Reebok Skyscape: NYC Launch Party

March 13, 2014 by Julie 70 Comments

The following post is sponsored by FitFluential, LLC on behalf of Reebok. All opinions are my own.

Yesterday was one heck of a busy day in New York City, but I enjoyed every minute!

IMG_5606

When my alarm went off in the morning, I quickly changed and got ready to walk to the Reebok Upper East Side FitHub with two of my favorite blogging friends and fellow FitFluential ambassadors, Gina and Heather. After a brief 20-minute walk in the beautiful NYC weather (we totally lucked out and missed the bitter cold!), we arrived at the FitHub and walked inside to find the store completely decked out in pink, soft shades of purple, pretty florals and crystals.

The FitHub was transformed for the Skyscape launch party!

Reebok Skyscape

When Reebok first sent me the Skyscape shoe back in December and asked for my feedback, I told them that the Skyscape quickly became my go-to errand-running shoe. The shoe is made out of foam and the same materials used to make lingerie, so it is incredibly comfortable, lightweight (only five ounces!) and has a more feminine look than a basic athletic gym shoe. It’s also machine washable which I figured might especially interest those of you walking around slushy snow right now!

IMG_5607

(For those who asked via Instagram, this tank top is the Reebok Seasonal Elements Lightweight Tank. I bought it on their website a few weeks ago for $22 and love the flowy look and extra-long length. It comes in three colors.)

During the event, I was asked a few questions about the new shoe and my thoughts about the Skyscape launch event on camera and I’m pretty sure I talked with my hands more than my mouth.

IMG_5650

As I explained to the cameraman, I typically wear my Skyscapes around the town with leggings and a pullover, but I love the way Reebok showed the shoes with different looks during the launch party. I am kind of weird about pairing sneakers with “real” clothes rather than gym clothes but the models wearing the Skyscapes looked adorable in non-gym clothes, too.

I loved the Skyscapes paired with a casual dress and a motorcycle jacket.

IMG_1307

And I had a hard time getting a quality picture of the look on the right below, but it was my favorite.

(Skyscapes with leggings, an oversize beanie, colorful scarf and a plush vest.)

During the launch party, I had a lovely time meeting Roo, the talented writer behind the blog Neon Fresh and loved seeing Jenna again! Quite a few of us spent some time eyeing the new Skyscape colors and patterns on the display wall.

IMG_5588-001

My favorite is the white Skyscape with the light gray stripes. Funky and fun!

Since the launch party took place at a Reebok FitHub, it naturally had to include a workout since Reebok FitHubs are interactive stores that offer group exercise classes in addition to selling Reebok footwear and apparel.

As we took our place on the yoga mats set up for us to use in the center of the room, Mary Helen Bowers joined us to take us through a Ballet Beautiful class.

IMG_1284

I felt very fortunate to have the opportunity to do a quick workout with her since she is one heck of a talented ballerina and instructor! Though the workout was only about 20 minutes long, Mary Helen took us through ballet movements and exercises that reminded me a lot of barre classes. Lots of pulsing and burning!

IMG_5658

Mary Helen Bowers danced with the New York City ballet for 10 years and trained Natalie Portman for her work in Black Swan. Her ballet-inspired workouts are also quite popular with a number of Victoria’s Secret models, including the gorgeous Miranda Kerr, who also happened to be at the event. Miranda did the Ballet Beautiful workout with us and was so engaging and down-to-earth. She interjected her own anecdotes and pointed out that Mary Helen had just given birth to a nearly 10-pound baby only a few months ago. (I stalked Mary Helen’s Instagram account after the event and her pregnant ballet photos are gorgeous.)

We were not allowed to take photos of Miranda without approval, but were given permission to snap one group photo and had the chance to talk with her for five minutes before she had to rush off to Good Morning America.

Our group photo… aka that time I hardcore creeped on Miranda Kerr:

IMG_5662

Some notes from our quick chat with Miranda that I thought might interest you guys:

  • She prefers workouts that don’t feel like a workout like jumping on the rebounder or dancing with her son
  • Pilates, yoga and resistance training (3-4 times a week) are her go-to workouts when she’s not traveling
  • She’s really into body brushing for soft, radiant skin
  • When she travels, she said she’ll do 10-minute plank-based workouts in her hotel room to work the whole body

And a few notes from our chat with Mary Helen Bowers:

  • To see results from her Ballet Beautiful workouts, she recommends completing them at least three times a week
  • It typically takes three weeks to see results following consistent Ballet Beautiful workouts
  • Her healthy living tips include: Make time for yourself and view your workout as a way to pamper yourself and your body. A short, 10-minute workout is more beneficial than nothing. Don’t neglect sleep and make sure to drink a lot of water and eat healthy, balanced meals.

As the Skyscape launch event came to a close, I thanked my friends at Reebok for allowing me the opportunity to travel to New York City to learn more about their latest product. I am so grateful to Reebok for inviting me to the launch and had so much fun exploring the FitHubs, chatting with the incredibly talented Mary Helen Bowers, meeting Miranda Kerr and spending time with some truly wonderful blogging friends. It was a whirlwind trip and I can’t believe I’m already back in Florida. NYC, I miss you already!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I was part of a research group for Reebok and those shoes were one of the shoes they showed! We didn’t really get to try on or workout in them but more for style and looks. Most people in the group didn’t think they would be good for working out so its nice to hear that they are great shoes!

Julie, would you recommend the sneakers for all day walking ( like Disney)? Are they only available at Reebok stores? Although I can’t bring myself to pay full price for anything after having kids lol

Fitness shoes have come a long way in terms of deisgn and fashion. I love that they are so versitle now. Like you mention, you can wear them to the gym or pair them with a weekend wear outfit. I like the pic of the girl in the dress with the pink skyscrape’s. Funny thing is I never think to wear my shoes outside the gym because it’s too hot in AZ. It’s always flats or flip flops.

Ohh I LOVE those shoes! I’m always torn between wearing my Nike workout shoes with casual errand-running outfits like sweats and jeans because I think they look a little off. Love how feminine yet comfy they look!

Can’t wait for more recaps 🙂

    Hi Julie,

What an awesome experience. I’m sure you are aware of this, but as an avid Les Mills BODYPUMP fan, did you know Reebok and Les Mills formed a partnership for branded workout attire?

Since I’m a Les Mills instructor, I was sent some Reebok/Les Mills capris to wear and they are awesome. I want more! There is a whole line for all of the programs. I haven’t bought anything yet, but am going to. Maybe even some shoes.

When can we see you being interviewed?

Thanks for the tips on the gear.

    Best,
    Ashley

Love this post, Julie. I work in a pretty casual office — not so casual that I feel comfortable wearing bright running shoes, but certainly casual enough that I never need to wear flats, heels, etc. It can be tough to find shoes that fit that middle ground and are comfortable, and it looks like these Reeboks fit that bill! I’ll have to keep them in mind the next time I’m in the market for new shoes.
