The Food List Challenge

April 9, 2012 by Julie 88 Comments

I am so sleepy today! I feel like I caught myself in a stare zoning out at my computer multiple times today.

An early bed time is clearly in order.

Did today feel like one giant blur to anyone else?

Dinner

Since I was feeling quite sleepy this afternoon, I wanted to make something easy and comforting for dinner and turned to my favorite BBQ meatloaf recipe.

I ate two slices of the meatloaf with a sweet potato and enjoyed every bite!

It would take an awful lot to get me to try squirrel, snake or crickets. Yikes!

Boo – being vegetarian excludes me from a lot of those options! I have tried the majority of the non-vegetarian ones though. (Although I did sample alligator in my pre-veg days!) I’d love to see a health food 100 with crazy things like chia, kombu, etc…

I could NEVER eat squirrel….eww! They are essentially like rats with furrier tails, and I don’t think I could choke down even a bite unless I was starving in the wild, at which point the rules change 🙂

Actually, I’m not that adventurous in general when it comes to meat. I’d rather eat a strange plant any day!

    BBQ crockpot squirrel.

Also, a restaurant here in DC makes grasshopper tacos, crickets are probably pretty similar.

You need to try chicken tikka masala IMMEDIATELY. You would love it. Go on Yelp to find a decent Indian restaurant to try it first to see if you like it, and after that I suggest making it. It’s so easy and so good. It’s definitely part of my regular food rotation.

Indian is delicious, but sort of intimidating to get into at first. Chicken tikka masala is one of the “gateway” dishes. Also, Indian buffet is a great way to sample a ton of different dishes to see which one you like. I’m such an Indian food lover these days (can you tell?)

I wouldn’t try snake if ya gave me a check for a million! Well… maybe 🙂 Since I have an Indian background I have Tikka Masala, Paneer and so forth regularly. In fact, I had chicken tikka today with naan. Paneer is basically a curry with pieces of “cheese” that isn’t real cheese but it’s SO good! Try it sometime!

If this food list was a test, I would fail horribly! I’ve only tried probably 17 of them. However, the one food I’ve had that I’d say 90% of people haven’t is squirrel!!! My dad tricked me when I was about 7. I still get sick thinking about it!!! I will never try snake, kangaroo, crickets, or alligator..and lots more on that list. I’m not a real foiodie I guess. However, you rock! I wish I was as adventurous as you. Now, go find those few things that left so you can score a 100! Ill live/ eat adventureously through you!! 🙂
