Sadie Turns Four

January 20, 2012 by Julie 119 Comments

We tried to crate-train you, but your adorable puppy eyes and pitiful whimpers turned our hearts to mush.

crate training

We tried to tire you out by taking you with us on the long runs of our half marathon training plan. While we wanted to pass out on the couch when we arrived home, you wanted to play fetch. You are immortal.

child's play

We tried to never give you people food. Your sorrowful eyes made us slowly give in, first trying to trick you into thinking people food was gross by giving you a piece of broccoli. Of course you loved it.

sadie love

We thought adding a dog into our lives wouldn’t be that big of a change. Then you decided it was your mission in life to make us pay attention to you at all times. So now we mess with you whenever possible. (I’m pretty sure you love it.)

freaks

We tried to teach you how to fake die upon hearing the word “BANG.” It took you 10 “BANGS” to actually “die,” which seemed a little too slow and gruesome. The trick was abandoned indefinitely.

dog hates trick

We tried to remember to keep up with the training assignments we were given during puppy training class. We forgot nearly every week and you were fortunately smart enough to learn a trick in the five minutes before class began. Except for “BANG.” And heel.

wise dog

We tried not to turn into dog-obsessed crazies, but it happened. We fell in love.

Aw, Happy Birthday Sadie! I’m dog-obsessed too! I adopted my pug so we celebrate his birthday on his adoption day since we don’t know his real birthday! PS – My parents are picking up their new boxer puppy tonight… just another addition to our little herd of dogs! 🙂

Is Sadie getting a special treat for her birthday?

Happy Birthday Sadie!!! What a special day!

I acquired a 6 month old stray dog almost 7years ago (now the love of my life) who had too much time on her hands, so I decided to take her running with me to “wear her out”. Well, ultimately what I got was a very fit endurance athlete. Her favorite post-run activity is fetching too! They don’t get the winding down and stretching thing do they?

Too funny about the “bang” trick. That is the one thing that I wanted to teach my dog…..never happened. He doesn’t like to listen.

    Aw, what a cute post!
I taught our chocolate lab BANG, and when she learned that she gets a treat after she rolls over dead, she’s decided that at the command BANG! she will quickly roll over and play dead and then jump right back up so she can get her treat. I guess dogs miraculously survive gun shot wounds!

Happy Birthday Sadie! Julie- I recently got a french bulldog who is 5 months now… and recently I feel like she is completely ruling my life. (Of course I knew it would be a big responsibility) But even things like watching a movie or painting my nails have become impossible. I’m getting so frustrated and I love her to death but I’m starting to be at my wits end. I have heard she will calm down once she is “fixed” … was that true for you? have you ever felt like this?
