The Food List Challenge

I am so sleepy today! I feel like I caught myself in a stare zoning out at my computer multiple times today.

An early bed time is clearly in order.

Did today feel like one giant blur to anyone else?

Dinner

Since I was feeling quite sleepy this afternoon, I wanted to make something easy and comforting for dinner and turned to my favorite BBQ meatloaf recipe.

I ate two slices of the meatloaf with a sweet potato and enjoyed every bite!

The Food List Challenge

Have you guys heard of The Food List Challenge? I noticed the challenge popping up all over Facebook and was immediately intrigued.

The challenge states: “Are you a foodie? Prove it!” and lists 100 different foods that Facebook users then mark as a food they’ve have or haven’t tried.

I thought it might be a fun thing to feature on the blog!

I highlighted the foods I have tried below. I haven’t heard of a handful of the foods listed and a few others simply give me the heebie jeebies!

It would take an awful lot to get me to try squirrel, snake or crickets. Yikes!

    i can’t believe you have never had a frito pie!!!! you have had shark before but not frito pie?!?!? hahah that’s crazy to me. Frito pies are definitely not the healthiest option, but they are super tasty!

    My mom is from Poland so Borscht is a staple at my house for most holidays! I’ve also TRIED head cheese once and did not have a taste for it at all. Gelatinous circles of meat are definitely something that would take a while to get used to! For some reason, out of all the crazy items KANGAROO was the one that stuck out at me the most. I know that we eat all different kinds of animals…but kangaroos just don’t seem right to eat! I just picture them as bouncy fun animals that are simply too cute to eat!

    #30– Durian– is a fruit that I tried for the first time in China. It is the UGLIEST thing and STINKS soooo bad! I was not a fan!

    The weirdest thing i’ve ever had is Blood Sausage. It’s actually really good!

    I’m from Ireland so Black pudding is a staple of a good fry up for breakfast. I was a vegetarian for 10 years, until last november so I completely understand the aversion to the blood part. But, is that really the worst part of the pig to eat? Think of the stuff they put in sausages! A good pudding should be coarse with oats too.

    A lassi is an indian yougurt smoothie drink. Delicious! they cool down your tounge after the spices of a curry.
    You have a few indian dishes left you could have an indian night!

    Oxtail soup too is another staple. Although mostly just the packet of campbells. Again though, it’s delicious!

    Rabbit stew is actually very common and almost ‘mainstream’ in England, incidentally.

    Given your vendetta against squirrels, I am very surprised that you haven’t take the chance to eat one as a means of getting your own back 😉

      The most unusual for me was eel. It was soft and disgusting. There is no way ever, ever, EVER that I would try head cheese. I wanna to hurl just thinking about it.

    I’ve tried 84 things off that list!!!

    I’m always open to try new things, but I will NEVER EVER try balut. (google it if you need to). Disgusting.

    Definitely try chile relleno and the tomyum soup. Very good foods that I noticed you haven’t hit yet 🙂

    It’s not weird in the Eastern Asian world, but fermented squid guts are probably the oddest item ever eaten by me. That and horse meat (in France).

    The item that I would never touch/go near would be balut.

    Great post!

    I can’t believe you’ve never tried Chile Rellenos! They are one of my all time favorite dishes. (My mom’s Mexican so I might be slighly biased haha!) Also, Chicken Tikka Masala is also very good (although I’ve only tried the tofu version of it)

    And I agree with you 100%….squirrel, snake or crickets are definitely a no way for me!

    when you come to visit us in the CDNY [see what I did there?] I will take you to this amazing Italian Family resteraunt called Augies. THE BEST ZUCCHINI FLOWERS EVER. They are right from the chef’s garden – picked and brought in and stuffed with cheese and put on a bed of arugla with marinara and they are DELIGHTFUL. One of my favorite meals in the area. FOR SURE.

    My fiance’s father came in to town from Germany and really wanted to go hunting. He caught a deer and some rabbits, but he also caught a squirrel. He decided to grill it and challenged me to eat a squirrel leg. Since I was trying to impress him and all (it was only the second time we’d met), I really did eat it! I felt like Robin Hood!

    It sounds cliche, but it really did taste like dark meat chicken! But now I just cant look at squirrels the same way.

    I grew up in Malaysia and Durian is the national fruit there. They make ice cream, candy, bread, anything you can think of with durian. It smells like old onions, eggs, vomit, and anything else you think might smell bad. It is actually banned in any building, or enclosed area due to the smell. I love the taste but it is definitely acquired! My parents hate it but I guess since I was little when we got there I learned to love it. The is actually the one food that Andrew zimmErn (bizarre food guy) can’t eat! You have to try it! It is hard to find in the states but I think it is in big cities like NYC and San Fran!

    I have had Rabbit and Rattle Snake, both delicious!!! I think you would be surprised, meat is meat with the right seasonings!
