Rain Ain’t So Bad

September 28, 2010 by Julie 45 Comments

Maybe it’s because I was born in April (April showers bring May flowers, after all), but I’ve never minded rainy weather. Something about the pitter patter of rain drops on a rooftop and the cloudy skies make me feel comfortable and relaxed.

Plus, whenever it rains, I get to sing my “Ducks Like Rain” song to Ryan.

article-0-0052158500000258-62_468x544

Ducks like rain,

Ducks like rain,

Ducks like to widdle wobble in the rain

Quack, quack, quack, quack, quack…

(Anyone else know that song? If you’re in the mood to learn this totally fun and 100 percent obnoxious song to sing when it’s rainy outside, click here! )

Though I like the rain, little Miss Sadie does not. When it’s raining outside that means she can’t do any of this…

… and that makes her very frustrated, so she puts all of her energy into annoying me and Ryan. It’s a treat! 😀

Dinner

Since we couldn’t take Sadie on a walk after work today, we enjoyed an early dinner. I prepared broiled salmon and roasted Brussels sprouts (Yes, they actually were Brussels sprouts this time… Great catch last night to quite a few of you!), while Ryan chased Sadie around the apartment.

I really need to take a video of Ryan when he messes with Sadie. They both run circles around this one wall, trying to sneak up on each other. It’s hilarious and Sadie’s getting pretty good at it!

Within 15 minutes our dinner was ready for eatin’.

The fish looks burnt, but it was just really crispy on the top. The fish itself was really tender and moist.

Before broiling the salmon, I seasoned it with a spice blend we received from Ryan’s dad a while ago.

The spiced added a nice sweet flavor to the savory salmon.

Now I’m off to make myself a mug of hot chocolate and do some wedding-related tasks. These wedding to-dos seem to keep piling up! I guess that’s what happens when you’re just about a month out from the big day!

Question of the Evening

I love rainy days… especially when we go so long without them… but I agree, rainy day vizslas are the worst… although I get a pretty good laugh when Koda starts running around in circles like a crazy dog and can’t keep traction and rams into walls… is that mean? It’s not like she gets hurt… 😉

I need to get me some brussels sprouts. Everyone seems to be cooking them these days, and they look delicious. I haven’t made any for years.

I love that song! Will be spending the rest of the night learning it. 🙂 I like the rain once in a while–it’s a great excuse to get cozy on the couch & laze around.

Haha! My husband and our dog do the same thing! They chase each other in circles around the house, from room to room, trying to sneak up on each other. I love to sit back and watch/laugh!

Oh, that seasoning looks like it might be good, especially with five spices mixed together

I can’t believe you know that song!! I taught kindergarten last year, and I sang it with my kids every time it rained. They would put on these awesome yellow slickers and boots and quack along with the song. Such wonderful memories! I love the rain, especially when I’m running. Enjoy your evening!

I love salmon. I could eat that everyday! Do you eat wild? Make sure that you choose wild, not farmed, because farmed is filled with dyes and chemicals! Its really bad!

I love to watch the rain. When I was little, my dad and I would sit in the garage (with the garage door open) and watch the rain storms. Now, I don’t like the rain as much, because it means I have to run on the treadmill that day!

I love rain when I’m inside & love what it does for our trees and lawn but hate being out in the rain. Plus, it can go from rain to flood real quick in Houston.

My husband does the same with our dog. He also hides from him a lot. It’s really funny and cute to see him running all over in search of his Daddy. BTW, I have never had Brussel sprouts before & went searching for some because you make them look SO good! I didn’t have any luck finding it, though. 🙁

I don’t really like the rain, but I’ve learned to not hate it, at least. I live in Vancouver, Canada, where it basically rains every day, so I’ve come to appreciate it a little bit. As long as your are prepared with an umbrella and rain boots, you’re good to go 🙂

Love the rain! It’s a great excuse to be lazy!! When we go for week-long trips to the beach, we always pray for just one rainy day. It makes you feel less guilty for wanting to stay inside and watch movies and stay in your jamis until it’s bedtime again!

Also…I just read your last post with the tuna salad. Have you ever tried replacing the mayo with hummus? It sounds weird, but it adds SO MUCH awesome flavor!!

I sometimes like the rain…when it’s in the summer and it’s warm. My sister and I used to run outside in torrential downpours and get soaking wet…and muddy! Rain in the fall/winter is a huge downer…all that ice and cold…
