Straight No Chaser in Sarasota

December 23, 2011 by Julie 47 Comments

I cannot get enough of a cappella music! Straight No Chaser was amazing live last night… but first we must back up to dinner!

Dinner

Ryan and I had plans to join his family for a special holiday dinner and were greeted with delicious homemade holiday drinks when we arrived.

All I know is that there was wine, some kind of alcohol and cranberry juice in there and it was delicious!

We sipped our drinks and chatted for a while until it was time to eat.

Ryan’s mom made a three-course meal and we began with wedge salads, topped with blue cheese and tomatoes.

I cleared my plate!

Plus more drinks!

Dinner was the star of the show and I had prime rib, green beans with almonds and a baked potato.

I had another half of a slice of the prime rib because I couldn’t get enough of the seasoned outside edges of the meat. So good!

Dessert came next with strawberry shortcake.

We were able to hang out for a bit longer before we had to hit the road to make it to the Straight No Chaser concert.

Straight No Chaser

Ryan and I had the pleasure of seeing Straight No Chaser in concert once before in Orlando and were so impressed by the energy they had on stage.

Ryan bought us tickets to see them again as an anniversary present for me and I’ve been anxiously waiting to see them again ever since!

The show started at 8 p.m. and lasted right around two hours. I think I had a smile on my face the entire time.

They are such captivating and enthusiastic performers!

Straight No Chaser is awesome in that they encourage you to take pictures and video, so here’s a little clip of them performing “Shout” during the first half of the show.

Even just watching that video back it’s hard for me to believe that they are only using their voices to make that music. So cool!

They performed a great mix of songs from all different decades and a plethora of Christmas music which was fun to hear as well. I highly recommend checking them out if they ever come to your town!

PS – I keep forgetting to email you about possibly doing dinner when I’m in Orlando. I have the 5th or 6th open at night to do dinner. If you could, that would be awesome. If not, no biggie!

I love groups like Straight No Chaser. We had a few acapella groups at JMU, and we loved going to their concerts. I still listen to one of the group’s CDs! So impressive.

Thank you so much for sharing that song! I knew it from Coldplay but never heard that version before. It made me look them up on youtube and I listened to a bunch of other songs. I never knew I liked a capella. I love the Christmas Can Can song..very realistic.
