Slimer

June 1, 2010 by Julie 31 Comments

Though delicious, green monster smoothies do not look appetizing. Not even a little bit.

To be honest, they remind me a bit of Slimer from Ghost Busters…

Slimer

Or Gak (remember that goopy stuff used to slime people on Nickelodeon?)…

Slimed!

As ugly as they are, green monsters sure do taste G-O-O-D.

I had one of these heinously delicious smoothies for breakfast and now feel awake and aliiiive.

I'm Ugly, But Tasty!

I swear there’s something about a green monster that makes me feel rejuvenated.

Triple G: Goopy Green Goodness

Sluuuurp

Stealing Ryan's Cup for My Smoothie

My green monster contained:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • Two large handfuls fresh spinach
  • 1 scoop All the Whey chocolate peanut butter cup protein powder
  • 1 tbsp. cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp. Bob’s Red Mill xanthan gum
  • 4 ice cubes
  • Ice cold water

Workout

I downed this smoothie following a 5 mile run with Sadie this morning. I think our run made me extra hungry because after a quick shower, I enjoyed a small second *much prettier* breakfast.

Second Breakfast

For breakfast number two, I topped a cup of Dannon Greek yogurt with fresh raspberries and blueberries.

Pretty Berries

Fresh Berries + Greek Yogurt

I think berries are the most beautiful food on the planet. Their vibrant colors, interesting shapes and juicy appearance make them oh-so-attractive. (I’m alsoloving that berries are on sale right now!)

Sometimes one breakfast just ain’t enough! 😉

Question of the Day

What food do you love that’s completely unattractive?

I think my plate on Thanksgiving is perhaps the ugliest sight in the world. I love to stir everything together – the turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, peas and stuffing – until my plate basically looks like vomit. It’s so good, but looks so gross.

Ha I am right there with you on the Thanksgiving plate. So ugly! And, my husband does that with most meals – just throws everything together.

I agree berries are beautiful and tasty! I love summer b/c all the fruit tastes amazing.

But on the otherhand, tasty foods can look unattractive too 🙂 I think my favorite food that looks nasty but so good is shepards pie. It sounds so nasty too, but so good!

I love green monster, but always seem to get weird looks when I drink them ;).

I am a picky eater so sometimes weird-looking things scare me off. I should work on that.

My protein pancakes are the pancake version of your green monster. They contain spinach which is definitely tasteless but the green hue of a pancake is a little disturbing.

And then there’s the time when the green monster comes out in all sorts of unsightly shades of green.

Anytime you make a stew or a soup, someone’s gonna raise an eyebrow.

Ha – I started adding spinach to our shakes in the morning. At first I started on the light side so my husband wouldn’t know and then when I was sure it hadn’t changed the taste I let him in on the secret and started adding more and more. Ours are pretty green now 🙂

Green monsters are the BEST 😀 I have had so many people ask me “what the heck you are drinking?!” Especially with all of the job switching- it always strikes up quite the conversation. And then they think it’s disgusting, but I just swear to them that they MUST try it before they can knock it. 😉
As for disgusting food- probably when I mix mashed potatos with peas & ground turkey & ketchup. Absolutely delightful, but rather unsightful.
Hope you have a GREAT week!!

My Thanksgiving dinner plate usually looks a little disturbing, too!
I just recently ordered the Livin’ Spoonful crackers, which the hubby tells me looks like I’m eating “sheets of bird seed” 😉

My bf looks at my morning green monster like it’s the most vile thing on the planet, but then he goes to work at Nickelodeon, so I just tell him it’s his fault cause he MUST get slimed at work and I’m just jealous. He knows they are delicious though, just won’t admit it:)
And let’s be honest, sausage links look pretty nasty but every once in a while they hit the spot!

LOL!! So lastnight i used Bob’s Red Mill xanthan gum in my shake.. And i used 1 TBSP! Instead of 1tsp.. Yeah.. It was this crazy jello thickness.. I kept thinking “How the heck does Julie do this?!?! No wonder why she eats it with a spoon” I re-read your ingredients to your shake just now.. Um.. yeah. you use just a tsp… HAHAHA!! Lesson learned!! Atleast it filled me up!
