Things I’m Loving Friday #52

September 26, 2014 by Julie 83 Comments

Good morning and happy, happy Friday to you!! I hope your weekend plans are the perfect combination of relaxing and fun. With my father-in-law in town, Ryan and I are hoping to grab dinner at a local restaurant in the city at some point and make our way to the mountains for a bit of hiking. It should be a busy weekend but a fun one since we’re hoping to pack it with some of our favorite activities.

But now it’s time for Things I’m Loving Friday when we all chat about things that are making us smile this week. As always, please feel free to leave a comment and let all of us know what you’re loving most this week!

Things I’m Loving Friday

  • My First Coaching Experience with Girls on Track

girls on track

I was in charge of yesterday’s Girls on Track practice and had the most incredible time leading the girls through a lesson. I was shocked at how well they listened and how much fun we all had in the process! The girls participated and were more open to discussing the topic at hand which was such a relief and also a wonderful feeling. We discussed how it feels to live “in the girl box,” a place where girls and women go when they’re feeling self-conscious, jealous and unable to truly be themselves versus living “out of the girl box” where we go when we’re feeling confident, cared about, secure and comfortable being ourselves. I was thrilled with how open everyone was and left feeling so excited about the season ahead.

  • Venmo

venmo

This app is really popular with tons of people but I always run into people who have never heard of it before, so I figured it was worth sharing. Venmo is a super simple way to securely transfer money to people you know. It allows you to pay anyone instantly using money you have in Venmo or you can also link a bank account or debit card to Venmo in seconds. My girlfriends and I use it to send each other money for stuff all the time (lately it’s been bachelorette party and wedding-related expenses!) but it’s also an easy way to split up the bill at a restaurant without asking a waiter or waitress to bring separate checks for everyone at the table. You can leave a note with your payment to let the person you’re paying know what the money you’re sending them is for or you can leave emoji-only notes like I apparently do… (see above). I highly recommend it.

  • Slipper Season

Gold Slippers

With temperatures in the upper 50s this week, I decided that busting out a comfy pair of slippers was 100 percent warranted. There’s not too much I love more than feeling warm and cozy in comfortable pajamas and soft, fuzzy slippers! These gold slippers were an impulse buy around the holiday season last year. Love them! (Tip for those who can’t resist these sparkly slippers like me:  Definitely order a whole size up from your normal size. They run quite small!)

  • Sadie’s Ridiculousness

photo 1

Ryan and I have become almost immune to Sadie’s crazy antics. As we were chatting on the couch with my father-in-law last night, I burst out laughing when it finally registered how ridiculous our dog can be… All 38-pounds of her was curled up on Ryan’s chest as though she was the size of a chihuahua. Of course Ryan would never make her move because that bundle of fun has both of us totally wrapped around her paw. Plus, if you try to move her she groans and sighs and acts like getting up is the most laborious task ever.

  • Tootsie Roll Pops

Tootsie Roll Pops

For years this lovely little lollipop hasn’t been in my life, but I picked one up at a gas station during our road trip to Orlando the other weekend and felt like I rediscovered the simple glory of the Tootsie Roll Pop. I’ve since purchased a small bag and have been eating one when I find myself craving something sweet after dinner and don’t want a larger dessert. Random but also rather tasty!

  • Cute and Funny Animal Links

Tootsie roll pops can save you from a bigger sugar no-no, love the cherry ones – only the cherry ones. I need to stock up before a road trip I have coming up in another week, lol!

I need some comfy slippers in my life!! What I’m loving this week was a huge impulse decision I made! Normally a decision this big would take me a few weeks to think over, but in all of 2 hours – I decided this was happening! My best, best friend from college sent me a text this week asking if I wanted to go on a 9 day trip with her to Italy (we had talked about this in May) and without much though, but consulting my boyfriend first, we are going!!! I am so, so stoked! Not just because it is my first European trip, but I’m still riding the impulse high!!

Now, I just need to get a new passport since I lost mine a year ago… Good things are happening though and I’m so excited! We have lots of trips planned this year and though they get a bit pricey, I think the memories are well worth it!! 🙂

Love Sadie! I have puppy fever right now and really want to get a dog…but still trying to wait until I get a place with a yard :-/ it’ll probably be a while.

A group of us are doing the ROC Race tomorrow in Austin – it’s a 5K obstacle course with obstacles very similar to the show Wipeout. I’m so excited!

I’m also excited for the Baylor game tomorrow 🙂

I have wanted to get involved with something like Girls on the Run for some time now. Reading about your experience has inspired me to email my local organization to see if they are currently taking volunteers.

It has been rainy and cooler this week. I have also busted out my slippers and wore boots for the first time since spring. That first day in boots always feels a little weird, but it was a reminder of how much I love this time of year.

Love that you are coaching the girls. I have just started a project where I will send an uplifting hand written letter and mail it to anyone who is needing a lift or cheering up. Just have to tell me a small blurb on what you need some inspiration or encouragement on and I’ll send you a letter. Have sent 5 now (some to people I know, some total strangers) and I LOVE it. Someone wrote me one back and it was so beautiful and she doesn’t know me at all!

Need to spread kindness, even to strangers.

Ha, I can relate to the dramatic dog antics. I swear Roadie and Sadie are related on some kind of level. The best is when new people come over. He’s all protective at first, but once he knows they’re in with us, it’s every lap for themselves. He will sit on anyone and curl up in a spot where there is zero space like he’s a cat. It’s hilarious and I picture Sadie doing the exact same thing. Have a great weekend with the fam! xo

Something I am LOVING today is the beautiful fall weather we’re having in west Michigan this week. Seriously – it’s 80 degrees (without humidity) and bluebird skies! Knowing that winters are brutal here, everyone is happy and soaking every ounce of this up. The hubs and I are planning to puppy sit tomorrow, so we’re thinking dog beach and kayaking to see the fall colors and the salmon running! Great weekends = LOVE IT!

Venmo is the jam! I am going to institute emoji-only captions immediately, I always get weird about what I write in there and an emoji is the perfect way around that.

Also, I think my dog must be part Vizsla because she does all the same things that Sadie does- needs attention constantly, wants to have physical contact with people constantly, and she groans if you make her get off the couch like her life is sooooo difficult and I am the absolute worst for making her sleep in her bed.
