Lululemon Love Affair

June 9, 2011 by Julie 147 Comments

My 11 a.m. meeting took me to the Starbucks on Park Avenue where I had the pleasure of meeting with Amanda and Melissa, two lululemon employees.

lululemon 013

Earlier this week, I received an email from Amanda informing me that lululemon is opening a store at Orlando’s Mall at Millenia and she was looking to meet with people in the community to discuss lululemon’s mission and apparel line.

Since I am venturing out on my own into a world of freelance writing and blogging, I am all for taking advantage of any opportunities to meet with people and learn from a successful company like lululemon. I couldn’t wait to meet Amanda. (I actually left our meeting with an idea I can’t wait to share with them!)

We immediately had a lot to talk about, and discussed our shared love of living an active life. The passion both Melissa and Amanda have for lululemon is amazing. How many people do you know who say things like “I never want to work anywhere else” or “my job changed me as a person?” (And I believe them!)

As you may know, I have never personally bought anything from lululemon. While I think their apparel is unbelievably gorgeous and feminine, it has always been a little out of my price range. Everyone I say this to always says the quality and durability of lululemon’s clothing makes every dollar worth it. As someone who has thrown away more than one pair of running capris because of chafing and material that digs, I definitely appreciate apparel that is made well.

I was beyond excited when Amanda suggested leaving Starbucks to visit lululemon’s Winter Park showroom to check out some clothing and do a little fashion show.

Fitness + fashion!?!? Sign me UP.

I had the best time spending a little more than an hour getting to know the employees at the showroom and trying on the various tops and bottoms around the store.

I ended up leaving with a pair of black run inspire crops (shown in the first picture) and a scoop neck tank in the color “surge” thanks to the generosity of Amanda. I can’t wait to put them to the test in the gym. I’ll be sure to post a review for those of you out there who are like me and love the style of lululemon’s apparel but are a little wary due to the price.

Lunch

My stomach started growling during the last half hour of my time at lululemon, so my number one priority when I arrived back home was fixing myself lunch!

onion cheese bagel 003

Today’s meal included a BLT bagelwich… plus cheese, spinach and sauerkraut and a cup of Greek yogurt with honey on the side.

This lunch didn’t come together without some casualties.

Dead Burnt veggie bacon. Ah!

I now have a lot of catching up to do! I was out longer than I anticipated this morning and have a few things that I need to check off my to-do list this afternoon.

See ya fo’ dinn-ah!

I love lululemon. I think there are only like 2 outlets in the states. 1 is 30 minutes from my house. DANGEROUS!

I’m sure you’re probably working on it but something I’d love to see is an archive I could go through. I started reading in November but I would love to read prior to then without having to press “previous page”! Thanks! BTW I love Park avenue in winterpark so many yummy restaurants!

I always go to lululemon.com, pick things then don’t pull the trigger on them. For now, I’m the proud owner of 2 lululemon headbands but one day… I’ll buy some pants, one day!

I’ve lurked for a loooooong time and always too shy to post even though I absolutely love your blog julie! But I feel so passionate about lululemon clothing that I had to add my two cents!

For thoses that feel it’s too expensive, I look at it like this: I would rather own one pair of lulu pants then 5 pairs of crappy 20 dollar workout pants that I know ill be throwing out at some point. My first pair of lulu pants were purchased 7 years ago and they still look new and feel just as good as the first day I put them on! Also, a lot of their pants and leggings are veversible

Also, as a former dancer and someone who likes to do yoga, the reinforced crotch is a godsend! It will never rip! Lol

I wash mine with my regular clothes but always hang or lay to dry and I’ve yet to ruin something from them.

Eeeeee can’t wait to here what you think! Lol

Ohhh lululemon, it’ll getcha eventually! I resisted for a long time, and then caved when I started doing yoga regularly and now that I teach, and get a teacher discount, I frequent the racks at Lulu probably a lil’ too often. And every employee I’ve ever talked to echoes that same sentiment about working there being life changing. Congrats on your first Lululemon wearables 🙂

The Lulemon stuff looks great on you! i used to be hesitant on ‘splashing out’ on gym wear but now the way i see is that:

    a) the gym is something i love and visit regularly so I’ll be getting my money’s worth

b)I’m all for the: “to feel like an athlete, you have to look like one” and who says athletes can’t be cute

c)all hard work deserves some reward, expensive or not 🙂

I buy lululemon as a treat, but I do wish I could afford to buy all my workout clothes there! I bought crops there for hot yoga and they are incredible! The fabric is definitely 1000 times better than my cheap crops!!!

You’re really going to enjoy the pants! I was a lulu hold out for a very long time thinking it was just over priced. Then I bought my first pair to see and as a reward for myself. That was a year and a half ago and gradually I’ve acquired new pieces for a few reasons.

    – amazing quality
    – yes you can get other clothes of the same quality but its usually not as pretty and costs almost exactly the same
    – I live in my workout clothes almost as much as my dress clothes and suits and they’re not super cheap either 😛

    Enjoy!

I LOVE lululemon. I recently just bought a few things there myself and realized I had no idea what I was missing in my life! They have made such a huge difference already.

Have a great weekend in GA!

I just can’t justify those kind of prices! I get that they have good quality, but I can buy workout clothes at Wal-Mart, wear them until they are literally falling apart and then just buy new ones. I can do this about 10 times before reaching the cost of something from lululemon. I love that they love their jobs so much though! That is such an awesome feeling.

Um, how awesome do you look in your Lulu wear? I mean, seriously, anyone who looks that good in leggings is hot! 🙂

Oh, and I echo the others: do not put your Lulu clothes in the drier and do not wash them with anything other than Lululemon clothes! They will pill if you do!.
