Festive Oats

December 4, 2013 by Julie 68 Comments

Good morning, my friends!

I am feeling quite rested today because Ryan and I opted to sleep in. I had to work late and didn’t get home until close to 10 p.m. It’s always hard for me to unwind and fall right asleep when I get home from work at night, so Ryan and I hung out for a bit and changed the alarm to 6:45 a.m. instead of 5 a.m.

That extra sleep time made a big difference!

It also meant I missed my morning workout, but I’m planning to sneak one in late this morning before work again. I haven’t taken my favorite boot camp class in a while, so I’m thinking that may have to happen!

Breakfast

Breakfast this morning was quite festive.

eggnog overnight oats

Eggnog overnight oats!

As much as I love eggnog, I have a hard time drinking more than a small glass of it. I really enjoy the flavor, but too much of it makes me feel a little sick, so I prefer incorporating it into other dishes during the holiday season rather than guzzling it on its own.

If you’re the same way, here are a few eggnog dishes that I bookmarked to make at some point this year:

  • Cinnamon Eggnog Rolls <— Oh my gosh, these look amazing. I think they may have to happen on Christmas morning!
  • Eggnog Snickerdoodles
  • Eggnog Breakfast Crumble Crunch Cake
  • Peppermint Eggnog Milkshake

Yum!

I honestly don’t know if I’ve ever actually had a glass of egg nog. I know I’ve had a lot of egg nog flavored things, and love them…but dont know about the real stuff!

I love eggnog, and how it’s texture is really thick and it kind of sticks to the back of your throat…lol I think that comment just warranted a “that’s what she said.” oops 😉

I wonder how this would turn out with a coconut milk variety of eggnog (like this one: http://sodeliciousdairyfree.com/products/coconut-milk-beverages/nog). I do my best to stay away from dairy, so maybe I’ll have to give it a go. This recipe looks delicous!

I have to admit that I love eggnog, a lot. Even though it kind of upsets my stomach. So I try to limit it to small glasses with a lot of ice cubes to make it look like a bigger glass than it actually is…and maybe with a little splash of rhum and sprinkle of nutmeg if I’m feeling really festive 😉

I agree about egg nog–it is okay in stuff, but I don’t love it alone!

Have fun with your workout/bootcamp class 🙂

Hmmm never actually DRANK eggnog before, but I’ve tried eggnog creamer before! It was pretty yummy and I bet that stuff would be awesome in baked goods. Oyyyy now I’m hungry for something sweet!

I love eggnog, but only in small doses like you mentioned. One of your posts inspired me to buy some to splash into my coffee – that sounds delicious! I bet it’ll be even better if frothed up into foam first and sprinkled with a little nutmeg. Yum!

I love egg nog, but I only drink my mom’s homemade straight up – I use the store-boutgh kind in baked goods, etc.

I actually added some to my oats this morning! 🙂

I loved the regular eggnog for so long when I was little, but started to experience lactose intolerance during my teens, so I stopped. I had tried the Silk nog before, but it wasn’t the same. BUT! This year, SoDelicious came out with a coconut milk nog, and it is amazing! Has almost the same exact taste and thickness – you just get a little coconut aftertaste!
