wanted to because it’s a space that’s basically all mine since I am the only one who uses it day in and day out for hours on end.

washer and dryer 012

home office 010

Some of my favorite things include…

home office 001

The antique bucket pictured above that came from my grandma’s house, sitting on a yellow dining tray that was a wedding gift from one of my best friends and bridesmaids, Leah. (You may see a recap of her wedding here.)

And this birdcage that served as a card collector on our wedding day!

home office 002

I also love this neat race medal display that I got as a Christmas gift last year.

home office 008

Oh and my desktop background is pretty darn cute, too. Smile

home office 007

The yellow cart to the right of my desk was one of my first DIY home décor projects when I graduated from college. I bought the wooden cart from a garage sale and spray painted it yellow.

home office 013

All of the office furniture is from IKEA, except for my chair, the yellow cart and mini yellow table by the window.

I am using a quilt made of old sorority t-shirts as a chair cushion. The quilt is very similar to the one we gave my friend Leah at her bachelorette party.

Another fun DIY project in my home office is the framed fabric by the bookcase, which I plan to used as a dry erase board with a list of my daily to-dos.

DIY dry erase 003

One guess where I got that idea. Yup, Pinterest. That site is a goldmine, I’m telling you.

The fabric in the frame is actually leftover damask fabric from our wedding escort boards.

Again, it’s definitely not the home office of a design professional by any means, but I know I love seeing the homes of other bloggers and figured you guys might enjoy a sneak peak into my workspace.

The next big project is finishing off our living room!

Last summer my mother and I went on an expedition cruise to the Arctic, and one day on the ship we passed an iceberg with three polar bears – a mama and two cubs. A friend on the ship captured an amazing photo of the bears all looking at us with the ice as a backdrop and I’ve been using it as my desktop background since I got back from the trip!

Your office looks beautiful! And there are definitely a lot of pieces in there that I would pin on Pinterest. 🙂

My desktop background is (“awwwwww”) a photo of my boyfriend and I snapped right after we’d officially graduated (everyone else was busy tossing their caps in the air at this point, but I’m a crazy weirdo and didn’t want to lose “my” hat). We’re both grinning like mad, and my roommate took it with her DSLR so the colors are fantastic. 🙂

i think your office space is really beautiful. i really like the look of clean modern spaces but i don’t think they ever feel comfortable. yours is really the perfect combination of clean and comforting with all the personal touches.

I love the PB Fingers framed poster. If you were to sell those, how much would you ask for them? I will gladly pay for a poster like that. My desktop background is of my dog too. She’s a 12 year old American Eskimo Spitz that thinks she is a puppy.

My desktop at home is a picture of my dad and I on his wedding day. I stood up for him, and my stepbrother stood up for his mom, and it was a small family affair. One of my favorite pictures of my me and my dad:)

At work we have 5 different consoles that we rotate around (I’m a 911 Operator/Dispatcher), so I get to set up a different picture at each console, and it’s usually of my nieces and nephews…I change up the pictures every few months — too many cute one’s to chose from;) lol

Love the room! It looks so functional and yellow is one of my favorite colors. One suggestion… I think you should spray paint your chair yellow. Maybe I’m saying that because I love yellow and spray paint a little too much myself, and maybe I am jealous that you have a home office and I’m still stuck on my couch, hah! Love the board idea from Pintrest! Will definitely be making one for myself, thanks for the idea 🙂

Love your office! The only thing i would suggest is an exercise ball chair (i have a Gaiam one that i love). They’re fun to sit on & they keep your body working, without you even knowing it! (You could use a regular exercise ball, but they’re often too low for working at a standard height desk.)
