Things I’m Loving Friday #167

December 30, 2016 by Julie 24 Comments

Good morning! And Happy Last Friday of 2016 to you! Any fun plans for New Years’ Eve out there? I’ve never really been a huge NYE person and prefer to do something low key with friends as opposed to navigating a crazy night out and thankfully our plans this year are right up my alley! We’ll be heading to a friend’s house with the little ones for a fun celebration and since kiddos will be in tow, the chances of any of us making it to midnight are basically zero. I’m looking forward to a fun party followed by ringing in 2017 on the couch with Ryan… Or, let’s be real, sleeping my way into the new year. (<— Perfection.)

But before I get too ahead of myself, I want to take a moment to share my final Things I’m Loving Friday post of the year with you guys. Below you will find a short compilation of a few things that are making me smile this week. As always, I encourage you to join in the fun in the comments section of this post!

Happy New Year, my friends!!!

Things I’m Loving Friday

  • Comfy + Casual Cut Out Shoulder Top

Julie Chase 17 months

I bought the above cut-out-shoulder top on sale through Zulily in a deep teal and charcoal gray color and I’m so, so glad I ordered two because I have been living in these tops when I’m looking for something comfy and casual but a little more put-together looking than a hoodie and leggings. It’s only $24.99 and when I went to see if it’s still on Zulily to mention in this post, I ended up buying a third one in a deep purple/wine color. Ah! Zulily can be a little overwhelming (so many sales!) but you can find the tops by searching for the brand Love Kuza. I ordered a size up because I wanted a longer length and more relaxed fit and have been really happy with this top!

  • Sleepy Sadie

Sleepy Sadie

Christmas wore Sadie out and that is saying something since – even at nearly nine years old – she is a bundle of constant energy. There’s something I absolutely love about our sweet sleepy dog when she’s absolutely exhausted and cuddling up with Sadie when she’s tired is just the best!

  • Stocking Stuffers

stocking stuffers

As I was unpacking yesterday (yes, I’ve been majorly procrastinating getting my life back together after holiday travel) I started to sort through some of my Christmas gifts and realized that, yet again, the incredibly thoughtful stocking stuffers I received from Ryan and my family (and Santa!) were some of my favorite surprises this year. You can never go wrong with travel-size beauty favorites and comfy socks!

  • Grapefruit

Grapefruit

My dad eats grapefruit with his breakfast every morning and during our stay at my parents’ place over the holidays, I found myself enjoying the juicy fruit almost every day as well. I’ve kept up with my grapefruit love affair since we arrived home and cannot seem to get enough of the sweet and tart and oh-so-refreshing citrus fruit!

  • Once Again Organic Almond Butter

Once Again Almond Butter

If you love using almond butter in your smoothies or recipes, this almond butter is fantastic! The only ingredient in the butter is organic almonds and the flavor is perfectly toasted, simple and creamy. It’s a little runnier than the kind of almond butter I prefer to use on sandwiches but it’s perfect for dipping (I love it with pear slices!), smoothies and making various savory sauces.

I love grapefruit too! So refreshing. Something that’s really good to do with grapefruit is to cut the sections of grapefruit into bite sized pieces, do the same with an orange and mix them together. It’s a super flavorful, yummy and easy citrus “salad.”

Great post!! I always forget about grapefruit – I love it, too!

One thing I’m loving this week is Green Smoothies! I’ve been making them for breakfast for my girls and I – about a cup of OJ, pineapple chunks, a banana, a ton of spinach leaves, and a handful of ice! Yummm!!

Hope you have a great weekend!

    Hi Julie!
Great post as always! I love your blog 🙂
I have been eyeing the Roolee Moto Leggings for months now. I noticed that Roolee has free shipping until the end of the year and that they restocked a lot of the sizes and colors, so I think that I may go for it! I am wondering which colors you have and love? I am having the hardest time picking from all the amazing colors! If you have the black, are the “distressed” at all? It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but they seem like they may be and I am not sure!
Also, I am pregnant now and was wondering if you think that these pants would be good postpartum, as I lose the baby weight/before I fit back into my pre-pregnancy pants.
Thank you so much!!! & Happy Friday! 🙂

My favorite is the olive color (I feel like they go well with black and brown) and YES they’re wonderful post-partum thanks to the stretchy waistband (you just might wanna size up)! 🙂 Also, yes, I do have them in back and think they have a little bit of a worn/distressed look. 🙂

I bought the olive (on your recommendation) and sized up one. Also – I’m 6 months pregnant and they still work 🙂 Stretchy waistbands are pretty much all I can do right now.

Stocking stuffers are my favorite part of Christmas presents! And it literally took me an entire day to get unpacking, clean up the house, and do the laundry from when we got back from our holiday trip. Happy New Year!

I’m looking forward to a low-key New Year’s Eve as well! I’m going to Northern Michigan with my parents’ family friends and a couple of their kids. And with a possible snowboarding exception, I’ll be staying inside 🙂

I love grapefruit too, but always forget to buy it! I am loving having a slow week at home. I’m totally with you.. I prefer a more low key NYE too… I am hoping to ring in the new year in my sleep too. 🙂

Your top is such a pretty shade of blue. I can see why you liked it so much. And Zulily can be a black hole for me sometimes. There’s so much cute stuff at great prices.

I’m like you, I don’t like crazy huge celebrations on New Year’s. I’d much rather be with a few friends for a low key night. Last year I spent it with my boyfriend, and we were treated to three sets of fireworks thanks to being at his condo downtown. I’m still not sure what I’m doing this year.

That almond butter is so good! I ordered a case of it off Amazon a few years ago and still remember how good it was (despite eating lots of brands in between then and now). I’m loving how slow and relaxing this week as been. After lots of holiday festivities, it’s felt so nice to relax this week with no commitments. Hope you guys have a great NYE! I think yours sounds perfect. <3

Yes, I always get obsessed with grapefruit all winter long. It’s also really good baked in the oven with some cinnamon and maple syrup drizzled on it!
This week I’ve just been loving so much relaxing time and extra time off from work to be with my husband and not be constantly staring at the computer screen!
    Happy New Year! 😀

Happy almost-New Year! I hope your 2017 is wonderful (hoping this for everyone!)

My mom used to be a nurse, and always said this about grapefruit, “enjoy it! But be mindful any time you’re on medication.” Grapefruit is the number one food that messes with medicine. But enjoy it! I think Trader Joe’s has a grapefruit juice that people LOVE! So check it out!

Thanks for the great post as always! I love the way you photographed your stocking stuffers on the floor, btw! I’m trying to get a pic of a bunch of stuff, and forgot I could always use the floor as a backdrop!
