Lead Legs

October 18, 2011 by Julie 82 Comments

Apparently I got so wrapped up in this morning’s American Girl talk that I forgot to post about my workout.

Or maybe I intentionally blocked it out of my mind since it wasn’t exactly a pleasurable experience?

phenomenal workout

Today’s workout included a five mile run with Sadie. It was one of those “stop, start” runs thanks to Sadie’s itty bitty bladder, but this time I didn’t mind the breaks.

My legs felt incredibly heavy on my run… lead legs! (I blame yesterday’s intense leg workout.) I kept waiting to get into a running groove, but it never happened, so I just trucked along until I was back home.

I know I’ve said it before, but the weekday runs are definitely my least favorite part of half marathon training. I find them to be so redundant after a while, but they’re a necessary evil for me to feel my best on race day and prevent injury.

I’m already looking forward to my workouts once the half marathon is over! I can’t wait to incorporate more circuit and treadmill workouts back into my routine.

In the meantime I’m in the process of making a new running playlist for Saturday’s long run, so if you have any awesome song recommendations, feel free to share because I’m in the market for some good tunes. I’ll be sure to post my playlist once it’s complied.

Lunch

There’s something so yummy about classic tuna salad… but I think salmon salad may give it a run for its money!

salmon salad 005

I used a pouch of wild caught salmon to make a delicious salmon salad that I served on a whole wheat hot dog bun with an assortment of sides including carrots, pickles, string cheese and Greek yogurt.

I poured the remaining salmon juice from the packet over Sadie’s food which promptly made me her favorite doggie parent for the day.

Booya, Ryan!

Have you ever tried an epsom salt bath after a hard leg workout? I tell all my clients to try it after a hard or intense workout, and at least 80% say it works. The other 20% probably don’t have time to take a bath, but what can you do? Feel better and have a great day.

i need to incorporate those little pouches into my lunches more. at first i was kind of grossed out by the idea of them, but once i tried them i was amazed by how delicious and easy they are! i think i like them better than tuna because it’s less messy/smelly!

Pretty sure ice baths help—but they are horribly cold!! For songs : “Sexy and I Know It”-LMFAO, “Love You Like A Love Song”-Selena Gomes (I know, I am like 12! haha), and anything Britney, Lady Gaga, or Pitbull!

Your lunch looks SO satisfying and delicious!

I usually rely on my Pandora Britney, Katy & Gaga station, but my workout playlist favories are: The Faint “Paranoia Attack”, Paul Simon “Late in the Evening,” and Daft Punk “Harder Better Faster Stronger.” Oh, and Justin Timberlake’s “Damn Girl” because I like to think he’s singing to me! 🙂

Glad to hear that Sadie has issues with running straight (no stopping), too. I was getting so annoyed with April this morning trying to complete my Couch-to-5k workout while she wanted to sniff and mark every 10 feet.

I’m digging “Got My Mind Set On You” and “Hard to Handle” right now. Old school! “GMMSOY” makes me want to put on leg warmers and join a jazzercise class!

    Madeon, Pop Culture.

This 17 year old took 39 different songs and remixed them all together. From what I can tell this mashup isn’t your typical style of workout music, but it is totally worth a listen. Also the video I linked is not the original creators song, but this guy who dances to the whole thing. I don’t think it is possible not to smile while watching this. This video and song makes me happy every time, and for sure motivates me to get moving. I find it great for running.

I always try to not have a leg workout precede a run day because I don’t ever feel like the run is the best it could be. It’s just hard to get the timing right sometimes.

I love salmon salad sandwiches more than I think I do tuna, unless its albacore. Then tuna is on!

I just finished training for a full and i would have died if it was just…go out and run. It was neat to have speed or something else to play with.

Just a thought 🙂 Plus, Jasper loved the change of pace workouts!

That’s why I prefer running in the morning, cause my legs are lighter. And after a long run, if I feel my legs heavy, I tretch, and I pour some cold water over them, from feet to knees to activate circulation. And you feel better.
