This or That?

September 8, 2012 by Julie 66 Comments

If you’ve been reading this blog for more than a month, you’ve likely picked up on my love for surveys. I think they’re so much fun to read when other bloggers post them because I always love learning more about bloggers and readers through the comments on the survey posts.

The “This or That?” survey first popped up on Paige’s blog and I thought it was a fun one so I figured I would share it with you guys today. Please feel free to play along in the comments section!

This or That?

  • Run or Work Out in the Heat and Humidity or the Freezing Cold?

Freezing cold. After running the Women’s Half Marathon in intense heat last year, I’d much rather brave the cold! That race took it all out of me. Phew!

I think Sadie picks the heat.

  • Have Washboard Abs or Flat Abs?

Flat abs.

  • Dr. Oz or The Doctors?

The Doctors. I had the chance to interview Dr. Travis Stork for the blog before and he was such a nice guy. Big fan!

  • Cardio or Strength Workouts?

Both in the form of circuit workouts! My all-time favorite.

  • Cravings: Protein or Carbs?

Carbs. I’m pretty sure most of my food cravings revolve around sugar.

  • Jillian Michaels or Bob Harper?

Bob! I respond a lot better to positive encouragement rather than yelling. I’ve heard Jillian’s workout DVDs are awesome though and would love to give them a try since she can’t scream in my face from the TV.

  • Frozen Yogurt or Ice Cream?

Frozen yogurt. I’ve always preferred soft serve, so when frozen yogurt chains started to pop up everywhere, I was in heaven.

  • Strength Training Upper Body or Lower Body?

Upper. Shoulders are my favorite.

  • Protein Powder or Food with Protein?

Food with protein, though I love a good protein smoothie.

  • Lunges or Squats?

They both suck. Smile

  • Sweet or Salty?

Sweet x 10,000.

  • Workout Attire: Cute or Comfy?

Both, but functionality reigns supreme. After buying a pair of workout capris that slid down every time I started running, workout wear that does its job and stays put is the most important.

  • Body Pump or Heavy Lifting?

BodyPump! My beloved. Oh how I miss you. Come to Ocala, please!

  • Yoga or Pilates?

I haven’t practiced Pilates enough to really answer this properly and I have a feeling Pilates and I could be buddies. I guess I have to go with yoga as a default.

  • Favorite Fitness Brand?

I typically buy whatever apparel is on sale, brightly colored and cute. Lately I am loving my Reebok gear!

reebok blue long tank

The extra-long length of their seamless long bra top is ideal for my long torso!

  • Running: Treadmill or Outdoors?

Outside. I’m still not sure how I managed to train for my first half marathon solely on a treadmill.

  • Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s?

Sadly I’ve never lived within driving distance of Trader’s Joes, so it doesn’t get a fair shot. Whole Foods it is.

  • Summer or Winter Olympics?

Summer. Diving, gymnastics, swimming, track and field… I love it all!

  • Exercises Classes or Exercise Videos?

Classes. The energy of other class participants pumps me up! You know I’m a fan of Jazzercise!

  • Steamed veggies or roasted veggies?

Roasted, without a doubt.

Questions of the Day

You tell me…

  • Run or Work Out in the Heat and Humidity or the Freezing Cold?
  • Strength or Cardio?
  • Jillian Michaels or Bob Harper?
  • Sweet or Salty?
  • Exercise Classes or Exercise Videos?

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Hi Julie! I stumbled onto your site a few weeks ago, and want you to know how much I enjoy reading your posts (especially when Sadie makes a cameo). I recently started my own blog (it’s “new construction” phase), and you have definitely been an inspiration, so thank you!

    My survey answers are:

Hands down – I’m a cold weather lover. The heat and humidity really take a toll on me, and it’s even harder to breathe. I still endure those 90+ temps, but it’s not without a little whining.

I definitely prefer cardio, but always work lunges and squats in several times a week – they really DO help strengthen my legs. But yes…they suck.

I’d go with Jillian because we have very similar mindsets when it comes to health and fitness, and I don’t know who Bob Harper is. 😉

    Definitely a sweet tooth.

DVDs. When I did Insanity, I was very glad there was no one around to hear me. 😉

Cold, it is way too hot where I live.
    Cardio
Bob Harper-yelling doesn’t work for me, Jillian would probably make me cry.
Depends on my mood but salty generally
    Classes!

Love these kind of surveys! They never get old. I remember when I was in high school, my friends and I would do this all the time!
    My answers would be –
    – Heat and humidity (simply because I’m ALWAYS cold!)
    – My answer would be the same as yours – both, in circuits!
    – I love Bob, but Jillian’s videos are pretty good. She doesn’t yell too much in those.
    – Hard one! I tend to flip flop between craving chips and cookies.
    – Classes! I miss the gym. 🙁

I’m such a sucker for surveys too!
    1. Most definitely freezing cold. I will pile on the layers of spandex, with gloves and a hat rather than run in the heat!
    2. Oh, hard to say. I will always love my running, but recently I’ve been loving free weights.
    3. Can’t really say, I haven’t really had much experience with either.
    4. Definitely sweet. I am a sucker for anything chocolate/peanut butter.
    5. Most definitely classes. I just tend to put in less effort for videos.

Freezing cold please! It warms up eventually 😉
    Both?
Hmmm, I haven’t seen much of either but the Aussie versions of those two- I’d go the girl.
I’m totally with you on the sweet!
Did I mention I was a group fitness class addict? Yup classes all the way.

Freezing cold- you can always add/remove layers.
I like mixing up strengh and cardio.
    Definitely BOB!
    Sweet all the way.
Love exercise classes- taking myself to Body Attack this afternoon after work! What a workout!

Run or Work Out in the Heat and Humidity or the Freezing Cold? Definitely in the freezing cold. I can always take layers off and running/working out will warm me up!
Strength or Cardio? A nice balance of both!
Jillian Michaels or Bob Harper? I’ve only done Jillian Michaels workouts, so I have to go with her. Sorry Bob!
Sweet or Salty? Sweet by far! I rarely crave salt.
Exercise Classes or Exercise Videos? Classes. I haven’t taken many, but I know they push me to workout harder than by myself.

    Hi Julie!

If I had a choice to workout in any of those conditions I’d prefer heat, only so that I can sweat an extra amount! : )
I absolutely prefer strength training. If I could just lift weights and get the cardio doing that, I’d be a happy camper. I love both Jillian and Bob. I have both of their DVD’s so I can’t choose, they both have great personalities in my opinion. Sweet! I love cookies and gummi bears. Yum! And last but not least, exercise videos. I’m not really into group classes like I use to be and so when I’m feeling blah about the gym, I very much enjoy pulling out a great workout DVD. 🙂
