Summer Berries

June 14, 2010 by Julie 35 Comments

Hooray for the sweetness of summer berries!

Blubes

Double hooray for them being on sale at the grocery store for the past month!

I’m a serious fruit fanatic and love almost every kind of fruit, but to me, berries are the best kinda fruit for mixin’.

This morning I used about 1/2 a pint of $2.50 blueberries in a yogurt bowl and topped the mixture with old fashioned oats.

Chobani Greek Yogurt + Blueberries + Oats

Come See How Good I Look!

On the side I sipped on Barnie’s French vanilla coffee, which I snagged from my gym’s free stash. Gotta make the most of that membership. 😉

Workout

I slept like a rock last night. Aside from a random dream about Hulk Hogan (what???), I slept soundly.

When my alarm went off I was dead asleep. Thank goodness Ryan goes to the gym at the same time as me in the morning, because when he gets out of bed, it motivates me to get out of bed too.

As we were walking to the gym, I knew today would be a BodyPump-kinda day. I didn’t feel like putting myself through a quality workout so I figured I’d let the instructor do it for me. 🙂 Fifty minutes later, I was happy and sweaty.

Post ‘Pump, I did 25 minutes of light cardio o n the elliptical with Oxygen magazine. (To all of you Oxygen readers out there – don’t you think the cover model looks just like Kristin Davis??)

Question of the Day

  • What is your favorite kind of berry?

In my opinion, if a strawberry is perfectly ripe and super-sweet, there’s no better berry. 😀

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I love strawberries, too! I like the taste of black/raspberries, but I hate that the seeds get stuck in my teeth.

I love strawberries! I especially love their smell.

Good job on rocking that workout this morning. I agree that on those days when I’m really not feeling it, a class is often the best option!

So jealous of your gyms free coffee. We have a neat machine that dispenses lattes and such but its just as expensive as going to Starbucks. So why not have a fresh brewed cup. Boys are such good motivation to get up and out of bed. My ex was like that for me.. He’d get up a few minutes earlier and wake me.. it was great!! Always started the morning out ON TIME!

I had a very similiar breakfast, Chobani with strawberries and pumpkin flax granola. It was a nice change from my usual oatmeal or eggs. My favorites are blackberries, strawberries and blueberries.

Strawberries absolutely. Sweet, not too tart. Amazing!

The only berry I have tried that I don’t like is blueberries. When I was a kid I was camping, sitting back snack on blueberries when I got a stung by a bee on my fingers. Totally weird, but I haven’t liked their taste since then. I’ve even tried them again (last summer) as an adult and they taste disgusting to me!

ALL berries are so good! My market just had blackberry half pints on sale 10 for $10, so of course I snagged 10 of them. Inspired by your blog, I had a barley bowl this morning with fresh raspberries. It’s a little chilly in Colorado, so I heated the barley up with some milk like you would oatmeal, then topped it with the tasty raspberries. Thanks!

Love the summer berries. My fridge is fully stocked with just about every kind at the moment! 🙂

It’s always nice to have a good motivator to workout. My hubby always encourages me to lift because he knows how much I don’t like to do it. It’s so much easier to go to the gym when I know he is going too!

I think my favorite would have to be blackberries, but I haven’t gotten my hands on any yet this summer.

I could sure use a man to motivate me to get up and go workout in the mornings…

Raspberries!!!! They go with everything and I mean EVERYTHING. Since you love peanut butter, might I suggest celery with peanut butter and raspberries?!?! Amazing flavor and a favorite protein snack of mine.
