Wheat Berry Yogurt Bowl

June 4, 2011 by Julie 33 Comments

As I headed into the kitchen this morning to get started on breakfast, nothing was calling to me. I usually have something in mind for breakfast, but today I drew a blank.

Since I wasn’t hit with a craving, I figured I could take my time making breakfast, and cooked up a batch of wheat berries to use in a yogurt bowl.

My yogurt bowl included the wheat berries, honey Greek yogurt and thawed frozen pineapple slices.

On the side I also ate a toasted cinnamon raisin bagel thin topped with a bit of butter and jelly. The bagel thin was good, but I much prefer it in a bagelwich oozing with melted cheese!

Today I have a lot of things on my to-do list! First up is returning some of the clothes I bought for our trip to Europe but never ended up wearing. I’m also hoping to get a jump start on shopping for my sister’s birthday present!

P.S. The Fashion page was updated this morning… with a dress I think I may be donating to Goodwill. Not so in love with that one any more.

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I’m yet to try wheat berry. It looks a lot like barley which I like!

My mom makes this AWESOME wheat berry salad that includes:
Wheat berries (of course), tomatoes (or red peppers if you want it to stay crisp), mozzarella cheese cubes, feta cheese, green olives, artichoke hearts, green onions, tofu, and balsamic dressing.
You can add and subtract as you like, but I TOTALLY suggest making it sometime.
        Very yummy

That’s pretty much EXACTLY what I’ve been eating nearly every day lately! A yogurt bowl and a bagel thin or sandwich on the side. So good and FILLING.

Your breakfast looks yummy! I have been eating so much cereal the past few weeks and am getting SICK of it! I used to eat multigrain oatmeal with fruit, but it didn’t fill me up as much. I would love to try some new breakfast suggestions. Could you put together a list of your favorite breakfasts? That would rock!

I love pineapple and yogurt! Until I tried it, I couldn’t picture the flavors meshing, but once I did I couldn’t get enough! Love the hot pink napkin and bright blue plate 😉

I had no idea what I wanted this morning so I ended up mixing organic cinnasnaps and kashi cinnamon harvest with some almond milk. It was actually really good!

Actually, all I’m craving for breakfast right now is some froyo after seeing your post last week. I have a love/love relationship with it big time.

Similar to steel cut oats or barley. Bring water to a boil, throw in the wheat berries and let them simmer until they’re chewy.

Yum! This looks really good! I have breakfast like this from time to time: fruits like pineapple, strawberries, some muesli mixed with yoghurt. Fruits are delicious and fresh in the morning!
And I wanted to add, thatI looked at your rutabaga fries recipe (published something like a year ago) and loved it! The video is really nice, you should do some more, it’s interactive.

Looks delicious! I just have to comment and say that yesterday I shelled out the money to buy xanthan gum at Whole Foods. I just made a post-run smoothie with about 3/4 tsp of the powdery stuff and OMG I now know why you always have those delicious oozing smoothies on your blog. I have to give you MAJOR thanks! Keep doing what you do! You rock =D

Last night I made a bowl of Katie’s voluminous-oats-trick oats and added then added chia seeds, dried apricots, goji berries, and cashews this morning. Yum. And I never knew how much I liked cold oats!

Mmm I also threw some wheatberries in my smoothie bowl today, ‘cept i cooked em up in the slow cooker overnight! An excellent strategy for someone with a tendency to burn the bottoms of ALL MY POTS. Might throw them in a salad today too! NOM! 🙂

I looked at the photo of your yogurt bowl before I read what was in it and thought the pineapple was egg yolks, whoops! Sounds much more appetizing with pineapple 🙂
    Have a great weekend!
