Preserving Memories with Legacybox (+ a Giveaway!)

January 12, 2016 by Julie 171 Comments

When you become new parents, people inevitably give you tons and tons of advice. Some of it is incredibly valuable and words of wisdom you take with a grain of salt. One piece of advice we received from a bunch of people was to take plenty of videos of Chase.

They told us his first year will pass by in a flash (if the first five months of his life are any indication, this could not be more true) and before you know it, we would have a hard time remembering what his adorable early morning squeaks and coos sound like.

I’m trying my best to stay on top of videoing our baby boy but I already feel like I’ve missed some moments I wish I would’ve captured! I’m beginning to realize that as a mom it’s impossible to take too many pictures or videos of your baby.

I feel lucky that taking short videos of our baby these days is so simple. Since my phone is typically close by at all times, capturing a quick video on my iPhone is a breeze and Ryan and I already have way too much fun looking back over the videos of Chase when he was a newborn and seeing how much he has changed.

My mom was always pretty good about taking videos of our family as my sister and I grew up, but unlike videos today, all of her videos are stored on VHS tapes that take up a ton of space. And guess what? We never watch them because I’m pretty sure no one in my family has had a VHS player for years.

Enter Legacybox!

Legacybox Review

Legacybox is a service that digitally preserves old videos and photos. They can take any format (tapes, film, photos, audio cassettes) and transform them into archival DVDs or optional thumb drives and a fancy schmancy Legacybox for storage.

Legacy box Review

And the process could not be any easier!

Here’s how it works:

  • Purchase a Legacybox and once it arrives in the mail, fill it with your memories. Tapes, photos, etc. Whatever you have, they can make it work!

Legacybox Kit

  • Place the provided barcode stickers on your tapes or onto the outside of a bag if you are sending in photos.

Legacybox Labeling

VHS Tapes for Legacybox

  • When your box is ready, you can simply hand it to your mailman or take it to the post office. Every Legacybox kit comes with a pre-paid shipping label.
  • In a few weeks, your memories will arrive at your doorstep on DVDs or optional thumb drives.

Legacybox Review

Legacybox - Transfer VHS to DVD

(You also receive all of the originals back, just in case you wish to keep them as well.)

I initially wanted to surprise my parents with DVDs of our home movies, but locating their family videos required me actually asking them for their tapes. Even if the end result wasn’t a surprise, I think my parents were still thrilled with the result! The quality was fantastic and all of the DVDs came labeled according to the labeling on the VHS tapes we sent in.

Legacybox DVDs

My mom said she’s planning on utilizing Legacybox to transfer the remainder of her VHS collection to more storage and viewing-friendly DVDs and I’d love to send in some of the old photos I have from when Ryan and I first started dating that were all taken on disposable cameras.

Even though the holidays are over, I think digitizing old photos or videos would be such a wonderful Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day or Father’s Day gift, especially for the “hard to buy for” folks out there!

Legacybox Discount and Giveaway

And now here is your chance to try Legacybox for yourself!

The first 50 PBF readers to order their own Legacybox will receive 40 percent off. Simply click here to get started.

Also, one lucky reader will win a $200 credit toward their Legacybox order. To enter this giveaway, please click here to join the Legacybox mailing list (don’t worry, they won’t be annoying!) and then leave a comment on this blog post to let me know what memories you would love to have Legacybox preserve for you! Do you have some old VHS tapes you’d like converted to DVDs? Is there a stash of old photos in your house you’d love to have digitized? Please let me know!

I will randomly select a winner on Friday.

Good luck!

I have been looking at photo digitization services, but have been reluctant to sign up for one because of the price. This would help me put the family photos in digital format like I’ve been wanting to for months!

Love this! We have so many videos of us growing up: swim meets, backyard parties, holidays! I would be amazing to watch these again, especially since my dad passed away and he was the one who took all the videos. It would be great to hear his voice again!

I’m going to order a box for sure. I’ve heard of this site but getting your recommendation sealed the deal. I’ve got VHS tapes my son sent every 3 months after their first child was born, up through about 3 months into the life of their second daughter. I lived in another state and watched the tapes again and again. Soon after that we all gave up our tape players and I’m so looking forward to seeing the images again. In fact, now that I live close to them, and can watch at their house, I plan to share the DVDs with them just as they shared the original tapes with me.
    I can hardly wait.

I have many memories stored in boxes all over… my basement, my parent’s attic, my old room…after moving so many times in my life, I would love to have a way to condense all my memories in one place so I could have them with me at all times. Such a great idea.

This is amazing! I Legacybox during the holidays but was too late to do anything about it! I would love nothing more than having my wedding video converted into a user-friendly DVD! It’s currently on some small weird tape from an old camcorder and we need 35 cords to actually hook it up to a TV! Thanks!

I would love to do this for my mom for mother’s day. We recently lost our grandmother (and my mom’s mom) and I think if we could document some of our memories in a more accessible format, it might help to bring back her memories and to do so electronically would make it that much easier and special. What a wonderful concept.
