Spring Break

March 7, 2011 by Julie 90 Comments

Spring break talk in un momento. First, lunchtime!

Monday Lunch

On the menu for today:

  • Curried cauliflower
  • Roasted carrots
  • Morningstar Farms Asian veggie patty

And a cup o’ Greek yogurt with a handful of mixed nuts went unpictured because I eat too fast for photos (and got distracted chatting away with a coworker).

The Goods

This hot lunch really hit the spot. For some reason the weather in Central Florida decided to get a lil’ chilly again and I was in the mood for a warm meal. I’m still cravin’ some warmth and am planning on making myself an afternoon cup of tea momentarily. Warm mah belly!

On to some fun…

Spring Break

My sister left on a cruise for spring break yesterday and I’m feeling a little envious. I miss spring break! Knowing that she’s in the middle of the ocean partying it up with her friends sure does make sitting in an office seem a little dull this afternoon.

At least I have the memories of several super-fun spring breaks to get me through the day!

For my first college spring break, I decided to forgo the tropics in favor of visiting my friends in Chicago. Since I moved to Florida from Illinois right before I started college, I was anxious to see my high school gang.

Fast forward a couple of years and cruisin’ was the way to go! As a Florida resident, hopping on a cruise is a really cheap way to experience several tropical destinations in one short trip.

I went on my first spring break cruise with a bunch of my sorority sisters. We had a blast taking over the ship, drinking yards at Señor Frogs and snorkeling in Cozumel.

Sorority Spring Break Cruise

Fishy Face!

The following year, Ryan actually surprised me with a spring break cruise for two for Christmas. We had a great time and planned it perfectly because our ship stopped in Mexico on the same day that two cruise ships holding two of my best friends from Indiana University also docked in Mexico! It was fate and we all had a blast!

Leaving Miami

We seriously need to implement adult spring break! Who’s in?

(P.S. The Fashion page was updated today!)

Questions of the Afternoon

  • Did you ever go anywhere fun for spring break? (Or if you’re a lucky duck and in college right now, are you going somewhere fun?)
  • If you could go on spring break right now, where would you go?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

My bf and I have gone on vacations in late-Feb/early March for the past few years because the cold is just so completely unbearable here. So in a way we’ve made adult spring breaks a tradition and something we can’t wait for every year! We just came back from Phoenix and San Diego!

What a great question!!! I have been feeling the same way. as a 27-year-old with a job I have been missing spring break big time!! I have been looking at cruises recently… just craving that time away. I think this post convinced me to go ahead and pull the trigger and book it 🙂 I am so happy to have found your blog. I love it!

My younger sister left on her SB cruise today, too! How funny would it be if they were on the same one?

Even though my fiance and I are technically still in college, we couldn’t justify a wild trip this year. Work takes precedence! Last year, for our senior year Spring Break, we rented a condo with a bunch of our friends in Key West and had the best time ever! Ah, memories…

Spring Break is a relatively new thing for me. I attended high school and college at the same private Christian instituttion (elementary school too…) and we had “Bible Conference” instead of Spring Break.

I didn’t know what to do with myself when I got a Spring Break during my masters. 😀 I thought about going some where but I was graduating in just 3 weeks so I stayed home and got homework done.

Now that I’m a teacher I get Spring Break but I didn’t go anywhere last year and not planning on going anywhere this year. I chose to save my money for summer vacations. Although when I go back to school next year I’ll have “Bible Conference” instead of Spring break again…oy vey 😀

Honestly right now I would love to go anywhere where spring actually exists…Vancouver or Victoria maybe? Someplace with a little green and flowers. Here in Edmonton Alberta it’s currently -16C…yes NEGATIVE 16C and piles of snow everywhere. Spring here really is only a few weeks around May. We don’t get any green until then. And when it does start to thaw it’s just dirty until the spring cleanup of the piles of salt and sand on the streets and sides of the road.

I’m finishing my senior year of college and have never gone anywhere cool for spring break. I’ve tried, but the plans have always fallen through due to weather, $$, or people going on vacation with their families. I wish it was that easy to go on a cruise though!!

Hawaii for sure! I know its not a typical spring break destination but I already got all the partying out of me in college, so its ok 🙂

We went to Panama City Beach last year, my last spring break as a college student, and it was sooo cold! I hate cold weather and out of the three days we were there we got to spend one day out in our swim suits. :/ And I left my book in the hotel room. Double boo.

Adult spring break?! Sounds good to me!

I stumbled upon your blog and absoloutely love it! I I just noticed you are from Palatine, Il…I’m from Lake Zurich! I currently go to Illinois State and am looking for a job in Orlando as a teacher. I know you aren’t a teacher yourself, but do you know anything about the schools? Do you like living in Orlando?

Instead of going on spring break I am sitting at the public library doing homework.boo. Thanks for the post!

Freshman spring break was spent at home (Miami) & it was super cheap since we didnt need a hotel! The past 2 have been spent in Pheonix, AZ and Washington DC, respectively and FINALLY, for my senior spring break my girls and I will be jet setting off to VEGAS tommorrow!

Julie you’re a genius. Not only do I think that adults should get spring break as well, but we should also get naps scheduled into our work day. I learned in my Spanish class that they do this in some countries & really think we should incorporate it into American culture as well.

Where would we go- to an open-air cabana in Mexico. Seriously, we’re thinking about it for our year anniversary. But spring break would be even better!

wahhhhhhh I miss having spring break SO MUCH!!! I went on a cruise for my senior yr spring break on what sounds like the same route you were on for your sorority SB cruise. I’ve also cruised around the Caribbean with my fam a few times, and even been a cruise to and through Alaska (way cool, btw!) I absolutely LOVE *everything* about cruising!!

Needless to say, I’d TOTALLY be down for a blogger cruise. I’m not even kidding. Can we make this happen?! I’d so go!!! (I’m serious!)

Adult spring breaks are a must! For us, we always gather 12+ friends for a fall vacation. Since all our friends have kids, this works well because the kids are in school during the day while we are gone and they just have to find night time sitters.
We’ve been to Jamaica, Cancun and Dominican Republic the last 3 years. It’s great to get away with friends!

I’m on spring break right now (which is a WONDERFUL invention, I have to agree) and I’m actually in Orlando for a few days!! My mom just moved here in July, so it is my first chance to come down and visit. And enjoy the sunshine of course. I go to school in the mountains of southwest Virginia, where we just had snow flurries yesterday, so this 75 degree weather is a VERY nice way to spend a week! I’m jealous that you all get to live this all the time!!

I’m a college freshman! but no spring break trips for me, unfortunately. I’m a student athlete (rowing team) which means I’m stuck up at school all break for spring training next week. I don’t mind though…a break from work is a break from work regardless. I’d love to be in Florida right now though, let’s trade places?

I’m hoping to study abroad sometime in the next few years.

I’m a senior in college this year and have been lucky enough to go on a trip for all four of my breaks! Skiing in Colorado, London to visit some friends who went abroad, then I was studying in Italy last year and did spring break in London, Dublin, and Amsterdam. This year I’m in NYC looking at grad schools with my friend from high school! Never did anything tropical though…I get enough of that living in Florida 🙂
