PBF Gift Guide 2015: Gifts That Give Back

December 10, 2015 by Julie 17 Comments

Good morning, my friends! Today is a fun one on the blog because we’re diving into my favorite gift guide of the season… My annual Gifts That Give Back Gift Guide!

Gifts That Give Back Gift Ideas

I started featuring this gift guide on the blog a few years ago to highlight companies who make awesome products that give back in some way. It quickly became my favorite gift guide to assemble and I hope you find something fun for someone you love below!

Gifts That Give Back

  • Bombas Socks

bombas socks

I had the pleasure of trying out Bombas socks through the blog earlier this year and quickly fell in love with them. Not only are the socks fantastic but the company is wonderful as well. For every pair of Bombas socks purchased, another pair is donated to people in need of a clean pair of socks. (Socks are apparently the most requested item at clothing shelters.) A lot went into the engineering of the socks to help them stay up, prevent blisters and support the arch of the foot and you can tell! Bombas are honestly my favorite workout socks ever and I have Ryan hooked, too! They’re crazy comfy and hug your foot in all the right places.

  • Akola Bags & Jewelry

Akola Project Clutch Jewelry

Akola means “to work” in Uganda’s Lusoga dialect and the Akola Project is devoted to equipping women with the tools to provide for their families and communities through their own efforts and hard work. The high-quality fashion and home-good products made by the women of the Akola Project have been sold in over 220 boutiques throughout the United States. By providing sustainable skills and reliable income for women, the Akola Project has lifted over 1,400 women and children out of extreme poverty.

  • Happy Blankie

Happy Blankie Elephant

Trademarked by its “one to love, one to give” philosophy, Everything Happy is determined to bring smiles to every child, both locally and worldwide. For every Happy product purchased, another one is given to a child in need. The Happy Blankies made by the company are adorably cozy!

  • FarFetched Apparel and Accessories

FarFetched Apparel

Every sale from Farfetched Apparel helps fund the ever-growing list of animals in need. The company partners with animal rescues and hosts and sponsors events that help all animals, big and small. Plus, their apparel is adorable (and funny!) and sure to make any animal lover smile.

  • S’well Bottles

SWell Bottles

S’well bottles were created out of a mission to rid the world of plastic bottles and were crafted to keep drinks cold for 24 hours and hot for 12! S’well donates a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each bottle to UNICEF to help provide clean drinking water to children around the world.

  • Bravelets: S.A.F.E. St. Kitts

Be Brave Bracelet

Ten dollars from each purchase of an item from the S.A.F.E. St. Kitts Bravelets page is donated to S.A.F.E. St. Kitts, a grassroots, non-profit organization dedicated to helping animals in need on the island of St. Kitts. The organization was started by veterinary students and is supported by the local island community. S.A.F.E. St. Kitts takes in animals in emergent need. They are starving, injured, sick, surrendered or abused and S.A.F.E. provides the animals with the medical care they need to recover. Once rehabilitated, we adopt them to permanent, loving homes.

  • Bears For Humanity

Bears for Humanity

These bears are more than just cuddly and cute! Bears For Humanity teddy bears are made with 100% organic cotton and hemp and for each bear sold, the buyer may choose a charity to send another bear to, such as Toys for Tots, Save the Children, or Expect Miracles Foundation!

Love this list Julie. I have been researching companies like these to use this year. Loving the blankets and the water bottles.

I love it! I work for the Greater Good Network and we have stores full of products which help give back to a variety of charities. It’s really inspiring. Yesterday I bought some gifts for my mom and sister through one of our stores and in turn provided 9 days of education to girls while also buying gifts hand made by woman across the world. It just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

What a great list! More and more for Christmas I’ve been wanting to just give money to charity, so this year I asked my family to just give to their favorite charity instead of give me gifts. I like this idea because it still helps, but they can also get you something! My mom likes to give me something to unwrap, so i think she would love these ideas.

I love this gift guide – genius! So much better than my old traditional gift guides for gals and guys… although I must say that I’m loving those classic guides, as well. I’ll be checking out Bravelets and Akola shortly. 🙂

    Thanks for the tips!

I’ve always been curious about the s’well bottles, but never bought one because of the price. Knowing they can handle both hot and cold liquid AND that they donate to UNICEF definitely made me take another look 🙂 Thanks, Julie!

I love this post! I am a huge fan of volunteering and plan to work in the nonprofit or social responsibility sectors someday (I do a little now in fact). Gifts that give back are wonderful ways to incorporate the giving mindset into our holiday traditions.

Absolutely love your blog! You have a way of suggesting things that are exactly what I’m looking for. I just wish everything was available in Canada!! Just ordered the Boombas socks. Awesome colours and you are both active so if you say they’re good, they must be good! Thanks and happy holidays!

Scentsy always has Cause Products where the proceeds go towards a charity. They currently have a Scentsy Buddy (stuffed animal that comes with replaceable scent pack) that benefits Autism Speaks!

Wanted to pass another great gift that gives back. A friend of mine recently started her own company (Madi Apparel) and for each pair of panties purchased one is donated to a woman in need. Similar to the socks, underwear are at the top of the most need items list at shelters across the nation. Not only do they support a great cause but they are cute & insanely soft!

As a dog lover, you should check out http://jaynieslove.com/. They custom etch wine glasses, candle jars, etc based off a picture of your dog’s paw. They donate a portion of each sale to helping pets’ medical needs. I got one for all my dog mommy friends, and one for myself, for the holidays!
